VRMMO: World's First Glyphborne-Chapter 93: The Housekeeper
’So this is the handsome guy she is always bragging about serving. When she kept saying he was rich, I was always picturing the silver fox type.’
Valerie smirked to herself as she looked over Percy’s sleeping body, before moving on to continue with her work. Naturally thoughts of mischief entered her mind, such as the classic moustache drawing.
But for one, that would absolutely result in her getting her co-worker in trouble and most likely fired, which would make her a truly horrible person.
Plus, even if she could somehow do something he wouldn’t be able to trace back to this bot, they were heavily monitored and regulated. Naturally they couldn’t steal, they were remote controlled robots, but the monitoring was set in place to deal with worries of what they would do in the riches homes, and with the possibility of unlocking doors from within to allow access.
All in all the company was proud to announce that crime rates with the personal service androids was at least half of that with true live in maids.
Valerie was in the middle of cleaning up, specifically putting all of the countless D-fuel cans into the trash, when Percy began to stir. As was her profession, she ignored him rising from the chair and simply acted like she didn’t exist.
"Ah, you must be Zhu Li’s replacement. She did say that she would be away this week dealing with family issues. You’re doing a good job."
Percy said with a smile, an action that was completely out of the blue and forced Valerie to pause the music she was blasting through her computer and cough up the snacks she was stuffing her face with.
She quickly paused her music and took a moment to compose herself while the Val-bot stared at Percy awkwardly. After a few seconds, it bobbed its head and spoke in a neutral, synthetic voice.
{Yes Sir.}
"Please don’t with the sir stuff. I’m not a knight and I’ve done absolutely nothing to deserve it. Call me Percy, I insist."
Valerie smiled behind the robot’s stoic expression, as it was hard for it to emote anything when it didn’t have a face, before she responded through it.
{My apologies. Should I continue with cleaning up, or would you like me to prepare you some food after your game session?}
Percy pulled himself from the chair and strode across the room, but not before plucking some empty cans from his computer desk and placed them into the bin that the Val-bot was carrying.
He gently took it from her and brushed his hair out of his face, making it fall into a place that gave him a rugged bedhead, that did absolutely nothing to hinder his appearance. Seriously, he was the type of man who could smear himself in dirt and somehow still make it look good.
It was unfair sometimes, how good looking some people could be. Wait... What was she thinking about again? Right, professionalism! Pay attention Val and stop thinking about chiselled bone structure!
Shifting in her chair as she felt strangely flushed, Valerie had the Val-bot look up at Percy, which was necessary to look him in that stupidly handsome face given how tall he was.
"You know, Zhu Li was bragging that her replacement was a good cook. How that girl can brag about someone else’s skills as if they are her own, I have no idea. But still, I wanna see if she was telling the truth.
So if you could, would you mind preparing a bit of food? You can just use whatever is lying around in the kitchen, and in the meantime I’ll finish this and take a shower."
He flashed her an award winning smile, and she could almost swear his teeth glinted when he did so, before he started to pick up the cans and trash filling his room. The Val-bot watched him in stunned silence for a few moments, before slowly nodding and walking out of the room.
Valerie herself was stunned, and blushing ever so slightly underneath her visor. it was surprising that he had spoken to her, but to hear that he had learned his usual servers name was extra strange.
Most clients didn’t bother speaking to them at all, and those who did simply called them "You there" or just snapped at them and issued their orders. But then again, should she be surprised?
If it was any other client, then yes. But Percy? She shouldn’t have been surprised with Percy. That was just how he was. Always friendly, welcoming to all and humble despite the weight of his name pressing down on him.
Maybe what surprised her instead, was that they had spoken about her. In fact, she couldn’t stop thinking about it for some reason. Her co-worker had bragged about her to her friend, even if neither realised she already knew Percy.
So why was she so red? It was just Percy! It didn’t make any sense. Then again, not counting the day at the Beta test, they hadn’t seen each other in years.
She was completely lost in her thoughts as she pulled out some ingredients from Percy’s incredibly well stoked fridge and simply started to cook, putting more effort into it than she did with her own dinner.
By the time Percy was entering the room, dressed in fresh clothes and towel drying his hair, Valerie was putting the finishing touches on the dish. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖
A perfectly pan seared steak, a real steak too, with a side of crispy roast potatoes with a small dash of a basic salad to give him some greens. She would have prepared more if she was given more time, but Percy didn’t seem to mind.
He immediately dug in, letting out groans of food based pleasure as he chewed his first cut of the steak.
"Honestly... how in the world do you cook so well without being able to taste it?" He said between mouthfuls, giving himself a chance to breathe before inhaling some of the potatoes and groaning again at their juicy flavouring.
{A lot of experience, Sir... I mean, Percy.}
Part of her was glad that the robot she was controlling had no face, as she could not wipe the strange smile from her face. Then again, another part of her didn’t want to stop, as she simply watched her strange old friend savour her food with a goofy, unexplainable smile on her face.
