What Do You Mean I'm The Captain Of A Yandere Mercenary Company?-Chapter 779: Why Are They After You?

I dropped Barak on the ground and pushed him into the shadows of the building to make sure he was hidden from view.

He raised up his arms in a panic, "Wait! Wait! Please don’t kill me!"

I reached up and pulled down my mask, revealing my face to him.

"Calm down, it’s me."

He blinked before he tilted his head to the side, "Umm... Sorry but... Do I know you?"

"We met at the exhibition. You were trying to sell us the Exo-Knight and we told you how bad of a design it was."

He gasped, "Oh! Yes! I rem--"

I covered his mouth with my hand and hissed at him, "Quiet, you! We’re still not fully out of the danger yet!"

As though to prove my point, one of the bikers flew past the area above us, the thug looking around the area before flying out of view.

Thankfully, we weren’t spotted and I pushed him behind a few boxes so that we were hidden better.

I checked the time, confirming that it was early evening so the station should be darkening its interior soon to simulate night time.

That should give us better cover though I think we could still make use of the current crowd to slip out of here as well, depending on how things go.

"First things first," I asked, turning my attention back to him. "Do you know why they are after you?"

"E... Eh? Umm... I know that I was contacted about making a business deal and I was told to meet someone on the roof of that building... When I got there, there’s this group of people wearing suits and they were telling me that I should negotiate with my boss to sell all the rights of the company over to them..."

I frowned, "They wanted your boss to turn over the entire company to them?"

"That’s right... I thought it was ridiculous too and told them so... But that’s when they pulled out their weapons on me and told me if I didn’t do that, they would just kill me anyway..."

"I’m surprised that they didn’t just go ahead and find your boss directly and came after you instead."

He grimaced, "I did overhear that it was simply because I was more accessible because I was already here... So they could use me as a hostage if they need to..."

"Yikes... Then what happened after that?"

That’s when those people in Power Armours showed up... I thought they were here to save me but they also started demanding the same thing from me while telling the other group to stand down."

"What about the other two groups?"

"They came right after that... First was the entire group of thugs on their flying bikes surrounding us before the armoured car came flying in as well and even fired a warning shot on the roof... I was so sure that they would start fighting and I would be caught up in the crossfire had you not shown up! Ah! I just realised I’ve yet to thank you! Thank you for saving me!!"

"Right... Just saying, I also have my own plans for you but you really don’t know why they might be after your company?"

He shook his head, "They did not tell me anything about that... Maybe my boss knows but I doubt he’d tell someone like me..."

Hmm... I wonder if he would tell me instead? Though that’s even assuming he knows about this himself.

Barak then gave me a worried look, "So... What kind of plans do you have for me? Umm... You’re not going to ask me to do the same thing, are you?"

I waved at him, "Relax, that’s not what I’m after. Although I will just tell you that I was paid by someone who also seem to have a vested interest in you, or more specifically, your company."

He shuddered, "I’m just a sales rep... Why am I being dragged into this? What do they want from me?"

"I don’t know but basically they told me that there was a group of people who were interested in making a deal with you and that I was supposed to go there and stop this deal from happening at all cost."

He perked up, "Oh! So you were sent to rescue me after all?"

"You can say that if it makes you feel better I suppose."

"What do you mean?"

"My client never mentioned that keeping you alive was mandatory."

He only needed a moment to understand the implications of that and his face fell almost immediately.

I ignored him in favour of looking around the skies above to check if the coast was clear before turning back to him.

"Alright... Do you have a way out of here? Or do you need to stay in this station for some other reason?" I asked.

"Eh? Umm... I don’t think I can leave this place yet since I have yet to receive instructions from my boss to do so..."

"My guy, your life is literally in danger right now you know? Don’t you think it’s a little pointless to worry about something like that?"

He hesitated before pulling up his personal terminal, "Let me just contact him to let him know what’s going on... But for now, I think I can just hide in my hotel..."

"Where are you staying?"

"Near the exhibition centre. If you can drop me there, I can make my own way out."

"Fair enough."

I waited for him as he typed a message into his terminal before hitting the send button.

"Ready to go? We can’t stay here forever," I told him.

He nodded, "Let’s go. I’ll be right behind you."

I shook my head, "You’re mistaken... I’m not risking you moving too slow when I need you to move faster so you’re going to have to accept this."

He opened his mouth to ask me what I meant but I didn’t give him the chance to as I simply picked him up and draped him over my shoulder before I started running, using my ’jetpack’ for boosts of speed whenever I needed to.

The main danger for me was the biker gang because there were just so many of them and they were using their numbers to cover as much ground as possible.

We had to stop a few times when some of the bikers flew overhead but it wasn’t really that hard since there were multiple buildings that we could use as cover.

My current plan was to bring him back to where my girls were or at least out of this district where these guys were searching for him.

Eventually, I managed to reach the end of the street and I chanced a look behind to see that no one was following us and those guys were still searching around the area of the city.

Still, I wasn’t going to slow down here and I went a little bit further with the guy still slung over my shoulder.

As I was nearing the edge of the district, a sudden whining sound came from above and I looked up to see the armoured car literally shimmering into existence above me, one of its spotlights trained on me.

What the heck?! That thing could turn itself invisible?! No wonder I didn’t see it around!! I thought it had given up but apparently they had been waiting for me to appear before revealing themselves all this time?!

I looked up just as the turrets the people on board were manning turned towards me.

I was just about to take off into the air again when the entire armoured car was suddenly pushed back like something had shoved itself against the vehicle.

"What is this thing doing here thinking it can block my way?" A voice boomed out from around us.

Everyone turned to look at the source of the voice, finding a woman dressed in green and purple robes floating up in the air with her arm outstretched.

Oh... Hi Eleanor... I’m not sure if you were here by chance or you actually came here to help me but... I appreciate you all the same!

I watched as she flicked her hand at the armoured car and the entire vehicle got flipped upside down.

As though she was offended by the vehicle’s existence, she started shaking her hand back and forth to toss the people inside it around like she was shaking a can of beans. None of them even dared to shoot before she threw it telekinetically into the distance.

The entire vehicle flipped through the air and crashed into some of the bikers that had been unfortunate enough to be in its flight path and sent them spiralling down towards the streets before exploding in a giant fireball.

This was precisely what I wanted to avoid happening but well... What am I supposed to say to a Noble?

I just hope there weren’t a lot of casualties from that and quickly rushed out of the district with Barak still tossed over my shoulder.

I chanced a look up at Eleanor and I saw her looking in my direction, clueing me in that she had intentionally done this to help me and didn’t just do it by chance.

For her to go out of her way just to help me with this... I guess this guy was more important than I thought?
