Chapter 1369: Let The Culprits Step Forward! (2)

Suddenly, a barrier materialised out of thin air and enveloped the falling spirit beasts, including those that had already crashed against the ground, shielding them from the pressure.

The spirit beasts grimaced in pain as they gathered themselves and rose to their feet. They looked at the barrier and sighed in relief.

Jaros, Zaelthar and the others, who had nearly plunged into the ground, steadied themselves in midair and turned to look at Orion with a complex mixture of emotions.

They realised that what was about to unfold was beyond anything they could participate in.

Without hesitation, they immediately soared into the sky and swiftly returned to the floating island. The barrier moved along with them.

Only four spirit beasts had managed to withstand the crushing wave of pressure. One of them was Kun’lin.

Kun’lin felt a sense of relief as she observed the barrier that surrounded her, then turned her gaze forward to Orion, her eyes filled with gratitude and dread. She glanced at J’garin, Iy’yra, and the few members of the White Winged Gryphon race nearby.

She didn’t know how Orion and his group could create such a powerful barrier that was strong enough to block the crushing pressure from an unknown number of formidable spirit beasts. But it made her realise this force possessed far greater depth than she had assumed.

She turned her attention to the three spirit beasts beside her. She noticed they were in the same state as she was, except for one, who remained completely calm, casually inspecting the barrier around them with curiosity in her eyes.

She was a tall woman clad in a black robe adorned with grey embellishments. Two white furry ears protruded from either side of her head, and a long tail extended from behind her waist.

As if sensing her gaze, the woman turned and met her eyes with a broad smile, revealing sharp canine teeth.

Kun’lin quickly looked away as a chill ran down her spine. She was aware that some spirit beasts had concealed their true strength even after taking the binding oath, but she had assumed their power wouldn’t be too far off from her own.

And even if it was, she believed she had enough life-saving techniques to escape danger. Yet, something told her she wouldn’t be able to activate even one of them before that woman could act.

Kun’lin immediately composed herself and exhaled slowly. She let go of her thoughts about the unknown woman. Since she had chosen to conceal her identity, Kun’lin wouldn’t pry.

J’garin and Iy’yra observed Kun’lin and the three figures and couldn’t help but marvel at their strength. While they still paled in comparison to Orion and his wives, who had faced five formidable spirit beasts alone, as fellow spirit beasts, they could only measure themselves against them.

Meanwhile, at the forefront, Orion was aware of everything happening behind him.

‘It seems that there are others who have other plans about Zymera?’ Orion thought.

He, too, was surprised by the strength the woman had displayed. But he had already anticipated that there were powerful spirit beasts hidden among the gathering.

He was also aware that others had pretended to be overwhelmed by the crushing pressure and had used the opportunity to return to the floating island, allowing them to observe the situation from a much safer location.

He couldn’t help but admit that they were truly long-lived and cunning monsters.

Suddenly, the space behind Orion tore open.

An enormous claw, covered in green scales, stretched outward toward him, attempting to grab him.

Orion’s eyes widened. In that instant, a wave of fiery, bluish-white lightning and flame surged from his body and struck the encroaching hand.

CRACCKKLEE!! BOOOMMM!!

The lightning-flame attack slammed into the claw and instantly spread along the length of the arm, searing through its defences and into the rift.

“GROOOWWLL!!”

A thunderous roar echoed from within the rift, causing the space around it to tremble and undulate. An enormous spirit beast, over 2,500 meters tall, whose entire figure was wrapped in fiery lightning and smoke, fell out of the rift and crashed onto the sunken icy plain below.

BAANNGG!!!

A great wave of ice and snow exploded into the air as the impact caused the plain to sink even deeper.

The rift behind Orion immediately sealed shut.

Throughout it all, Orion did not turn his head. The fiery, bluish-white lightning continued to flicker around his body, radiating with a blazing intensity that split outward like cracks in the air.

The atmosphere turned still.

The crushing pressure that had hung over them vanished.

All eyes turned toward the fallen spirit beast.

The only sound that could be heard was the beast’s painful, drawn-out roars, until they slowly faded into silence. Everyone focused, hoping to understand what had happened to the attacker.

As the clouds of ice began to settle, countless specks of light shimmered in the air, scattering across the surroundings. The sight made their eyes widen in shock and disbelief.

Orion watched calmly as the countless specks of light blended back into the environment, gradually restoring the destroyed icy plain to its natural form while cleansing the area of the chaotic energy left behind by their clash.

Then, slowly, the gathering lights began to spiral together, forming a vortex of spiritual energy.

The slain spirit beast had begun to slowly condense into a Spirit Well.

Orion remembered what Aerialia and the other ancient goddesses had once explained: that only Earl-ranked spirit beasts and above were capable of forming Spirit Wells upon their deaths.

These Spirit Wells not only improved the living conditions of a territory for spirit beasts, but also allowed that territory to be sustained far beyond its natural lifespan, delaying its collapse and the emergence of a new territory from its ashes.

He had sensed that the spirit beast which had just attacked him was at the Duke rank. The stronger a spirit beast was, the longer it took for a Spirit Well to form, but the more potent and lasting the result.

In this way, spirit beasts gave back to the Spirit Realm upon their death.

This phenomenon was also known as a part of the Celestial Cycle of Spirit Beasts.

With the Iyria energy already amplifying the power of his gift, Orion had merged it with the White Flame, altering the nature of his lightning into a fusion of blue-white arcs that flickered like flame yet streaked like pure lightning.

This fusion drastically enhanced the destructive force of his attacks. It granted it new attributes, like the white lightning he had gained from Zymera, which could not only stop a person’s regeneration but also be used to heal the user.

And with total mastery over his lightning, he struck the spirit beast with lightning melded with the essence of White flame, capable of reconstructing a cosmic tree and affecting even the Mysteries themselves.

Yet Orion wasn’t satisfied.

He couldn’t even be sure if the spirit beast had taken a full strike before being obliterated. His strength had been halved by the Spirit Realm’s suppression, and his anomalous nature was still being sealed.

He had no real way to measure his actual power.

Currently, within Paradise, no one could spar with him seriously, except perhaps Nazelita. But he wasn’t going to ask her yet. He was still nurturing their relationship and unsure if even a Mirror Realm could withstand a clash between a true god and a Mysteries-level being.

From J’garin, Iy’yra, Kun’lin, and the other spirit beasts watching from behind, to those observing from ahead, and the countless others monitoring the confrontation from afar, none could help but be utterly dumbfounded by the scene they had just witnessed.

One strike?

A Duke-ranked spirit beast had been killed by a single lightning strike? It was unbelievable.

And yet, no one could deny it, with the environmental changes and the unmistakable formation of a Spirit Well in plain view.

All eyes slowly turned toward Orion, now cloaked in a radiant storm of bluish-white flame-lightning. Their minds raced, trying to grasp the true extent of his strength.

Some began to wonder if he had discovered a way to bypass the Spirit Realm’s suppression on beings from the material realm?

A few wondered if Orion was a spirit beast who had disguised himself as a being from the material realm because they could sense the strange energy around him that was distinct from others. It was something new that none of them had ever sensed in their long years of living.

Suddenly, the space before Orion cracked open, and three figures stepped out. They were Celeste, Greta, and Gina.

They arrived beside Orion and halted.

“Mission accomplished. Those nuisances are all dead,” Gina said, her tone calm, with a mischievous smile spread across her lips as she amplified her voice to resonate across the surroundings.

Her words caused the surrounding spirit beasts to tremble once more.

Dead?

They looked up at the fracture in space and saw the countless specks of light that poured out from it into the surroundings.
