The table was set, and for the first time in almost half a year, I was sitting with everyone I loved.

The food smelled good—warm and rich with spices.

Dishes of all kinds were laid out on the high table and looking at them, I was sure as fuck that only grandma could have made them.

As for Pixie—

"Judge her when you start putting food on the table, brat. Focus on eating right now." Even though it seemed that Damien was lecturing me but I knew he just wanted me to dig in so he can share the taste through our mental connection.

This bastard lol—

Roasted meat, buttered vegetables, freshly baked bread, and even a sweet custard dish at the end.

It was way too much food for the four of us, surely.

"Eat," Sylvie said, pushing a bowl toward me.

I sighed, grabbing a spoon.

I wasn't particularly hungry, but seeing Pixie stuffing her face full of bread like she hadn't eaten something tasty in years made me feel like I should at least pretend to have an appetite.

"So," Venus started, swirling a glass of wine in his hand. "Now that you're finally done sulking in your room, tell me, what's next?"

I paused, my spoon floating over the bowl. "Next?"

Venus smirked. "Yeah. You've been running around doing God-knows-what.

Missions, assassinations, training in the shadows… but at least you've stopped acting like a walking corpse.

Even Sylvie here seems happy you're out and about again."

"Hmph." Sylvie rolled her eyes, as if she was still unhappy about what I did all these months back.

"Happy? That's a strong word."

Pixie, sitting beside me, pulled at my arm. "She means she's relieved you don't look like you're five seconds away from jumping off a cliff."

"Pixie!" Sylvie almost dropped her soon, but the naughty girl just tried to hide behind my arm and kept chewing.

I exhaled through my nose, trying to ignore their banter.

Totally understanding why the very person who loved me the most had become like this…I did not blame Ma.

The fact that she still did all this just made me feel better.

Having people who tried to love my flaws was pretty weird. Someone who cared enough to talk about it, even if it was in their own annoying ways.

But before I could even let myself feel warm about that, Sylvie Grandma spoke again.

"But that doesn't mean I approve of what you're doing," she said firmly, her voice dipping down a tone.

"You want to kill? Go ahead, Noah. You want to tear apart an entire city for revenge? Do it. If bloodshed is the only way you can survive in this cruel world, then survive."

I stared at Ma, shocked that she would actually try to understand me.

Her black eyes darkened. "But Noah, listen carefully," she leaned forward, placing her elbows on the high table near our kitchen. "You can slaughter a thousand men, you can burn down fortresses, you can start a war if you like… But the day I find out you've broken an innocent's heart—"

Her voice dropped into something I had never seen before, something dangerous.

"That will be the day I kill you myself."

The air in the room turned suffocating, and I could almost hear as Sylvie gulped a mouthful of water.

'This women is a heck of a showstopper–' Damien sighed, almost looking at me with pity.

Looking at Ma, I had realised, so much had changed in these few years.

Grandma no longer looked weak, her frame had grown stronger, practicing all she could these few months.

If anything, I'd heard Venus buy a Hollow for Ma since she suddenly started liking it.

'Well, that's what years of having your mana sealed and being weak does to you Noah.

If she had a hollow at that time, we all wouldn't have suffered this much and maybe she wouldn't have died at all in the Book of Sin.' Damien explained, halting my line of thoughts.

Moving my glance on the black haired oldie sitting beside Grandma, I almost laughed.

After she had regained her youth, and started looking like a 20 year old hot toy doll, Grand-dad had tried everything to not look older in comparison to her.

Damien chuckled, 'I mean…your grandma does look like a doll her her baby pink hair and that audaciously hot body.'

'Damien, manners. Do I have to remind you that you are a bodiless blob of light who's just hoarding my soul space?' I corrected this horny system, weirded out by listening to his banter.

Anyways, even though I expected such a reaction from Ma, Pixie and Grandpa hadn't seen it coming.

And the flickering candlelight only made her look more godlike in her quiet fury.

I lowkey felt my palms going sweaty. Not because of fear…but because I knew of how serious she was.

My fingers curled into fists beneath the table, feeling a pang of sadness knowing she hated how I had become.

'It's all because of that Goddess Suryi, being a chosen of a goddess of Judgement makes your head go all mushy, Noah.' The sentient system chipped in, telling how the traits of her goddess can also influence her.

But before I could react, before anyone else could speak, Venus suddenly clapped his hands together.

"Alright, alright, enough of this grim talk," he said, forcing a casual tone. "It's dinner. If you want to talk about murder, do it after dessert."

Sylvie didn't take her eyes off me, but she leaned back in her chair, waiting for a reply…maybe—

I did not know what stupidity came over me but I couldn't stop myself from saying it.

"…I promise."

'Fuck Noah you motherfucker?! Are you out of your mind??' Damien screamed.

Meanwhile, Sylvie seemed to have been caught off guard, as her eyes softened.

'Maybe…just maybe,' I thought.

'Our relations could go back to how it was in the past.'
