Chapter 103: 103:Portal

"What?"

Seraph asked in confusion while studying the gathering of blood.

"The statue is the key. It needs blood to be activated. There seems to be a passage that may somehow lead us outside or to another chamber, something about wonderland."

I briefly explained.

"But master what if the other side is more dangerous. "

Jeneviv asked softly in passing as she walked towards the corpses and activated her soul collection spell.

"Better than staying here, why don’t you bring those back to life we’ll use them as fodder they can test the way."

Kianah said while gesturing at the dead in disgust. She captured my point perfectly. I nodded in agreement.

"I was planning on doing that, I want their souls first, master surprised me when he killed them some of the souls have already ascended. I only got three."

She grumbled while shooting a playful glare towards me. I smiled.

"I want you all stay back, I’ll be the only one near the statue I’m not really sure what the reaction might be."

I said and walked into the chamber where the statue was situated. I divided the blood into two and sent one ball of blood into the statue.

Just as before, it rapidly absorbed into the statue.

Three-quarters of the statue glowed a lighter red colour but unlike the first time the colour didn’t disappear, it remained there as though waiting to be filled.

I looked up at the rose bushes on its head expecting to find blooming flowers and vibrant leaves but nothing, the plants were still withered.

I sent the remaining blood into the statue in hopes it would be enough.

After full absorption the statue shone a blinding white light then it disappeared.

I closed my eyes as the painful light touched them, something new. I could stand the sun but here I was suffering from a mere flash.

What was left was magic. The statue had reverted back to a crystal white and the web of cracks had all disappeared. It looked as good as new except for the grotesque lack of a head and snail breasts.

The blood had done its designated work. The flowers on her head were in full bloom. The roses looked alive and I could see the small veins moving under the petals.

What was even more fascinating was that the pouring jar the statue was holding above its head was now pouring blood into the flowers as though watering them.

"Look, Lucian, something is on the breasts."

Seraph shouted her voice echoing in the chamber. None of them had dared to approach the statue. Who would with all the strangeness it carried.

"Ooh, I didn’t even notice those gems."

I said. At the place where the statue’s breasts were, there was an orange nail-sized gem in the mouth of each snail.

I had deliberately avoided looking at the area since it was really unpleasant to look at.

’Lavitate ’

I floated to the gems and cautiously pulled them out, I waited expecting an attack but nothing.

I landed swiftly and looked around but no entrance or mechanism appeared.

"This seems to be another fool’s chase."

I said while still observing the chamber for any sign of a new door, mechanism, or portal..

"Maybe, there is a specific time, master."

Luna said softly. I nodded. I couldn’t be impatient. I looked up at the flowers then at the pouring blood then back to the flowers before it came to me.

"How had I not noticed, the amount of blood is reducing maybe the flowers are the spell itself or a trigger."

The pouring blood had reduced to a trickle and as I spoke it reduced to rapid droplets then it dried up.

At that moment everything went silent, it felt as if the air had been forcefully still and something big was holding onto space itself.

"Lucian move back, it’s moving."

Seraph shouted. I jumped back before her words reached me as the large pouring jar came plunging down. It shattered upon contact its pieces embedding into the walls.

The hands that had been lifted came down and the statue started to rotate until its back was turned towards me.

"I don’t think it’s going to attack, look its drawing a spell on the wall."

The statue was drawing a spell I had never seen before but some of the outer and middle patterns on the spell.

"Its another teleportation. "

I said to the others and stepped out of the chamber to observe the statue from the door. I knew we couldn’t escape since we were locked in one room but I was ready to fight if things went south.

After a while of perfect drawing the statue turned around pointed at us then stepped to the side.

It looked as though it was telling us to enter the portal that seemed to be forming which showed how much mana was gathering.

"What in the world is that!"

Unlike the normal portal what appeared was a little bit different but I knew by heart that it was a portal.

"Its a portal, just different mechanics."

I said while looking at the developing portal. It looked like an open door, the place where the door frames should have been was lined with golden light and the inside was a swirling white hole.

The statue pointed at the hole again as though hurrying us. The cave shook as if something was hitting it from the outside.

"The cave is crumbling!"

Abelion shouted while pointing at the wall behind them and started to move towards the chamber. It seems that whatever was holding the cave walls had finally broken after the spell was formed.

We were being forced towards the portal whether we liked it or not.

Cracks had slowly started to appear on the statue and one of the fingers pointing to the portal broke off and fell crumbling into dust in the process.

The others had already moved into the chambers and left the bleating horses behind as they got buried.

"I’ll go first."

Donovan said and stepped into the portal dissappearing. Nothing happened.

"Us too."

Abeliin entered while holding Isis’s hand. I glanced at the girls. Nixie nodded before stepping into the portal, the others followed right after.

Seraph was the last, she squeezed my hand and stepped in.

I looked back into the cave to find that only a small space had been left of the crumbling walls but it was still coming.

I Lavitate and slashed down the neck of the statue and caught the flower head.

I had been curious about what it was and I wanted to study it. A vampiric flower, something worth studying.

I stepped into the portal as the statue crumbled behind me and the cave finally spilled into the chamber.

A small bout of darkness embraced me then I was hit by a wave of heat so bad that it felt like my skin was burning.

’Where on earth are we?’

"Did we just get thrown into a volcano?"

Seraph said after noticing my arrival. I turned to look at the portal, as if sensing my uneasiness it disappeared in a small swirl.

"We just went from bad to worse.."

Nixie said as she activated her power. Water started to swirl around her as she tried to keep herself cool. I could imagine the uneasiness she was feeling in such a hot place as a siren.

"This place seems to be filled with mana more than the outside world but it will mainly benefit fire spellcasters."

I said while looking around. The world was as normal as a heat-filled world could be.

The cracks filled ground was black and rock hard. A small distribution of fire-resistant plants was also scattered around making the place feel a little bit alive.

There were small fixtures in the ground that seemed to be spilling magma which would then solidify a few moments later creating the black surface.

It was an unusual sight since magma wasn’t supposed to solidify that fast.

"Lets move forward. "

I said and took the lead. That was the only way to go since behind us was a wall and the sides of the road had small streams of magma.

I took the lead. I activated an ice spell and created a pathway for the others to step on while they followed behind me.

The measure was helpfull but the ice was melting just as fast and I was forced to layer it over and over again as we moved forward.

Lucky for us, we didn’t get attacked, the place seemed to be empty except for the searing pain that seemed to burn into the flesh.

I couldn’t detect any life signature even in the volcano but my senses picked up something unusual.

I picked up my pace.

It didn’t take long before something came into my view.

A castle.

"There seemed to be a castle upfront i want you all to keep your guard up."

The house was just as dark and had rivers of magma going under it. I looked around but there was no other building in front of or around the house.

It was like an island in this black and red world.

"Why would a house be here?"

Seraph asked the moment we came to a stop in front of the large door. I could feel the cool air coming out of the house from the small spaces on the door, clearly tempting us to enter.

"Anyone want to stay outside?"

I asked for the sake of. No answer.

"Okay, let’s go in and find out whatever brought us here."

I placed my hand on the door and it pushed itself open. I didn’t immediately step in but turned to Jezebel.
