VRMMO: World's First Glyphborne-Chapter 96: Time And Relative Dimension In Space
A space that was easily ten times as large as the tiny circular tower should have been able to hold was hidden behind that door. Not only did this space not care about dimensional consistency, but it wasn’t even circular in its construction.
And yet, despite all sense and reason, this massive space was contained behind such a simple and frail looking door that seemed like it would break just from a strong wind.
With floors made of elegant wood panels, broken up by tall stone pillars that stretched high to support the multiple floors above this one. Floors that totalled more than three, because of course they did. Why would the number of floors on the outside of the tower have any correlation with those within. That was silly talk, of course.
It was a design reminiscent of old rustic cabins and ski lodge hotels, down to the addition of a receptionist positioned behind a wooden desk. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺
A few individuals milled around inside of the impossible lodge. While most of them looked like normal people and dressed to match, albeit normal people on the more wealthier side of it, there was at least some people that looked like traditional wizards.
With flowing robes, pointed hats and long beards that nearly touched the floor. Now that was a real wizard, not like the balding, patchy bearded man that had helped her.
Even if her teacher was great, the aesthetics of everything just went a long way, you know?
The door swung closed behind Belladonna, bumping her in the butt as if it was insisting that she go inside and actually interact with some people. The receptionist’s desk was directly in front of her, and the woman behind it was already watching Belladonna with a warm smile.
So naturally, Belladonna completely ignored her for the moment, turned on her heels and walked to the corner.
That confused the receptionist for a moment, but when she realised Belladonna’s destination, a look of understanding brushed across her face and she nodded softly, as if she was almost impressed with her reasoning.
"Greetings, I was hoping that you would tell me the rules of this place. If my attire, and especially my lack of shoes, is an issue then I hope you will give me a chance to change as this is my first visit."
Her tone was polite, even if a little forced, as she stopped in front of the towering Hellion that stood in the corner. Specifically, it was an Amodite, the same race as her teachers’ Butler.
Descendent of the Punishers of the Pit and self proclaimed rule keepers of the world, with a proclivity to do so with incredibly violence.
The Amodite, who was wearing trim and form fitting robes that made him look like a monk, glanced down at her before smirking slightly. He snorted some smoke from his nostrils, in both amusement of her manners and of his pride at her natural respect, before puffing out his chest.
"It is good to meet those that understand rules and order. Your attire offers no issue, there is no dress code within the Tower of Mystica. We do ask that you refrain from running within the corridors, however."
"Understandable. Hooligans that do such things deserve to have their legs broken, at the very least." Belladonna added with a nod of her head, as if such a barbaric statement was the most natural thing in the world.
It would make anyone else think she was crazy, but it made the Amodite smirk and let out another amused snort.
"Exactly. I’m glad to see at least someone understands something so basic. Violence of any kind is restricted within these walls, and any violent parties will be punished, regardless of who started it.
Any destructive or experimental spells will be contained to the appropriate testing rooms. Flight spells must not be used more than a grit from the ground and can be used at a pace no quicker than a Skulkers walking speed. Any..."
He rattled off a list of various rules, varying from serious things such as intentionally sabotaging others potions or spell rituals to cause them harm, to painfully mundane things such as the maximum volume one could speak at within the library between certain hours that had been deemed quiet time.
There were a few issues when it came to rules revolving around height or speed, as unsurprisingly - because the Devs really wanted to go wild with the realism- they did not use the standardised units of measurement of metres or miles per hour like they did Belladonna’s world.
Hell, even they themselves still couldn’t decide universally, as some savages still refused to learn what a kilometre was and preferred to measure things in washing machines or hot dogs. However she felt she could still infer some measurements from watching others and convert them for the future.
All of these rules, however incoherent or ridiculous, were treated with the same seriousness by the Amodite, and so Belladonna did her best to memorise them all. At the end of the rule lecture, she pulled a glass jar from her bottomless bag and removed the lid.
She held up the jar to the Amodite, showing him the contents of squirming and wriggling leech-like creatures as she said with a kind smile,
"Thank you for telling me the rules and for carrying out your duties. As a thanks, would you like to take one of these Sin-suckers? I am aware that bribery is a pointless endeavour, and so that is not the purpose of this.
I merely mean to show thanks and manners."
The Amodite narrowed his eyes at the offer, but as soon as he heard her carefully worded explanation, he let out another amused huff and softened his expression. He peered into the jar curiously, the debate clear on his face as he gnawed at his lip in contemplation, before he finally broke.
He plucked one of the Sin-suckers from the jar before lifting it to his lips as Belladonna quickly recovered and stored the jar. Like he was eating noodles, the Amodite slurped up the Sin sucking leech, chewed a few times before gulping it down and letting out a satisfied groan.
"Been far too long since I’ve had one of those." He muttered with a content smile.
Belladonna laughed softly, bowing her head in respect again, before walking away and finally approaching the receptionist’s desk.
"I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone handle Fla’mbae quite so elegantly. What was it that you fed him anyways?" The receptionist said with an amused smile, leaning on her desk in a casual manner as she chatted with Belladonna
"Sin Suckers," She explained, briefly showing her the jar of the little creatures, "Amodites love them. All Hellions do, I think. But I know for certain Amodites do. It’s like a delicacy to them."
"Hmm... I’ve never heard that one before. I’ll have to remember it for the future." She said with a laugh before sitting up straight, clearing her throat and putting on her professional expression.
"Now, present your member ring and I will see what services are available to you today."
