Chapter 76: Twenty-Seven Minutes Is A Long Time in The Parc de Princes

["Goal! Monaco have pulled one back! Monaco have pulled one back, and now things are getting interesting. Nice bit of teamwork between Tyler Wilson and Vanderson on the right flank, and they were able to get a cross into the box. Maghnes Akliouche got the header and the rest, well, I don’t need to say anything more"]

["Very nice goal scored there by the winger, and he’s scored it at such a crucial time here for his team. There’s a little over twenty minutes left in the match where they can chase the equalizer that they’ll so desperately need, but will Paris let them"]

The sound of the fans of both teams climaxed when Monaco pulled one goal back. The travelling Monaco fans cheered their team on and were supporting them to get the equalizer, while the Paris Saint-Germain supporters let their players know that they were unhappy with the development.

Paris Saint-Germain were quick in kicking off, and then the match resumed, but from the onset it was obvious that they had changed the way they played. They were playing a little reactive at the beginning, but now they were actively attacking, in a bid to get their two-goal lead back.

Monaco didn’t just let them go through them however, they had long abandoned their pragmatic approach and were now trying their best to take the game by the reins and score the equalizer.

What started out as a boring one-sided match had now developed to be a thrilling encounter, even if it was so late in the game.

After Monaco’s goal, Paris Saint-Germain had a couple of chances to restore their two-goal cushion.

Hakimi sent a low cross into the box. It didn’t get to anyone camping in the box at first, and only became a dangerous chance when Kvicha Kvaratskhelia managed to get the loose ball from the other side of the pitch.

He drove the ball slowly, taking on and successfully getting past Vanderson before setting up a bouncing ball for Ousmane Dembele, who was just a small distance from the six-yard box.

Unfortunately for the home team, the French forward couldn’t keep his attempt under control and sent the ball flying over the post and into the stands.

Paris Saint-Germain’s second chance came just two minutes after. It was created from the right flank again, this time though it was Desire Doue who was pulling the strings.

He got the ball around the halfway line and went on a dazzling run down the flank. Successfully maneuvering the ball away from Ben Seghir and Henrique, he managed to run unhindered towards the edge of the penalty box.

He slowed down when he got to the edge of the penalty box and found himself one on one with Thilo Kehrer, who had charged out of the penalty box in an attempt to slow Desire Doue down.

Kehrer’s attempt didn’t amount to much. Instead, he just became another victim of the young winger. Desire Doue’s legs flashed over the ball, and his body orientation changed, making it seem like he was going to move wide to avoid the confrontation.

Thilo Kehrer then adjusted his body accordingly, planning to guide him away from the penalty box in response to Doue’s predicted retreat. He could only look on in surprise when Doue went in the opposite direction and cut into the penalty box.

As soon as Doue got past Kehrer, he steadied himself and let a shot loose. After taking out one of Monaco’s two center backs, he had opened up a bit of space to shoot. He wasn’t going to wait and give Mohamed Salisu enough time to close him down and allow the defenders to recover.

In the end his decision paid off. The ball left his leg in a venomous strike, curled round the frame of Mohamed Salisu, and placed itself into the top corner of the goal post, just far enough from Phillip Kohn’s outstretched hands.

["And it’s Doue with the ball down the right-hand side, and he’s going, and he’s going and he’s gone. Desire Doue is gone. He’s inside the box now and he’s one on one with Monaco center back Mohamed Salisu. It looks like he’s going to go wi- nope. He’s cut in. Desire Doue cuts in and shootssss.... GOAL! And PSG have restored their two-goal lead! Not even up to ten minutes after having their lead halved, PSG have increased the distance between them and their opposition and they are running away with this game"]

["Can we talk about Desire Doue for a second, because he’s having a great game. What a run he went on for this goal just now, not up to ten wingers in the world can replicate what he just did now. The quality of the run and then the composure to just slot the ball into the top corner, what a goal that was? What a goal indeed"]

Tyler stood a small distance away from the penalty box and watched as Desire Doue and a few Paris Saint-Germain players next to him took off in celebration. He licked his lips, feeling a little sour taste of the sweat on his face, and then turned around to walk towards the halfway line.

At that moment, he felt defeated.

He had accepted defeat. Monaco had lost, and there was nothing that he could do about it. In fact, there was nothing that anyone on the team could do about it.

"Damnit," Tyler muttered under his breath again. He used his sleeve to wipe several beads of sweat off his forehead. When he looked up, he saw the Paris Saint-Germain players celebrating and clenched his fists.

Fuck it. If Monaco were going to lose then so be it.

But they won’t go down without putting up a fight.

Tyler’s glance went to Nuno Mendes, who was laughing innocently with Ousmane Dembele.

And you fucker, I promise to drop you.

Author’s Note:

Hello guys, it’s me again. And once again, I want to apologize for not updating for so long. I was swamped with exams, and after that I had to prepare for Christmas (it’s a lot of work where I’m from), but I’m back now (again), and I’m not going anywhere for the foreseeable future, so updates are going to be a lot more stable.
