Chapter 835: We Can Use Them

I stared at the dead body, needing a moment to register what had happened in my mind.

Looking around, it seems like no one else was even surprised by what had happened, though some did look away in disgust at the death but that was all the reaction they gave to someone being killed right in front of them.

Ok... So people just getting shot here isn’t something to worry about? Or is it because of the circumstances?

Still... The only thing I could think of is that it was such a waste that the guy just died like that... I would say that was too good of a fate.

As soon as I thought about that, a group of people suddenly ran forward with a stretcher of sorts and they injected the corpse with something before they sprayed the foam around the bullet hole to cover it up.

No one stopped them as they lifted the corpse onto the stretcher and carried him out without a word.

Rosalia then turned to the rest of the thieves who were still standing at where they were, none of them showing surprise at what had just transpired either.

"Who damaged the ship?! No... Whose idea was it to tear up the ship?!" 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦

Surprisingly, someone actually stepped forward, this one being one of the female researchers.

Rosalia growled at her, "Karen? I thought better from you. The fact that you are already standing there is already a fucking disgrace and you thought it would be a great idea to destroy what might be the only remaining Verlandi... Do you even have anything to say for yourself?"

The woman that was aptly named Karen stammered, "I... I did not wan--"

Rosalia didn’t even let her finish her words before she fired the gun in her hand, shooting a bullet right into her colleague’s abdomen.

The researcher let out a cry and fell over to the ground on her knees, clutching at her abdomen.

Surprisingly, she doesn’t seem too worried about the wound as she immediately grabbed onto Rosalia’s legs and started pleading.

"Please! No!! Don’t turn me!! I am sorry!! I will do anything!! I’m not even the leader of this!! I just did what I had to to--"

Rosalia shot her through the side of her head without blinking, the corpse of the woman dropping onto the ground with a soft thud.

Once again, another group of people also rushed forward to do the exact same thing that they did to the first guy who got shot.

They also plugged the hole in her abdomen as well before she was carried away and Rosalia finally turned her attention back to me.

Unlike the usual active and jumpy bunny futa that I have come to know, she looked absolutely serious and composed, almost like she had switched places with Freiderike.

Not that Freiderike had suddenly started jumping around like Rosalia, mind you...

"Miss Tera... What do you wish to do with the other thieves? Since you are the wronged party, we will let you decide their fates."

Actually... Right now, I’m more curious about the fate of those two that were carried away... Where did they take them? Were they going to cremate them or something? Did they move them away immediately because the corpse would contaminate the station or something?

And why did that Karen woman say ’turn’ instead of ’kill’? That doesn’t even make any sense...

Still... I decided that I would ask that when I wasn’t surrounded by all the other staff members and instead nodded at Rosalia.

"What would be the normal course of action to take if left in the company’s hands?"

She answered my question without missing a beat, "In this case, their employment with us would be terminated and all of their assets would be taken away to pay for the damages that they have caused before being banished to the Outer Colonies."

Oh wow, just for something like this? I would assume that if my ship was just any other ship and not the Verlandi, they would probably just need to pay for the damages and everything will be fine.

But for them to actually be banished out of the Inner Colonies? That’s practically a death sentence for these people.

And I’m just going to say... That’s way too good of a fate.

I mean... Their fate would just be that they die in a ditch somewhere and then their suffering ends. What’s so good about that?

That’s why...

I raised a hand to indicate Rosalia should wait while I activated my Codex in preparation to call up Ries.

But before I hit the call button, I paused to look up at the crowd, "Do they all need to be here?"

Friederike immediately turned to them, "Don’t you all have work to do?! If you aren’t needed here, get back to your stations!!"

The crowd slowly dispersed, clearly not wanting to leave but having no choice but to do so since their boss ordered them to do so.

There were still a few people who hung around but they stayed out of earshot from us, namely the security team and a few more of those people who were carrying stretchers just like the two groups of people who carried the corpses away.

Now that everyone else was gone, I tapped on the call button to ring up Ries.

It only took her a single ring before the call was answered, my Maochatte looking quite solemn inside her workshop inside the ship.

I think the person who was most upset at the thieves was Ries. In fact, she had also been against the plan of letting them steal the ship at the start since she correctly predicted that they would end up damaging the ship if they did so.

But when the idea that she would be able to refurbish and upgrade the ship with the prospect of having unlimited resources to do so to boot... She switched her stance really quickly.

After all, what really made the ship special wasn’t really the interior design to begin with so we could just refurbish the interior without much problems as long as the layout stays the same.

Which means we could change the bedframes and the mattress of the bed and no one would care that we did.

Except... Maybe the die hard fans who only like the original variant I suppose.

For us though, we focus more on practicality so we don’t really care. The ship isn’t a museum art piece but an actual tool that was meant to be used after all.

So even if it’s a little different from the original after this... It wouldn’t matter.

And if we really wanted to return it back to the original... Renata has a record of every single detail about the original design and would be able to fabricate the parts to install them again if we wanted to so there’s no problem even in that department.

I let out a dramatic sigh, "Give me the news, Ries..."

She hesitated for a moment before letting out a sigh of her own, "It’s going to be expensive, Boss... The parts that need to be replaced... I don’t think they’re in production anymore... Which means we would need to make them from scratch... And the damaged parts... I think it would be easier to just replace them at this point and that’s also going to be expensive..."

"I see... But it’s at least possible to repair it, right?"

"It’s going to take a while, Boss... Especially if I had to get all the materials to fabricate the replacement parts... I don’t know how long this will take... The current fabricators I have also aren’t good enough to make the materials I need... The ship might not be usable for a while..."

Right then, Theresa butted in, "The company will pay and arrange for everything you need, Miss Tera!! Just let us know what you need and we will obtain it for you!"

That was music to my ears.

I nodded at Theresa as thanks before turning back to Ries, careful to keep my composure and making sure my true thoughts did not show on my face.

"Did you hear that, Ries? Would that help?"

She clasped her hands together, "That would definitely help, Boss! But... Ah... I also need some manpower to help work on making the materials I need... But it’s a delicate and rather dangerous process so... Perhaps some manpower will help?"

Hmm? I don’t believe this was part of the plan but I read between the lines and understood what she wanted.

I nodded at Rosalia, "I don’t suppose we can put these people to work?"

The bunny futa immediately nodded her head, "Use them however you like. We will also be putting the debt on them as well to pay off. Feel free to work them to death as well if it suits you, Miss Tera."

Wow... That’s a bit harsh don’t you think?

But I guess at least we’ve fulfilled our goals here.
