Chapter 251: Chapter 251- Fear

The moment the purple light dyed Grey’s body and the entire tunnel of flesh in a deep violet hue, the shadow beneath his feet began to tremble violently.

Its form started to distort, thin cracks appearing across its surface as if it could no longer withstand the suppressive might emanating from the purple crystal. The shadow writhed like a living thing, its edges tearing apart as though it were being shredded by an invisible force.

It cried and begged shamelessly, its voice filled with panic and desperation.

However, Grey’s target of suppression was not the shadow.

It was the massive face.

The instant the purple crystal released its light and spread that eerie glow across Grey’s entire body, the sentient spirit inside the scythe shuddered slightly.

Its six eyes snapped open wide in disbelief, each pupil contracting sharply.

Even though the suppressive power radiating from the purple crystal was not overwhelming in quantity, it possessed an indescribable domineering aura, one so absolute that even he, a former divine being, could not prevent his spirit from trembling.

’Where did this purple light come from!!? How can he possess such a power within him!’ The sentient spirit exclaimed inwardly, shock rippling through its consciousness.

The purple radiance did not only startle the sentient spirit or frighten the shadow, it also caused the massive face to pause mid-movement.

The usual malevolent grin that stretched across its grotesque features vanished completely.

In its place was a solemn, almost wary expression.

Its deep, pitch-black eyes twitched faintly, and for the first time, something resembling fear surfaced within them.

Not only were these entities affected by the aura of the purple crystal, but the entire tunnel of flesh also began to tremble. Wet, squelching sounds echoed from the walls as if the living passage itself was reacting to the oppressive presence.

Above the ground, the colossal head with four eyes trembled slightly.

Its gaze, which had previously been unfocused and indifferent, slowly shifted.

With a stiff, unnatural motion, it turned its massive head toward the direction where Grey stood.

The movement was so sudden and heavy that it felt as though the entire world had shuddered.

Its two open eyes gradually sharpened, locking onto Grey’s location with terrifying precision.

At that exact moment, the red sky above was violently torn apart.

From the裂 in the heavens, two enormous halberds descended.

Each halberd stretched several hundred meters in length, radiating an indescribable and terrifying might that pressed down upon the land like a collapsing mountain.

The first halberd was completely white, blinding light spewing from its surface like an endless stream of divine radiance.

The second halberd exuded a domineering aura so intense that even the sky itself seemed to tremble under its presence.

Two separate senses emerged from the halberds, ancient and cold.

Their gazes locked directly onto the giant head.

Those gazes carried no emotion, only an ancient, unquestionable authority.

The giant head, which had just turned toward Grey, shuddered once more.

After a brief pause, it slowly withdrew its gaze from Grey and turned to look toward the distant horizon instead.

Seeing this, the two halberds retracted their attention from the giant head and began scanning the entire land, their senses sweeping across the surroundings in search of any intruders.

Not far from the giant head, perhaps only several tens of thousands of meters away, the captain felt her entire body go cold.

When she saw the massive head move, her heart nearly stopped.

’What the heck is happening? Why is it moving?’ she asked inwardly, panic rising in her chest.

But before her thoughts could settle, the sky above her cracked open as well, and the two halberds, now appearing several meters in length from her distant perspective, descended into view.

At that moment, despair flooded her heart.

She instinctively felt that those sacred weapons had appeared for her.

’But I haven’t even done anything yet for the sacred weapons to appear. If I had completed the mission, then it would make sense... but why now? Did something go wrong?’ she thought, her mind racing with fear.

Slowly, she watched as the massive head shifted its gaze back toward the distance.

At the same time, the halberds withdrew their focus from the giant head and began sweeping the area, searching for any hidden presence.

The captain knew that if she were discovered, she would be annihilated instantly.

Without hesitation, she brought out several concealment talismans and attached them to her body one after another.

However, she knew these alone would never be enough to hide from sacred weapons of such caliber.

Gritting her teeth, she retrieved several more rare talismans and magic treasures specifically designed to suppress one’s aura.

Among them was a peculiar item, a single golden feather.

The moment she took out the feather, hesitation flickered across her face.

This treasure was not something meant to be used lightly.

But the shadow of death was already looming over her.

She did not dare hesitate any longer.

The instant she activated the golden feather, a faint golden ripple spread across her body, and all traces of her aura vanished completely.

Her figure began to blur, turning semi-transparent as though she were fading out of existence.

Even so, she still felt it was not enough.

These were divine weapons.

Ordinary concealment would not deceive them.

With trembling hands, she brought out a small jade bottle.

Inside were several pieces of writhing red flesh.

Using the golden feather, she traced symbols into the air. As the final stroke was completed, her aura reappeared, but this time, it perfectly matched the aura of the red tentacles within the land.

She had disguised herself as part of the environment itself.

"Let’s hope this concealment is enough..." she whispered under her breath.

The moment those words left her lips, she sank deep into the ground, hiding herself completely as the terrifying senses of the sacred halberds continued sweeping across the world above.

At the same time, the gazes of the two halberds spread outward, sweeping across the land as they covered the entire area.

Their senses were vast and all-encompassing, like invisible tides washing over every inch of the world below.

The captain suddenly felt that terrifying aura descend upon her.

It passed through every layer of concealment she had painstakingly prepared. The talismans, the treasures, even the golden feather, all of them were pierced through as though they did not exist.

The probing force did not stop there.

It reached directly into her sea of consciousness.

For a brief instant, it felt as if her very thoughts were being flipped through like pages in an open book.

Cold sweat drenched her back.

She did not dare breathe.

However, after that brief inspection, the terrifying sense did not attack.

It withdrew from her body as if she were nothing more than a grain of dust, then continued sweeping across the land in search of something else.

In shock, the captain watched as the two halberds slowly rose and descended back into the crack in the sky.

The moment they disappeared, the overwhelming might that had blanketed the world also vanished, as if it had never existed.

The pressure lifted.

The sky returned to its previous blood-red hue.

All across the land, countless creatures shuddered violently and retreated into hiding, not daring to show even the slightest movement.

Only the red tentacles continued to sway above the surface.

Even then, their movements were cautious and restrained, as if they feared that the sacred weapons might suddenly return at any moment.

None of them dared to attack.

"What... just happened?" the captain muttered, her voice trembling slightly.

"Why did the sacred weapons of this world appear and probe everything? They even saw through my concealment... yet they didn’t kill me."

Her heart was still pounding violently in her chest.

Under normal circumstances, the sacred halberds remained far beyond the sky and would almost never appear.

They would only descend when there was a catastrophic threat attempting to escape this world, or when the giant head itself tried to break free from its restraints.

Aside from those two situations, nothing else would ever draw their attention.

To the sacred weapons, everything else was insignificant.

Meaningless.

So when their senses spread out and began probing the entire land, she naturally assumed they were searching for intruders.

Yet in the end, they ignored her completely.

This realization caused her to release a long breath she did not even realize she had been holding.

Relief washed over her.

After all, she had already invested an enormous amount of effort and resources into this place.

She had laid out plans that stretched far into the future.

If everything had been destroyed before it even began, the loss would have been unbearable, both materially and to her pride.

Especially after she had invited Grey here under the promise that they would both be able to increase their cultivation by leaps and bounds.

"Little Grey should also be safe..." she murmured.

However, her expression soon turned serious.

"But what could have caused the sacred halberds to appear and actively probe the area? Could something have truly happened that I failed to account for?"

Her gaze slowly shifted toward the direction where the sacred halberds had lingered just before they disappeared.

Although their attention had only paused there for a fraction of a second, it was enough. Enough to spark suspicion, and enough to ignite her curiosity.

"If it’s a treasure... then it’s not impossible for me to seize it," she muttered, a faint glint appearing in her eyes.

"I just hope it’s not some terrifying existence that was about to escape."

The captain licked her lips, a mixture of greed and caution flickering across her face.

Without wasting any more time, she shot forward, rushing toward the location where the halberds had focused their attention moments earlier.

Coincidentally...

That was the exact same place where Grey stood.
