Chapter 126: Chapter 126: We Are Not Divorced Yet

Mason Landon sighed. "I know I can’t convince you, but I won’t give up, Vivian. I still want to get you out of this hornet’s nest, no matter what."

Vivian Quinn was nonchalant. "You can’t change me, and I can’t change you. So do whatever you want. As long as you don’t interfere with me, I don’t care."

The conversation once again ended on a sour note. After getting in his car, Mason Landon didn’t leave right away. He sat quietly, lit a cigarette, and smoked it slowly.

His phone suddenly rang. He swiped to answer. "Speak."

"I have the results on that thing you asked me to look into. Jett Sterling isn’t faking it. Judging by the amount of medication his attending physician is picking up from the hospital, his condition is indeed quite serious."

"I know."

"What’s wrong with you? You don’t sound too good."

Mason Landon took a hard drag from his cigarette and blew out a smoke ring. "Vivian has changed. Maybe the blow Jett Sterling dealt her was too great. She’s like a completely different person."

Rowan Croft chuckled. "I just don’t get it. Why do you like that girl so much?"

"You wouldn’t understand."

"No, I don’t. Is all this lovey-dovey stuff really that important? Important enough to make you go up against Jett Sterling?"

"There’s always that one person in the world who makes you willing to risk it all."

"Alright, alright, alright..." Rowan Croft cringed. "You’re giving me goosebumps. That’s so cheesy, you can stop now."

Mason Landon bit down on the cigarette filter. "It’s just a shame. She’ll never understand what she means to me, or just how deep my feelings for her run."

Rowan Croft’s tone turned serious. "Mason, we’ve been brothers for years, so let me give you some advice. There are plenty of other women in the world. Don’t get in so deep you can’t get out. I’m against you opposing Jett Sterling, but you’re stubborn. I can’t stop you, so all I can do is go along with it. Even I don’t dare to think about how this will all end."

"Don’t worry. You’ve never been directly involved in this, and I won’t let anything happen to you. I just need you to help me handle a few small things behind the scenes."

"It’s not that I’m afraid of getting dragged into this with you. I just don’t think it’s worth it for a woman."

"You wouldn’t understand."

"You’re right, I don’t," Rowan Croft said. "You’re in a bad mood. Why don’t you come out for a drink and blow off some steam?"

"I’m not going. Drinking will cloud my thoughts." Mason Landon stubbed out his cigarette. "I just need some quiet."

"You... I can’t even be bothered with you. I’m hanging up."

Mason Landon hung up and lit another cigarette. The nicotine began to clear his mind.

He took a drag from the cigarette, then suddenly whipped his head around to look into the distance. He saw a figure instantly duck into the shadows.

Mason Landon’s lips curved into a smirk. He picked up his phone again and made a call.

The other person picked up quickly. "Speak."

Mason Landon said provocatively, "Jett Sterling, you must hate my guts, right? I bet you’re just dying to have someone kill me."

"Your death would be no great loss."

"Too bad you can’t do anything to me. Tell your dogs to stay away from me. If they dare to keep watching me, don’t blame me for what happens next."

"You don’t have the guts," the man on the other end of the line said calmly. "Right now, it’s not me who’s unwilling to divorce Vivian, it’s her. So pressuring me is useless. And you don’t dare pressure her, because she’d notice easily. You don’t even dare to threaten me with her safety, because you’re afraid she’ll find out she’s been poisoned."

A dangerous glint filled Mason Landon’s eyes. "Jett Sterling, you’re enjoying this, aren’t you?"

"I’m not enjoying anything. Because as of now, we’re both losers, and so is Vivian. There’s no way you haven’t noticed how she’s changed. Mason, is this really your way of loving Vivian?"

"You don’t need to say things like that to me!" Mason Landon tried to suppress his anger, but his voice still rose unconsciously as he spoke, word by word, "If you hadn’t shown up, would Vivian have become like this? Jett Sterling, you really shouldn’t have ever entered Vivian’s life."

"I don’t want to discuss this topic with you anymore," Jett Sterling said faintly. "All I hope for now is that Vivian doesn’t become radical, that she doesn’t lose faith in life and humanity, and that she can continue to be the warm, kind Vivian Quinn she was."

"Jett Sterling, you’ve only known Vivian for a few days. Do you really think you know her that well?" Mason Landon closed his eyes and warned, "I’ll say it again: you will divorce Vivian, no matter the cost. Otherwise, I don’t mind taking you down with me!"

After saying his piece, Mason Landon hung up the phone.

On the other end, Jett Sterling tossed his phone onto the desk and pinched the bridge of his nose.

"Master Sterling, the current situation isn’t entirely without its advantages for us," Easton Rivers said. "At the very least, you and Madam haven’t divorced yet. The medical team is also working around the clock to develop an antidote. As soon as there’s a breakthrough, you can tell her the truth."

"Do you take Mason Landon for a fool, thinking he’d go to all this trouble only to gain nothing and implicate himself in the process?" Jett Sterling said coldly. "Since he dared to make a move, he must have come fully prepared. Never underestimate a mad dog."

Easton Rivers nodded. "Yes, I’ll remember that."

"But you’re right about one thing. At the very least, Vivian and I are not yet divorced." Jett Sterling opened his eyes. "Go get some rest. We still have a major battle ahead of us."

"Yes."

...

The next day, Vivian Quinn went to school on time. When classes ended in the evening, Mason Landon called out to her. "Vivian, let me give you a ride."

"Sure," Vivian Quinn said with a smirk. "I’m going to Sycamore Bay. It’s a long way for a taxi, anyway."

Mason Landon frowned. "What are you going to Sycamore Bay for?"

"Did you forget what I told you last night? If I want to take everything from Jett Sterling, of course I have to charge back in."

"Vivian, have you lost your mind? Do you really think Jett Sterling is that easy to deal with? Forget just you, even ten of you wouldn’t be a match for him."

"How will I know if I don’t try?"

"Vivian, don’t be so willful."

Vivian Quinn adjusted the bag on her shoulder. "I was just saying that. I didn’t actually expect you to give me a ride. I’ll get a taxi."

"Vivian!" Mason Landon started to go after her, but Vivian quickly got into a taxi and sped off.

The taxi pulled up to Sycamore Bay. As soon as Vivian Quinn got out, the bodyguard on duty at the main gate came over to greet her. "Madam, you’re back."

"Mhm." Vivian Quinn asked, "Is Jett Sterling here?"

"Master Sterling is home."

"Get a car ready. Take me inside."

"Yes."

When Vivian Quinn entered the villa, Nanny Jenner was serving tea to the man in the living room. She exclaimed in pleasant surprise, "Madam, you’re back!"

The man in the wheelchair froze, slowly turning his head to look at her. "What are you doing here?" 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞

Vivian Quinn walked into the living room and sat down. "We’re not divorced yet," she said calmly. "Why can’t I be here?"

"Vivian, what is it you really want?"

Vivian Quinn tilted her head. "You’ll find out soon enough."

The atmosphere instantly grew tense. Jett Sterling didn’t speak, as if he were thinking. After a long moment, he finally said slowly, "Vivian Quinn, you can’t be here."
