Wasteland Border Inspector-Chapter 243 - 114: Frenzied Gains, the Inspector’s Four-Piece Set! (Part 4)
Cheng Ye stepped onto the conveyor belt, which immediately started to move slowly, smoothly transporting him into the enclosed isolation chamber ahead.
The interior had no extra decorations; the walls were embedded with various exposed instruments, with probes adjusting angles as the conveyor moved, exuding a cold, precise feel.
Unlike Happiness City’s checkpoint where residents had to report numbers themselves, everything here was fully automated.
The conveyor pushed him forward, the instruments automatically initiated inspections, a mechanical voice counting in between the beeping alerts.
Cheng Ye watched the scanner overhead with interest, suddenly feeling like a piece of merchandise being transported on an assembly line, undergoing a final check before leaving the factory.
Centrally located in the chamber, a cube-shaped instrument emitted a faint humming sound, and a beam of pale blue light shot out from the side, scanning him from head to toe.
Initially bewildered by its purpose, Cheng Ye turned his head to see a woman next door also undergoing inspection, her eyes seemed somewhat fervent, and she discreetly swallowed several times.
Following her gaze, he discovered that the instrument’s function was actually to see through.
On the wall to Cheng Ye’s left, a screen was displaying a rotating image of an exposed human figure.
After strengthening his skills several times, his body now appeared as sharply defined as a sculpture, his muscle lines smooth and tight, without a single bit of excess bulk, imbued with strength and aesthetic beauty.
Of course, looking lower was somewhat unseemly; this damn instrument offered no privacy at all!
"Don’t worry, it’s just a shallow scan, mainly to check for implanted bombs or abnormal wounds, much quicker than manual undressing inspections."
Li Changfeng’s voice came from outside the chamber, carrying a mocking laugh.
That laugh made Cheng Ye feel even more embarrassed; fortunately, the woman next door was sent away first.
After the scanning was complete, the conveyor belt continued to move him forward.
A tray suddenly rose in front, and a mechanical arm extended a needle thin as a hair.
"Blood test?"
Cheng Ye proactively extended his right hand, the needle gently pricked his fingertip, completing the sampling with almost no pain.
Over ten seconds later, the tray retracted the blood sample into the chamber wall.
The conveyor belt suddenly sped up, like a smooth ribbon, steadily sending him toward the chamber’s rear.
The end panel slowly rose, revealing a bright corridor outside.
"So, how’s our procedure? Quite advanced, right?" Li Changfeng met him, eyes filled with anticipation.
"Indeed...very efficient."
Cheng Ye glanced back, suddenly wishing Happiness City had such a chamber.
"Is it Source Rail technology?"
"Yes, the detection equipment you see mostly uses Source Rail technology."
"Impressive."
Cheng Ye nodded sincerely, subtly opening the panel to glance, noticing Li Changfeng’s cooperation index had climbed to 42%.
Watching the item search on the panel, a thought unexpectedly popped into his head:
This isolation chamber shouldn’t be considered an item, but rather a facility, right?
Given its scale, it clearly couldn’t be solely owned by Li Changfeng; at least it had to be managed by the checkpoint’s station manager.
"I wonder if opting for a different path during promotion would’ve opened more search directions..."
Cheng Ye pondered silently, thinking if he could search for facilities, he might quickly locate this isolation chamber.
If he could bring a set back to Happiness City for reverse engineering, the checkpoint’s workload might reduce by at least 50%.
Continuing onward, the interrogation part hardly differed from Happiness City’s checkpoint.
The central section housed a semi-open inquiry desk, with an inspector seated behind blast-proof glass; the screen before them scrolled with information of personnel awaiting inspection, and communication relied entirely on microphones.
It slightly resembled the stage from a show Cheng Ye had watched before crossing over, except it lacked lights and applause, adding a touch of seriousness.
Cheng Ye stepped onto the platform opposite the inquiry desk with interest, as soon as he stood firmly, several bright lamps lit up all around, their beams coming from every direction, making it slightly difficult to keep one’s eyes open.
Instinctively squinting, he suddenly found the setup intriguing; under intense light, one easily gets unconsciously tense, unable to hide anything.
"How does it feel, experiencing pressure?"
Cheng Ye nodded and rotated his body to sense it more; suddenly, an idea sprung in his mind.
He stepped off the platform and looked toward Li Changfeng, "Changfeng, how about you stand up there and become the inspectee this time—I’ll try out your inspection process?"
"Sure, I’ll cooperate with you; try out the feeling."
Li Changfeng readily agreed without much thought, pointing to the side, "Inside, there are staff on duty; go through that passage, and they’ll adjust the permissions for you."
Following the indicated passage into the examination chamber, there were indeed four night-shift staff inside, two men and two women, all dressed in identical blue uniforms.
Seeing Cheng Ye enter, they all stood up simultaneously and greeted him respectfully, "Inspector Cheng, hello!"
"Haha, don’t be nervous."
Cheng Ye quickly waved, sporting a casual smile, "I’m just here to observe and learn, to experience your inspection process—please cooperate a bit."
"How does Inspector Cheng want us to cooperate?"
Noticing Li Changfeng had stepped up, he deliberately looked around and exaggeratedly rubbed his hands, pretending to be nervous under strict inspection.
The four staff couldn’t help but lower their heads, stifling laughter at the sight.
"Check him according to your highest standards here; use whatever means you have."
"This..."
"Just do as Inspector Cheng says, thoroughly check me!" Li Changfeng’s voice came through the microphone, accompanied by hearty laughter, "Deng Hao, disable my permissions—now, Inspector Cheng is me, do as he says, I’ll take responsibility if anything goes wrong."
