Wedding Night: My Disabled Husband Made Me Cry-Chapter 196: Make a Deal
Vivian Quinn looked closely and saw two delivery boxes.
One contained a horrifying doll, the other a set of burial clothes. The attached notes both bore the same four words: "Vivian Quinn, go die!"
Joy Chase was so scared she was trembling all over. "Vivian, who on earth is targeting you? I’m so scared. You have to be extra careful when you go out from now on!"
"Joy, don’t be afraid. If you have a clear conscience, you have nothing to fear. I live my life with integrity, so I’m not scared of these threats," Vivian Quinn said reassuringly. "I’ll give these two packages to Easton Rivers to investigate. He’ll definitely find out who sent them. It’s not safe here. It looks like you’ll have to come back with me to Sycamore Bay."
"Vivian, I’ve already been a burden to you for so long. I’m all better now, I can’t keep holding you back. I’ll be fine, you don’t have to worry."
"How can I not worry when they’ve come right to your door?" Vivian Quinn said. "Besides, they’re targeting me, so now I’m the one putting you in danger. Listen to me. Go and stay at Sycamore Bay for now. We’ll talk again after this is investigated and the threat is gone."
"Vivian, I really don’t want to intrude on your life..."
"We can’t live here anymore. On my way over, the landlord called me. He was furious when he found out about the paint being thrown and said we have to move out."
"Then we can just rent another place."
"It’ll be the same no matter where we move until this is cleared up. Just listen to me."
Vivian Quinn helped Joy Chase pack her things, and they quickly moved out.
"Mrs. Sterling." Easton Rivers had come to help carry things. "I’ve already handled things with the landlord. We just had to pay a small penalty for breaking the lease. Please don’t worry."
"Good."
Vivian Quinn brought Joy Chase back to Sycamore Bay. Only after getting her settled did Vivian go upstairs and knock on the study door.
"Come in." A man’s low, pleasant voice came from inside.
Vivian Quinn opened the door and went in. "Jett, are you busy?"
"Not at all." Jett Sterling stopped typing and asked, "What happened with Joy Chase?"p>
"I don’t know who’s targeting me. They threw paint at her door and even sent threatening packages," Vivian Quinn said, walking up to him. "I wanted to discuss something with you."
"You want Joy Chase to come live here?"
"Did Easton Rivers tell you?"
"I guessed," Jett Sterling said, taking her hand. "Since the rental wasn’t safe, of course you’d want to protect her. It wasn’t hard to figure out."
"I already brought her back. That place really isn’t safe, and I didn’t have time to discuss it with you beforehand. If you don’t agree, I’ll just have her stay for two days, and then I’ll find a safer place for her to move to. Is that okay?"
"Vivian, have you forgotten what I told you?" Jett Sterling lowered his head and kissed the back of her hand. "I said before, you are the mistress of this house. You can make any decision you want, as long as it doesn’t affect our life together. You don’t need to consult me."
"Then do you think Joy staying here will affect our life?"
"That depends on you," the man said seriously. "If you pour all your heart and soul into your sister and neglect me, then of course it will have an effect. And I won’t be happy about it."
Vivian Quinn couldn’t help but laugh. "Of course not. Joy’s illness is cured, and she’s an adult now. I was already letting her live alone in a rental, so I’ve naturally let go."
"Her living at Sycamore Bay is just to ensure her safety. I’ll also find a tutor to help her catch up on her studies, but I don’t need to manage anything else."
Only then was Jett Sterling satisfied. "So, Mrs. Sterling, your attention can only be on me."
"That won’t do. I have to take care of Elle, too."
"Elle is certainly not as important as I am."
"How can you be so petty? You’re even competing with your own son."
Jett Sterling pulled her into his arms. "Vivian, you’re mine..."
Vivian Quinn’s eyes curved into crescents as she smiled. "Mhm, I’ll always be yours."
The man’s Adam’s apple bobbed, and he captured her lips in a kiss.
Vivian Quinn slowly closed her eyes, her mind gradually going blank as she nearly melted in his arms.
KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK!
The sudden sound at the door startled Vivian Quinn, whose eyes flew open as she leaped out of the man’s arms.
Jett Sterling’s face instantly turned cold. "Who is it?"
"Daddy, where’s Vivian?" Elle’s voice came from outside the door. "I can’t find her!"
Exasperated, Jett Sterling pinched the bridge of his nose.
Vivian Quinn was thoroughly amused. She straightened her clothes and went to open the door.
"Vivian!" Elle’s eyes lit up when he saw her. "Joy said she’s going to live with us from now on. Is that true?"
"It’s true," Vivian Quinn said, picking him up. "Is Elle happy?"
"Yes! Elle loves it when it’s lively!"
"Okay, let’s go downstairs and play with Joy."
"Okay!"
Jett Sterling watched them go, his eyes filled with tenderness. He picked up his phone and dialed a number.
"Aren’t you at your wit’s end with the Wentworth Group? I’ll make a deal with you..."
...
Shirley Wentworth had been incredibly busy the past few days.
The fact that Elle was not her biological son had to be kept strictly confidential, so she was busy erasing all related traces. She had also paid off the doctor involved.
Just as she finally finished and was about to take a nap, Vincent Wentworth came knocking. "Shirley, are you there?"
"I’m here." Shirley Wentworth went to open the door. "Brother, you were looking for me?"
"Take a look at this," Vincent Wentworth said, walking into the room and handing her a document.
"What is this?" Shirley Wentworth took it, and her expression changed drastically the moment she saw it. "What does Jett mean by this? He wants me to give him custody of Elle and never see him again? On what grounds?"
"On the grounds that you offended him, and that he can crush the Wentworth Group at any time," Vincent Wentworth stated in a tone that brooked no argument. "Dad and I have already discussed it. Although it’s a deal, it’s not a bad thing for the Wentworth Family."
"So you’re planning to sacrifice me for the sake of the Wentworth Family?" Shirley Wentworth stared at him in disbelief. "Brother, don’t you know I want to marry Jett? Not only are you not supporting me, but you also want me to send my son away as a bargaining chip?"
"Marrying Jett isn’t something you can achieve just by thinking about it. Shirley, wake up. The man you want to marry is probably the one man in this world you can never have. Understand?"
"I don’t care!" Shirley Wentworth burst into tears, losing control. "I love Jett! I gave him a child, why can’t I marry him? If it weren’t for Vivian Quinn interfering, I would be the rightful Mrs. Sterling by now!"
"Brother, help me. I know you must have a way to help me. You’ve been able to stand up to Jett since we were kids. You’re no less capable than he is. You can help me, right?"
"Shirley, you have to bear the consequences of your own mistakes. That’s the rule of the Wentworth Family." Vincent Wentworth patted her shoulder. "I will negotiate with Jett. Custody will go to him, but you will still have visitation rights."
"I don’t agree!" Shirley Wentworth shoved his hand away, completely losing her composure. "This child is the only link between me and Jett, and I will never give him up! I have loved Jett unwaveringly for ten years, as if it were a single day! Why on earth should I give up!"
Vincent Wentworth frowned. "Shirley, you’re too stubborn."
"It’s not that I’m stubborn, it’s that you don’t understand love at all." Shirley Wentworth tore the document in her hands to shreds. "I will absolutely never sign this agreement. I’d rather die!"
Vincent Wentworth’s frown deepened, his displeasure obvious.
As the two of them were locked in a standoff, the door was suddenly pushed open. "What’s going on? What could possibly make you two argue like this?"
