Chapter 156: Chapter 156: Willingly Had a Relationship With Her

Vivian was stunned. "Are you serious?"

"Of course."

"To appease your mom?" Vivian asked curiously. "If I get pregnant, will she finally leave us alone?"

"Of course not. It doesn’t matter if she likes you or not, or how much she pressures us—we’re never going to be apart." Jett Sterling looked at her, his gaze tender and earnest. "Vivian, it was the other day, when you were napping with Elle in your arms. It really moved me. I was thinking then that if Elle were our child, yours and mine, that moment would be the most beautiful sight in the world."

Vivian’s eyes welled up. "To be honest, I’ve had that crazy thought too. I don’t know why, but I really like Elle."

"Vivian, our future child will be the smartest, most adorable kid in the world."

Vivian beamed. "As adorable as Elle?"

Jett’s brow furrowed. "More adorable than him, of course. Also, try not to mention him as much in the future."

Vivian asked, "Do you really dislike Elle? But why? He’s so adorable..."

"I already told you, I was drugged. Who could ever like a child born under those circumstances, with a woman I despise? His very existence is a constant reminder that I was set up. No matter how cute he is, I will never like him."

Vivian hesitated for a moment before saying, "But have you ever considered how unfair that is to Elle...?"

"I know you have a soft spot for him, but there’s just no father-son bond between us. So let’s not talk about this anymore. He’ll be leaving soon, so you don’t need to get too emotionally invested in him."

Vivian didn’t know what else to say. "Let’s get some sleep."

"Alright. Good night."

...

The Chinese New Year holiday wasn’t over yet. Jett had wanted to take Vivian on a trip, but she refused.

"With Elle here, it wouldn’t be right for us to go on a trip by ourselves. Besides, he needs to spend more time with you."

Jett was clearly not happy about that.

Vivian noticed immediately and kissed his handsome, stern face. "Since you promised he could stay for half a month, you need to fulfill your fatherly duties. Go on, spend some quality time with him."

But children are incredibly perceptive. Elle could clearly sense Jett’s dislike and grew increasingly defiant toward him. Within a few days, the father and son were like oil and water.

At the dinner table, Elle picked up some food with his chopsticks. "Vivian, have some of this. Grandma, you have some too."

Wendy Reeves was delighted. "Thank you, my dear grandson."

Vivian gently corrected him, "Elle, according to traditional etiquette, you should serve your grandma first, then your daddy, and then me."

Wendy Reeves was slightly displeased. ’It hasn’t even been that long, and Vivian is already acting like she’s his mother.’

But on second thought, she realized Vivian was right. One should indeed serve elders first.

Elle pouted. "Fine, I’ll serve Grandma first from now on. But I’m not giving any to Daddy. He has his own hands."

Everyone was speechless.

Jett laughed in exasperation. "So, they don’t have hands and that’s why you need to serve them?"

Elle sighed like a little grown-up. "Daddy, you’re not a kid. Do you really have to spell everything out so clearly? Don’t you know perfectly well why I’m not serving you?"

Again, everyone was speechless.

"It’s not like I’m desperate for you to serve me," Jett said with a faint smile. "And you can stop fawning over my wife."

"Hmph!" Elle said with a sniff. "If I’d been born twenty years earlier, Vivian would be my wife. You wouldn’t even be in the picture."

Once more, everyone was speechless.

"COUGH, COUGH, COUGH..." Vivian nearly choked. "Elle, you never fail to say the most shocking things, do you!"

"I’m serious, Vivian! Daddy doesn’t deserve you at all. Marrying him was like planting a beautiful flower in a pile of cow manure."

"..."

Jett’s voice was cold. "Just eat your dinner."

Elle made a face at him before he went back to eating.

Vivian found it amusing but was also a little worried. After dinner, she played with Elle for a bit before heading to the gym with Jett.

She bolted the door and drew all the curtains. "Alright, you can get up and do your exercises now."

Jett finally stood up from his wheelchair, wrapping his arms around Vivian’s slender waist. "No rush. Let’s just hold each other for a bit."

Vivian smiled brightly and hugged him back tightly. Leaning against his chest, she said softly, "Jett, you should try to be a little nicer to Elle. He’s just a child, and he’s at an age where he needs affection."

"When I was his age, I had endless lessons and subjects to study every day. He gets to play all day; he’s already very lucky. Besides, you and my mom dote on him more than enough."

"That’s not the same," Vivian explained. "Your mom and I love him, but it’s completely different from a father’s love. Why do you think Shirley Wentworth sent Elle back? It’s because he needs a father’s love. The role of a father in a child’s life is crucial."

"Vivian, it would be incredibly easy for Shirley Wentworth to find someone to be a loving father to Elle, but she didn’t. Instead, she came back here, knowing full well that I’m married. Don’t you find that suspicious?"

"It is a little, but from a child’s perspective, she’s not wrong," Vivian reasoned. "And she was right the other day—if she really wanted to use the child to force you into marriage, she would have come back a long time ago."

Jett gave a faint laugh. "That’s because she knows perfectly well that I would never marry her, even with a child."

"...You two seem to know each other quite well."

"We may be arch-rivals, but we grew up in the same circles. She knows a bit about me. I, on the other hand, never bothered to learn about her, because there was no need."

Vivian was speechless.

"I didn’t even say anything. Why are you in such a rush to explain yourself?"

"I’m stating a fact, not making an explanation."

Vivian pouted. "I’m not that petty. It’s not like you slept with her willingly."

Jett let out a low chuckle. "How magnanimous of you, Mrs. Sterling."

"Stop wasting time. Let’s hurry up with the exercises."

"Alright."

The two of them worked out in the gym for over an hour, then showered in the en-suite bathroom before heading out.

The moment they opened the door, they saw Elle waiting there, looking at them curiously. "Vivian, what were you two doing in there for so long?"

"I was on the treadmill, and your daddy was keeping me company."

"Oh." Elle took her hand. "You’ve already spent time with Daddy, so now it’s my turn."

Jett frowned. "A boy shouldn’t be so dependent on others."

Elle retorted defiantly, "Isn’t the most dependent person here you, Daddy? You even have to follow Vivian when she’s just exercising. Talk about a tagalong!"

Jett was speechless. ???

Vivian laughed so hard her stomach hurt. "You know, Elle kind of has a point."

"Of course," Elle said smugly. "I’m the smartest!"

Jett’s face darkened. "You have one week left here."

Elle ignored him, pulling Vivian away. "Let’s go, Vivian!"

...

Time flew by, and in the blink of an eye, two weeks had passed. The day of Elle’s departure arrived.

What Vivian never expected was that this day would become the turning point in her and Jett’s destiny.
