Chapter 777: Jackpot?

The building was burned down to the ground as the station’s firefighters only arrived when it was nothing more than a blackened ruin.

Not that they could have prevented it anyway since Amber was the one controlling the fire.

Thankfully, Eleanor did not ask about the fire and had left after we had concluded our business.

She also told me that she would pay me a bonus if I were to deal with the problem effectively, whatever that meant.

I returned to the rest of my girls and shared what had happened with them.

My first question was whether we could trust that Noble or not.

Mara had her own views on it and gave me a serious look.

"Captain... There’s something you should know about that woman... She basically sees everyone else that is weaker than her as things that are beneath her notice. That same attitude applies to even her own family members."

I nodded, "I kind of figured that seeing how she basically dismissed Amber during our conversation..."

"That’s why for her to actually talk like an equal is already a pretty big deal. If it was my brother, I would have told you no but I believe she is genuine in wanting to work with you on this."

"Huh... I’m surprised you would speak up for her."

"I’m not, Captain. I’m merely telling you the truth. I believe that she would not stab you in the back at least and I also know that she would have a vested interest in staying on your good side instead."

"What about the rewards that she is offering?"

"I can’t say about the bonus that she promised since that could just mean that she would pay us with a bounty of Credits for doing the job for her."

I raised an eyebrow, "Then why wouldn’t she just say that?"

"Credits to Nobles are like what honey is to you, Captain."

"Err... What? What even is that comparison?" I couldn’t help but blurt out.

"Credits is valuable to us and everyone else in the galaxy, Captain. But to them, it is worth nothing."

I frowned, "How can that be? Surely they also need Credits for stuff right?"

"Captain, you still don’t know just what kind of privilege the Nobles have in our society. They don’t need to work, they have no responsibilities to anyone else but themselves and Credits would just appear in their personal terminals just like that."

"Eh? Like magic? They can make Credits appear out of thin air?"

"No, Captain... The UTG basically pays them in the name of ’protection’. Companies also pay them just to be associated with them so they quite literally just get paid to exist. Which is why her offering that associate status is actually a rather good deal because normally, people would have to pay the nobles just to get that status. Yet now she is offering that to you just for doing a single job."

"I’m guessing having that status is a pretty big deal?"

Mara nodded, "Within the Inner Colonies, yes. Not so much in the Outer Colonies."

Lea tilted her head, "What is so special about it?"

"Within the Inner Colonies, you would basically be treated as someone who is working for a Noble. I’m talking about VIP treatments, immunity to a lot of laws, and also exclusive access to different services that would be restricted to the upper class."

Yumiko nodded, "That’s something I’m familiar with too. There was one time an associate of a noble family wanted to visit a planet with hostile fauna and requested my unit to protect them, something that we don’t do under normal circumstances. We got directed to do it anyway."

"Huh... Basically if you have that status, it’s a free pass to be an obnoxious asshole?" I asked.

Mara chuckled, "Ufufufu~ I would say that is a pretty accurate description, actually. Since most of the people who possess that status get drunk on that power and end up being exactly that. Though they forget that they spent a fortune to obtain that status to begin with."

I tapped on my cheek thoughtfully as another question came to me, "Does this status apply to the entire company or just an individual person?"

"It’s an individual status, Captain. So it will only apply to you in this case. It could be said that you’ve won the lottery at this point."

Amber giggled, "Tera is indeed a really lucky one, isn’t it?"

I shrugged, "I guess I am pretty lucky considering I have all of you as my lovers."

Amber shuddered, "Oh~ You have no idea how much I’m holding back right now, Tera~"

I cleared my throat to change the topic, "Ahem... Anyway, I guess we might as well just go do what she wanted. She wanted us to disrupt some family’s attempt at cutting their family out from getting Exo-Knights from them, right? Do we even know who it is and where they are meeting?"

Mara tilted her head, "Did my cousin not tell you where they are?"

"Nope... All she did was tell me that there was someone from a rival family trying to get a certain company to sell exclusively to them and she wanted them to be stopped. She didn’t even tell me which family or which company they were supposed to be."

Mara sighed, "Typical of her... She’s the type of person who would expect you to know what she knows and leave out information because she thought that you should have known them without her telling you... You might want to send her a message to ask about it, Captain..."

Right... I guess that’s better than having to search around the station for them ourselves.

I did as Mara suggested and used my Codex to send a message to Eleanor, having exchanged contacts with her earlier as a way to let her know if I had managed to complete her request or not.

I didn’t even need to wait long before a reply was received and I opened it to see just a single ’here’ word in the message.

Attached was a screenshot of a message that showed the address of where I assumed was the place that they were going to meet at as well as the time the meeting was taking place.

Sent alongside that were also two pictures which I assumed were the representative of the company and the noble family that I was meant to disrupt.

That was when I realised two things...

First, one of the pictures showed Barak, the person who tried to sell Ries and I an Exo-Knight from his company but got roasted by Ries for making bad designs. I’m surprised that they were being contacted by another Noble Family for this since last I remembered... They were only operating in the Outer Colonies.

Secondly... The meeting was supposed to happen today in less than half an hour’s time... And the location is supposed to be a fair distance away from here.

Really? Can we even do this before they seal the deal?

"Can we make it?" I asked, showing the map to the girls.

My girls crowded around my Codex before they took a step back to look at each other.

Amber turned to me, "If it’s just running there normally... We would probably not make it... But..."

She hesitated at the last part so I nodded for her to go ahead.

"If you were to fly there at your fastest speed... I think you should be able to make it, Tera."

"Wouldn’t that be really conspicuous, though?" I pointed out.

As if responding to that question, Renata moved up from my chest and gave me a face mask that covered the bottom part of my face while a hood also appeared over my head to hide my hair.

"Ehehehe~ Now no one can tell that it’s you, Daddy!" She giggled.

"That’s not what I was worried about," I pointed out, my voice surprisingly not muffled by the face mask. "I was wondering that I would draw quite a bit of attention if people were to see me flying like that, right?" 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞

Amber giggled, "Ehehehe~ Tera, did you forget? There’s literally a Noble Family living in the same hotel as us. If someone were to see a person flying overhead, they would think that it’s probably a member of that Noble Family instead."

"Do people even know that they are even here? I would assume that only people who saw them arrive would know that they are here..."

"It doesn’t matter, Tera. If someone were to ask, they would eventually find out about the Nobles being here anyway so they would make that obvious conclusion. Anyway... I think you should really get going right now if you don’t want to miss it."

I looked at the time and there was just seven minutes left before the meeting time, and that’s assuming they didn’t start early.

Ok, ok! I’m going now!

I didn’t wait and shot off up into the air, flying in the direction of the meeting place.

Let’s just get this done and over with.
