Chapter 69: Chapter 69: Harassed, Xiao Chen’s Fury Demands a Thousand Cuts (1)

Called Master Li, he swiftly rotated his eyes, one hand akimbo and the other stroking his chin, as three people arrived. He immediately straightened his clothes and stepped forward to greet the new master of the manor.

When the door opened again, the butler Li, dragging his corpulent body, appeared at the entrance. No sooner had he stepped out than he saw, not far off on horseback, a graceful and beautiful young lady, dressed in a light green skirt embroidered with lilies. Under the sunlight, she appeared even more refreshingly elegant. The butler Li’s mung bean-like eyes fixed on Feng Xuxu, gleaming with a rogue light.

Feng Yi, seeing the butler Li staring brazenly at his mistress without any sense of propriety, reddened with anger and blocked Li’s view, "Are you the butler here?"

Coming back to his senses, the disgruntled butler Li still put on a welcoming smile, "Yes, I am the butler of this manor."

Feng Xuxu dismounted and handed the reins to Feng Er. She then sized up the butler Li with a cold gaze. Li, looking at the beauty before him, felt an itch in his heart. Could she be the new master?

"Butler Li, this is our young lady, and she is the master of this manor," Feng Yi said clearly, informing Li of his mistress’s position, while implicitly issuing a warning.

Upon hearing this, Li’s face broke into an even wider grin. "Miss, I am the butler here, my surname is Li, called Li San."

Feng Xuxu shot him a look of disgust, grunted in acknowledgement, and walked toward the interior of the estate.

The villagers of Li Village, upon learning that their leased land had changed ownership, were all anxious, fearing that the new landlord would raise the rent. They gathered, waiting for the new master to emerge and inquire.

The butler Li hurried after her into the yard. As Feng Xuxu walked, she observed that the manor, though it had fallen into disrepair, could still house people, but it was indeed dilapidated. There were very few people in the courtyard, with just a few women bustling about the kitchen preparing food.

"Butler Li, how many people are there on the manor, and how much land?" Feng Xuxu suddenly asked. Butler Li was taken aback and then answered promptly, "Miss, this manor encompasses a total of thirteen thousand acres, with four hundred and fifty-six laborers, plus cooks and those who tend to the animals, adding up to five hundred and three people in total."

Feng Xuxu nodded, confirming that the information matched what she had. "Take me to see the fields." 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂

Butler Li led Feng Xuxu to the fields, where the expanse of over ten thousand acres seemed boundless. Hundreds of laborers were busy at work in the fields. Feng Xuxu squatted down, grabbed a handful of soil, and crumbled it—its moisture content was adequate. Looking at the slightly yellowed soil, she concluded that it was time to fertilize.

Di An drove a carriage that seemed ordinary at first glance but was, in fact, exceedingly luxurious. The two horses under the sun shimmered with a red luster, instantly recognizable as excellent breed Red Hares to anyone with discerning eyes. The carriage was crafted from fine rosewood, exuding an air of nobility and elegance. At each of the four corners of the carriage roof hung a string of golden bells that jingled crisply with the motion of the carriage, pleasing to the ear. Flanking the carriage were two stoic guards, silent and imposing without anger.

It rumbled through the Feng Family Village, heading straight for the Mandala Villa atop the Nameless Mountain. Di An leapt down from the carriage and knocked on the grand gate, only to learn that Feng Xuxu had gone to the manor in Li Village. With a wave of his hand, Xiao Chen turned the carriage toward Li Village.

Feng Xuxu dusted off her hands and stood up, looking at Butler Li, "How much does each acre yield annually on the manor?"

Butler Li, surprised by the young girl’s expertise despite her tender age, honestly reported, "In a good year, each acre can produce more than three hundred pounds, and in a bad year, about two hundred pounds."

After hearing his response, Feng Xuxu said nothing, turned, and left the field, heading toward the manor. Butler Li rubbed his grumbling stomach, glanced at the sky, and boldly approached to ask, "Miss, it is already noon. I have had the meal prepared." Feng Xuxu turned to look at the sky, realizing it was indeed late and feeling hungry herself, she decided to stay and eat before leaving.
