Chapter 512: The rat Da Hei

Su Jing stepped outside the medical centre, the air heavy with tension. She leaned against a cool wall, shifting her weight impatiently. Inside, Lu Lu was still beside his sister, lost in turmoil. Everyone in the city believed she had fallen into this state because of the attack during the wedding. Yet few knew the truth. She had stupidly faced a beast outside the city the day before. Determined to prove her worth to Lu Lu, she fought to show she was not just a child in need of protection.

For months, Lu Lu had kept her safe, treating her as fragile and vulnerable. She felt the weight of his love but yearned to be seen as capable. Instead, she returned injured and desperate, only to collapse during the chaos of the wedding ceremony. The attack had been terrible, but it was her own ambition and misguided bravery that led to her current state.

Su Jing knew the real story but refused to share it. No, she wanted Lu Lu to think it was Xiang Yu’s fault. Let him seek revenge, let the anger grow within him. She clenched her fists, anxiety and excitement swirling inside her.

Moments later, the door opened, and Lu Lu emerged, his face shadowed by a mix of concern and fury. The moment he stepped outside, he asked, "Where is Xiang Yu?"

Su Jing immediately recognized the fire in his eyes. "Well, he is around," she began, her voice smooth but purposeful. "But you can’t fight him like this. How about challenging him in the arena? That way, your revenge will be justified."

Lu Lu paused, the idea brewing in his mind. "Set it up and let me know," he said, his voice low and steady.

A thrill shot through Su Jing. She wanted to leap with excitement but restrained herself, maintaining a calm demeanour. "I will make the arrangements," she replied coolly, hiding her enthusiasm beneath a professional facade.

As Lu Lu nodded and turned back toward the medical centre, Su Jing felt a sense of satisfaction wash over her. This was what she had wanted. Her plan was fully in motion. She glanced at the sky, plotting her next move, determined to steer the course of fate to her advantage.

It had been three days since Xiang Yu had heard anything from Han Xin, and the silence gnawed at him. With no updates forthcoming, he decided to reach out to the Divine Emperor directly.

The Emperor was usually accommodating, providing updates about Han Xin’s whereabouts and activities. However, Xiang Yu was relentless. He would ask one question, only to follow it with a barrage of others. He was given an inch and he undoubtedly took a mile.

Finally, the Divine Emperor had enough. After a final message requesting yet another update, the Emperor blocked Xiang Yu from communicating altogether. Frustrated and bored, Xiang Yu trailed behind the twins. frёeωebɳovel.com

He followed them to the medical centre eager to see what they were doing. The medical centre buzzed with activity, and he learned that the twins were experimenting with new medicines made from mutated plants. The entire process fascinated him.

"Do you two have memories of the skill?" he asked, his eyes alight with interest.

"Oh, we do," Lian replied, her enthusiasm bright. "It feels like we’ve done this our whole lives."

Mei chimed in, holding out her hand. "Master, do you want to try this?"

In her palm lay a fruit as red as cherries, its glossy skin enticing. Xiang Yu hesitated, scepticism creeping in. "What is it? What does it do?"

"Just try it!" Mei giggled, her eyes sparkling with mischief.

Though he sensed something was off, Xiang Yu played along, hoping to amuse the twins. "Do I chew it?" he asked, glancing between their eager faces.

"Yes!" Lian exclaimed, barely able to contain her excitement.

Understanding their gleeful intent, Xiang Yu took the fruit and tossed it in his mouth. The moment he did, an explosion of intense sourness invaded his mouth, sharp and biting as if it were trying to seize control of his tongue. His eyes widened in shock, an involuntary grimace twisting his face. "Ugh... sour, so sour," he gasped, overwhelmed by the taste.

Just when he was about to spit it out, Lian leaned in suddenly, her hand darting out to cover his mouth. "No, Master, you have to keep eating it!" she urged, her voice muffled but insistent. "Trust me!"

Xiang Yu stared at her, incredulity washing over him. It was hard to protest with Lian’s hand pushing against his lips, effectively silencing any complaints he might have voiced.

From the sidelines, Mei’s laughter filled the room, bright and infectious. "Hahaha! Master, you should see your face. It’s so funny!" she exclaimed, pointing at him as he scrunched his features in distaste.

Suddenly, as the initial shock of the fruit’s taste began to mellow, a curious transformation took place. The intense sourness ebbed away as swiftly as it had arrived, giving way to a sensation that was surprisingly sweet.

A warm, honeyed flavour danced across Xiang Yu’s taste buds, making his eyes widen in astonishment. He swallowed hard, the shift in flavour intensifying his curiosity.

"Hmm, interesting," he mused, his tone shifting from disdain to genuine intrigue. "What does it do?" The sweetness lingered on his tongue, and he felt something spark inside him like he had been injected with chicken blood.

Mei leaned closer, her eyes brimming with excitement. "It gives you energy and helps boost your immune system. A little magic from nature, really."

"Magic, huh?" Xiang Yu chuckled, the notion both playful and enticing. Just then, the door burst open, and they all turned to see Da Hei rushing in, a look of sheer panic plastered across his face.

"Xiang Yu!" Da Hei exclaimed, breathless. "Lu Lu is coming to challenge you in the arena!"

Xiang Yu’s brow arched in surprise. "Who?"

"Lu Lu! You should hide away until Lord Han comes back!" Da Hei hurriedly urged, glancing nervously over his shoulder as if expecting Lu Lu to crash through the door any moment.

Before Da Hei could grab him and pull him to safety, Su Jing strode into the room, flanked by a group of imposing figures. They looked ready to restrain him should Xiang Yu dare to make a run for it.

Most of the faces in the room were new, belonging to a group of men and women who were part of Lu Lu’s team that had ventured out to gather supplies for the city. A heavy tension settled over the group as they eyed Xiang Yu like he was a dead man.

"Well well well, will you look at that, it’s the rat Da Hei," one of the men sneered, a smug smile twisting his lips.
