Chapter 28: Reunion

The next morning, Evelyn and I set off for my home. A new Chapter of this twisted game begins.

I reached my home estate, and to my surprise, everyone was waiting for me.

The moment I stepped through the gates, my mother rushed forward and hugged me tightly. Warmth flooded my chest. I didn't know why, but I felt something stir deep inside—something comforting, something I had never realized I craved.

"I'm home," I murmured, my voice almost trembling.

She held me for a moment longer before stepping back. My father was there, watching silently, his usual unreadable expression in place. Other household members stood nearby, and then—

"Liliana? Rin?" I blinked as I saw my fiancée and childhood friend standing among them.

I greeted them both, confused about why they were here. I had only been gone for a week—why did it feel like a reunion?

Then Evelyn spoke. "It wasn't a week. You were unconscious for a full month."

"A month?!" My voice came out louder than I expected. That was... unexpected.

I took a deep breath. Well, at least I was safe and sound now. I turned toward my room, ready to collapse into my bed, when I noticed someone standing off to the side.

Iris.

She was alone in the hallway, hesitant, unsure. Without thinking, I ran toward her and pulled her into a tight hug.

"You're safe," I whispered. "Are you hurt anywhere?"

She didn't answer right away, but I felt her relax slightly in my arms. Then, I glanced at Evelyn.

She was watching us, a small, knowing smile on her face. "Consider this a small gift from me. Take care of her."

I nodded. "I will. For the rest of my life."

Silence.

Everyone—my family, the knights, the servants—stared at me in complete shock. It took a few seconds for my own words to register in my mind.

Wait... did I just...?

I slowly turned back to Iris, expecting some kind of reaction—anger, embarrassment, denial. But instead, she was smiling. A soft, genuine smile.

Evelyn chuckled. "You better remember what you just said."

Then, with one last glance, she turned and left. "See you in the future... if fate allows."

I watched her go, knowing this wouldn't be the last time our paths crossed.

With that, I finally made my way to my room and collapsed onto my bed. "Ahh... home is the best."

Nyx curled up beside me, finally at ease.

Just as I was about to drift off into much-needed rest, there was a sharp knock on the door.

Before I could respond, the door burst open.

Liliana stormed in, grabbed me by the collar, and yanked me up.

"What is the meaning of all this?!"

...Yeah, Fuck.
