Chapter 21: Interlude – Rias's Reflection

The cool breeze in the Gremory household's courtyard did little to calm Rias's growing sense of unease. The events in Kyoto had rattled her more than she was willing to admit, and Leon's recent absence only added to the weight pressing down on her chest.

Despite the success of their recent missions, something about him had changed. The power he unleashed during the Kyoto battle—his transformation—was unlike anything she had ever seen. It wasn't just raw strength. It was refined, otherworldly. Terrifyingly divine.

That silver-haired form, cloaked in crackling energy, had left even the most seasoned devils momentarily paralyzed. Rias included.

And now, he was gone. Vanished without a word. No explanation. No goodbye.

She stood by the window of her room, gazing at the moonlit garden, fingers tightening around the edge of her sleeve.

Where are you, Leon?

"Rias," Akeno's voice gently broke the silence as she stepped into the room. "Still no word?"

Rias shook her head, not bothering to mask the concern in her eyes.

"I can't reach him. Not through magic, not even through familiar tracking. It's like he's just... disappeared."

Akeno walked to her side, her voice calm but laced with subtle tension. "He's stronger than we realized. Much stronger."

"That's what scares me," Rias murmured.

A moment passed before she finally said the words that had been weighing on her heart.

"I know," Rias replied softly, her voice barely above a whisper. "But there's something more to it... He's becoming something else. Something I can't define—but it feels like he's evolving into a being beyond our world."

Akeno didn't respond immediately. She simply watched Rias, eyes reflecting quiet understanding.

"Even if he's walking a path none of us can follow," Akeno finally said, "maybe that path still leads back to us. To you."

Rias allowed herself a faint smile, though it didn't quite reach her eyes. "I hope you're right, Akeno. I really do."

Because if Leon was truly becoming something beyond this world...She wasn't sure whether she wanted him to return as he was—or feared what he might become.
