Chapter 542: The Raid Of the First Ring

We reached the bottom Ring of the station, stepping out of the secret industrial lift that my girls had managed to get the keycard for.

And by ’lift’, it really was just a large platform moving up and down between the Rings outside the station.

Like literally the entire thing was just suspended using cables where you are loaded up onto a platform that would be depressurised before the platform ascended or descended through the vacuum of space.

Obviously, that meant anyone taking it needed to wear a spacesuit so everyone aside from me had to put one on since I was wearing the power armour.

I wondered how they even set this up without the law enforcers on this station knowing...

The people manning the lift didn’t even talk to us and our only interaction with them was to present the keycard to them which they used some kind of scanner to read the card before letting us through.

We had to board it with several other people who were also taking the lift and all of them did not look like the type of people who would work within the confines of the law.

Everyone was just keeping out of each other’s way as we used the platform which was big enough to fit an entire ship on it.

Stepping back inside the ring, this place looked even worse than the ring above that we had been frequenting for our Merc jobs.

At least the second ring had tall buildings even if they were kind of run down with some barely being held together.

This place however... The entire place looked just like a slum.

The ’buildings’, if you could call it that, were basically just scrap metal that were welded or even just stacked together to form a shelter.

From what I can see, there were no buildings that were higher than three stories high. The streets here were also narrower with no main roads and the winding streets made the place look like a giant maze.

Good thing that it was still wide enough for my power armour to walk through.

"Where is the place?" I asked.

Ries took out her personal terminal and checked through her map, "Hmm... It’s quite a distance away... It looks like they chose to set up at the corner of the ring."

"How long do we need to get there?"

She shrugged, "Probably about a 5-minute walk, give or take?"

I raised an eyebrow, "That fast? Is this ring that small in size as compared to the others?"

"No... It’s just that we are already at the corner, Boss."

Ah, right... I forgot we weren’t at the centre anymore.

"Fair enough, lead the way."

Ries took the lead and the rest of us followed behind her, having to move in a single file since the roads were too narrow for us to move side by side comfortably.

There were even some places where I had to shuffle sideways to get through without bumping into the buildings on either side.

There also seemed to be more people staying on this Ring as compared to the Ring above even though this one was smaller in size.

When we were moving through the second Ring, most of the buildings we passed by were empty and devoid of life. Part of the reason, I would say, was because the buildings were practically half destroyed.

Over here, however, almost every one of this scrap building we walked past had someone staying inside them.

All of them were looking at us fearfully as we passed and if there was someone using the road ahead of us, they would just quickly duck into one of the buildings and hid inside to wait for us to pass before they emerged again.

"There must be some gang enforcing this area and they think we’re one of them... Maybe even the pirate gang?" Amber remarked.

That was pretty much what I expected and since we didn’t have business with them, I didn’t try to correct them either.

Eventually, we seemed to reach the edge of this area as the road suddenly widened to reveal a relatively large area that was just a flat open ground before it stopped outside of a wall made of sheet metal welded together.

The wall stretched for a significant distance before curving away on both sides which I assumed would just keep going until the very end.

There only seemed to be a single entrance here and that place had two guard towers on either side and both of them had automated turrets attached to them with their gun barrels trained at the area outside the gate.

I turned to the girls, "So what’s the plan?"

Amber tilted her head at me, "Isn’t it just straight forward here? We’re not planning on leaving any survivors, are we? So we can just kick down their front door and kill anything that moves. Then we burn down the entire place just to be sure~"

I blinked a few times at her, "No, wait... Are we really just planning to go through the front door just like that? Do we even know the layout of their base?"

"Ries and I will watch the main entrance, Mistress," Lea explained with a casual air, as if we weren’t just looking at a pirate base that should have at least a few hundred men inside. "They only have one way in and out to increase their base’s security so we can use that fact against them."

"I mean... It wouldn’t be that hard for them to blow open a hole in their wall just to escape, right? That would bring us some trouble, wouldn’t it?" I pointed out.

Ries gave me a thumbs up, "There’s no need to worry, Boss! I brought my drones again just for this possibility so even if they did manage to do that, I will be able to spot them and plug up the holes by shooting at them with my drones!"

"And I will help her with overwatch as well, Mistress," Lea added.

Alright... That means Amber, Mara and myself will be the ones storming into the base itself... Which means it will be the three of us up against probably a few hundred...

Wait...

I turned to Amber and Mara, "Are you two planning to use... That?"

Amber tilted her head at me again, "Hmm? Didn’t we already say that we aren’t planning on leaving any survivors? So that’s fine right? I’m also going to burn the whole place down once we get what we need so there shouldn’t be any evidence remaining either so there shouldn’t be a problem."

Right... If they were planning to use their Psionic powers, then there’s really nothing for me to worry about.

If it wasn’t because of the fact that we need to find the map that this pirate group possessed, Amber and Mara could have just destroyed this entire base without even needing to step inside the base itself.

"Alright... Let’s just confirm what we’re here for again... We need to get that Pre-AI Rebellion tech that the leader of this place has so that we can figure out where we can get this supposed treasure. So first thing we need to do is find the location of their leader."

Mara raised her hand, "I can do that, Captain. All we need is to grab one of their members and I’ll grab that information from them."

Ah yes... I almost forgot how overpowered Mara is in getting information from people...

I nodded at her, "I’ll leave that to you then, Mara. Once we have the location of the leader himself, I guess... Ummm... Can you go and get the item itself, Mara? Since you would be able to make sure that whatever it is was what we’re looking for by reading their minds?"

Mara nodded, "Of course, Captain."

"Good, then Amber and I will focus on making as much noise as possible to draw the pirates’ attention to us." freewёbnoνel.com

Amber raised her hand, "Loot! Don’t forget the loot!"

Oh right... Last I remembered, this place was meant to be some kind of illegal gambling den? And they have quite a lot of Credits too.

"Right, we’ll make the noise as we move to their Credits storage for the loot while shooting our way in."

I was prepared to deal with something like this so the armaments I chose for this raid also reflected that.

I once again had the twin shotguns and twin miniguns on my arms and on my shoulder was the variable mortar.

Honestly, I was worried that I might face other power armour here when I first chose the armaments since my choices would mean I needed to fight at close range to be effective against them... But now that I knew Amber and Mara weren’t holding back here, I wouldn’t even need to worry if a tank showed up during the raid.

Confirming the plan with the girls, Lea and Ries went off to find a good spot for them to set up to watch the walls and left Amber, Mara and myself to face the front door of the pirate base.

I turned to the two Psionics who were looking at me with anticipation.

"Let’s go flatten a pirate base, shall we?"

Sorry pirates, nothing personal~
