Chapter 43: Chapter 42: Breaking the Deadlock

There was no malice in Sharon’s eyes as she looked at Bella, giving a barely perceptible nod.

Bella looked back at her, her fists clenched tightly. After a moment, she nodded and stepped aside, saying, "Ms. Cheney, sorry to trouble you."

"It’s just looking at clothes, not a bother." Sharon smiled and walked over to Bella’s suitcase, starting to rummage through it.

Bella was actually very nervous. By now, she understood that Rhonda calling her away earlier was just a ploy to lure her away. What worried her now was that Farah Garner might have really planted the Jade Buddha in her suitcase to frame her. If it was found on the spot, she would have no way to explain, not even taking a dip in The Serpent River could clear her name.

Sharon meticulously searched through the suitcase but found nothing. She neatly folded everything she had gone through before moving on to look at the two pieces of clothing Bella had folded on the bed, finding nothing again.

Lawson wasn’t dumb; he had already figured out that Farah and Rhonda teamed up to set Bella up.

He’d been in the circle for years and knew all about those little tricks between actresses. But to him, Bella, being a newcomer with no background, even if wronged and feeling resentful, didn’t matter much.

However, Rhonda and Farah had some backgrounds, so it was better to seize the opportunity to foster good relations.

But Sharon’s appearance surprised him a bit. Even more surprising was Sharon’s attitude towards Bella, which seemed quite protective.

His mind spun quickly, and he stepped forward saying, "It seems to be just a misunderstanding. Farah, maybe the Jade Buddha got lost somewhere else, or maybe you placed it somewhere and forgot for the moment; better search thoroughly again."

"Perhaps." Farah replied with a stern face, sounding a bit discontent.

Lawson furrowed his brow, feeling she didn’t know when to back off. It irked him a bit, but the emotion quickly faded away, just in a blink, he had already returned to being affable. "Ms. Cheney, you’ve never liked car rides; it must have been tiring coming all the way here. Let me take you back to your room to rest a bit."

"Lawson, this isn’t our first collaboration, no need for such politeness." Sharon smiled, showing no intention of criticizing the staff for taking Farah’s side earlier, not even bringing it up. She just said, "How about this, I quite like Bella; why don’t we let her stay in the same room with me."

"How would that be okay, what if it disturbs your rest, Ms. Cheney..."

Before Lawson could finish, Sharon interrupted him, "It’s fine. It’d be nice to have someone to talk to, make it less boring."

Since she put it that way, the staff had to comply, "Alright then, Bella can move in with Ms. Cheney. Ms. Cheney, should we switch to a larger room?"

"Sure. Then I’m counting on you, Lawson." Sharon nodded.

"It’s nothing, really. I’ll go arrange it right away." Lawson smiled and went out to change the room.

Rhonda smiled, saying, "I knew Sister Acker isn’t that kind of person. Sister Acker, pack your things first, let’s hang out together when you’re free. Ms. Cheney, you come along too, okay?"

Sharon smiled, appearing easygoing, yet said nothing in response to Rhonda’s suggestion.

Rhonda laughed and left the room, with the other newcomers who came to watch the scene making a hasty exit as well.

Farah grimly stared at Bella, but since Sharon was still there, she couldn’t bring herself to utter any threatening words and left the room resentfully.

Bella finally breathed a sigh of relief, "Thank you, Ms. Cheney, for your help."

"It’s just some petty tricks; you must be more cautious in the future." Sharon said, "Bella, have you and Farah had any unpleasant encounters before?"
