When system cheat becomes rampant!-Chapter 1352 - 865: Protector (Part 2)
"Why didn’t I see this just now in the Chaotic Zone?" Xiang Beifei asked.
"This is the way the Edge Corner Airspace exists; it exists within the reverse laws. The entire world is reversed relative to the Chaotic Zone. You can understand it this way—the Chaotic Zone is a place without order, where logic doesn’t connect. In contrast, the Edge Corner Airspace is a place of order and logical consistency. They are two completely opposite worlds, so the Edge Corner Airspace exists on the reverse side of the Chaotic Zone."
"That’s how it’s understood?"
Xiang Beifei found it quite novel.
He could apply the reverse Heavenly Dao laws, but he never knew what the Edge Corner Airspace looked like. He just knew it was boundless, endless, and that no matter what, one couldn’t reach the edge of the world.
So before, it was hard for him to understand what [World’s Edge] meant.
But now he understood a bit.
Just like a piece of paper that has a front, it must have a back.
The World’s Edge is the reverse side of the world!
"This bubble looks like it could burst with just a poke; is it really that safe?" Erha asked.
"This is the duty of the Heavenly Dao Guardian."
The mysterious woman looked at the world ahead, paused for a moment, then said, "Those rays of light are various Heavenly Dao laws, protecting this world, keeping chaos at bay. But they are often attacked by Withered Spirits at the End. The Withered Spirits at the End will seek vulnerabilities in the Heavenly Dao laws and break through them. We need to do our best to drive away these Withered Spirits at the End, ensuring the Heavenly Dao laws aren’t broken."
"Why do those screaming creatures on the other side of the world attack us?" Xiaohei asked, puzzled.
"They dislike orderly places, but they love the various things born in an orderly world. To them, anything born within the world of Heavenly Dao laws is a tonic—especially the practitioners from the races born under various Heavenly Dao laws—they are delicious food," said the mysterious woman.
The duty of the Protectors is to prevent the Withered Spirits at the End from breaking through the protection of the Heavenly Dao laws and destroying everything within the Edge Corner Airspace.
"How many Protectors are there?" Xiang Beifei asked.
"At the beginning of the world’s birth, to ensure the world could be peacefully orderly, each Heavenly Dao law created would come with a practitioner race that must protect this Heavenly Dao law. Therefore, every race must have a Protector guarding the edge of the World’s End," the mysterious woman explained.
"Wouldn’t there be billions of Protectors then?" Xiang Beifei asked in surprise.
With his current understanding of [Two Births Three], Xiang Beifei was very familiar with the Heavenly Dao laws in the world.
Each Heavenly Dao law has a practitioner race, which means in ancient times, there would have been billions of practitioner races.
However, there aren’t that many races in the Edge Corner Airspace now; many races have already perished.
"Billions, how come we haven’t felt their presence?" Erha mumbled.
The mysterious woman was silent for a moment before saying, "These Protectors are spread across every corner of the World’s End, but many Protectors might have sacrificed themselves in resistance against the Withered Spirits at the End; I can’t be certain either."
"The Protectors are really great," Xiaohei said.
"We’re just fulfilling our duty. Protecting this world’s Heavenly Dao laws and everything in it is your and my responsibility. I’m telling you these things so that you may become a competent Protector," the mysterious woman said.
Xiang Beifei frowned and said, "I’m not here to be a Protector."
"You’re not here to be a Protector?" The mysterious woman seemed a bit surprised.
"I thought you knew what I came here for," Xiang Beifei said.
"Why would you think so?" the mysterious woman asked.
"Because you said you saw me yesterday!"
"I did see you yesterday, but having stayed at the World’s End for so long, I never assume that the you from yesterday is still the you I knew. It’s been my principle to treat people with fresh eyes after not seeing them for three days. I thought you had already understood your mission to come here to fulfill the duty of a Protector," the mysterious woman said.
"I’m not." Xiang Beifei replied.
"That’s strange."
"What’s strange?" Xiang Beifei asked.
"Because I thought you were a Protector," the mysterious woman said.
"You thought so? Speaking of which, since you’re a Protector, why did you go to find Professor Zhao Ruizhong ten years ago—or yesterday—for what reason, you helped him and said I had the scent of Mustard Seed in Palm on me, are you from the Human Race?" Xiang Beifei asked.
"I forgot." The mysterious woman shook her head.
"Forgot? You just saw me yesterday, and now you forgot?" Xiang Beifei was a bit bewildered.
How could someone be so perfunctory?
The mysterious woman was silent for a moment, then said, "A Protector wouldn’t return to Edge Corner Airspace unless absolutely necessary. I must have returned for some reason, but I can’t remember why."
"Why can’t you remember?"
"I might have been injured," the mysterious woman said.
"Injured? Are you not sure if you’re injured or not?"
"Corrupted by the primordial power of chaos, the chaotic power is too complex. It can’t be said to be an injury; it might take my life, or it might slowly erode me. I even forgot when I first touched the power of the primordial," the mysterious woman said.
The power of the primordial!
Again, the power of the primordial!
Xiang Beifei’s grandfather was also hurt by the power of the primordial, and he didn’t know how his grandfather got hurt.
"I didn’t come here to be a Protector; I’m here to rescue my grandfather. He was also injured by the power of the primordial and is now in a coma!" Xiang Beifei said.
"Your grandfather? Is your grandfather also a Protector?"
"A Protector? Probably not; he doesn’t quite seem like a Protector."
"If he’s not a Protector, how would he be injured by the power of the primordial? The power of the primordial only exists at the World’s End," the mysterious woman said.
"You’ve stumped me," Xiang Beifei replied, "If I knew, I wouldn’t have to be fumbling around here,"
In Xiang Beifei’s perspective, Protectors should be very powerful beings. His grandfather, while very formidable, was injured when besieged by over a dozen Ancestral Dao Realm experts in the Common Valley last time.
Normally, those able to safeguard the Heavenly Dao laws should be able to deal with Ancestral Dao Realm experts.
But Xiang Beifei suddenly had a thought that seemed incorrect.
If his grandfather had come to the World’s End, could it be due to being affected by the power of the primordial, which is why he couldn’t defeat those minor opponents?
"You came here to find answers," the mysterious woman said.
"More or less, I want to find the first Heavenly Dao law, as it might manage the power of the primordial," Xiang Beifei said.
"I can’t help you with that," the mysterious woman said.
"Can you tell me who I should find? Would that person work?"
Xiang Beifei pointed to an immobile, withered old man on the other side.
"He might know the answer, but I don’t know if you can approach him as he has his own guarding duties," the mysterious woman said.
"Can I go ask him? Can you guide me there?" Xiang Beifei asked.
The mysterious woman hesitated for a moment, then said, "You can try."
She turned and led Xiang Beifei toward where the withered old man was. The distance between them wasn’t actually far, just over twenty meters, but approaching that twenty-meter distance wasn’t easy.
"Are you really not here to become a Protector?" The mysterious woman seemed unwilling to give up and asked again.
"No, I’m just here to save my grandfather," Xiang Beifei replied.
The mysterious woman seemed somewhat disappointed.
Xiang Beifei thought for a moment, feeling he shouldn’t let her down, so he said, "By the way, I still don’t know your name. A Protector should have a name; I’m called Xiang Beifei, and you?"
"My last name is Yu," the mysterious woman said, "My name is Yu Tinglian."
Plop!
Xiang Beifei reacted instinctively, jumping up and almost stumbled, nearly falling over.
He looked at the mysterious woman in astonishment and asked, "What did you just say your name was?"
