Chapter 49: Chapter 49: Chi Mo 3

The director asked cautiously, "So, have you worked through your feelings? Our show is a romance..."

"Of course," Tan You said with a slight smile. "Two years is enough time to forget someone. He was just a passerby in my life. I’m doing very well without him."

"I also know this is a romance show, but in the end, it all comes down to fate. I’ll just treat it as a chance to make some friends."

When the interview finally ended, Tan You gathered her coat, ready to leave. Just as she stood up, the director suddenly said, "The official recording starts the day after tomorrow. Every guest needs to bring an item from their past marriage. Don’t forget, Momo."

Tan You furrowed her brow. "Do I have to bring something? I’ve already returned everything that belonged to him. Now, besides my memories, I have nothing of his."

"Nothing at all?" the director asked.

"No," Tan You said decisively. "I’m the type of person who makes clean breaks. Once we’ve split up, I hope we never cross paths again for the rest of our lives. It’s best if we don’t appear in each other’s lives at all."

"The production team would still prefer it if you could bring an object from your past relationship," the director said.

Tan You replied reluctantly, "I’ll go home and look for something."

After finishing the recording for the pilot episode, Tan You left the television station. The show was set to officially start filming the day after tomorrow, so she had to go back and get everything ready. For example, what to pack for the trip, whether to bring some common medicines, and so on.

Tan You wasn’t putting all her energy into the show, however. She had more important things to do, namely, continuing Chi Mo’s dance career. For the past few days, she had been familiarizing herself with Chi Mo’s dance fundamentals and trying to replicate dances she had seen before.

The thought of replicating those soul-stirring performances she had once witnessed filled Tan You with a long-lost sense of excitement. Bringing the glorious art she had once experienced into this world gave her a thrill.

Another day of practice in the dance studio left her drenched in sweat. Tan You collapsed onto the floor, panting slightly. "Dancing is so hard."

’She had seen these dances before, yet she still found it incredibly difficult to replicate them. It made her appreciate the professional artists who worked as choreographers. Clearly, some things were best left to the experts.’

The Beauty System had become much more active in this world. "Host, you’re already doing very well."

"It’s not enough. Far from it," Tan You said, pushing herself up from the floor. "You’ve seen those dances too. How far off do you think I am from the originals? If we were scoring it, I’d barely get a passing grade."

The Beauty System fell silent. It clearly knew Tan You’s assessment was spot-on.

"I’ll practice it a couple more times. The variety show will be filming for three months anyway, so I can use that time to slowly hone my skills." Tan You got up and moved to the center of the dance studio to practice again.

Halfway through her practice, the door to the studio was pushed open, and a slender figure walked in. The newcomer stood by the door, watching Tan You practice over and over again in the room.

"Here, have some warm water." Just as Tan You sat down on the floor, exhausted, a cup of warm water was handed to her.

"Teacher Wen, when did you get here?" Tan You looked up at the newcomer and couldn’t help but smile. "Please, have a seat. I can’t even lift a finger right now."

"I heard you signed up for a romance variety show. I originally thought you weren’t planning to dance anymore." Teacher Wen sat down beside Tan You. "But when I saw you dancing just now, I knew my worries were for nothing. You are a dancer with exceptional Spiritual Energy. It would be a shame not to continue down this path."

Tan You took a sip of water. "I won’t give up this career. Besides, I wasn’t the one who signed up for the show. My mom did it for me. If I don’t go, I’ll have to pay a hefty penalty for breaking the contract."

Teacher Wen said, "Then you should go and see what it’s like. Is this a new dance you’ve choreographed? I can see your movements are still a bit raw, but I can already tell... it’s breathtaking."

Tan You nodded. "Yes. I haven’t perfected it yet; it still needs a lot of polishing. I estimate that by the time I get back from the show, this dance will be completely finished."

"I’m looking forward to it," Teacher Wen said, patting Tan You’s shoulder. "Keep up the good work. If you have any questions, you can come find me."

Tan You immediately felt as light as a feather. She scrambled to her feet. "Teacher Wen, I have so many questions..."

As someone who was diligent and eager to learn, Tan You rarely passed up an opportunity to learn from an expert. So, she pulled Teacher Wen aside and asked her a ton of questions. Even if Teacher Wen looked a little strict, would Tan You really be intimidated by that?

"You know, you seem much more composed than before." After being roped into practicing with Tan You for the whole afternoon, Teacher Wen wasn’t displeased at all. On the contrary, she felt that the Chi Mo of today was far more mature, no longer like the little girl she used to be.

’Perhaps this was the price of growing up.’

"You overdid it a bit today. You should find a physical therapist tonight to help you relax, or you’ll wake up sore all over tomorrow morning." Teacher Wen leaned against the barre, a rare smile on her face.

"I know. The thought of leaving for the romance show tomorrow... I really don’t want to go." Tan You lay on the floor ungracefully. "But the penalty fee is really high. My family can’t afford it."

Teacher Wen laughed. "Then just treat it like a vacation. Broaden your horizons. It’ll benefit your choreography in the long run."

"As for the romance show," she said with a shrug, "how many couples who participate actually end up together? It’s all just scripts, isn’t it? Even if they do get together, pitifully few make it all the way."

"You’re truly perceptive," Tan You said, rolling over. "That’s why I’m just going to treat it as a bit of fun. I have no intention of coupling up with anyone on the show anyway."

"When I was filming the pilot episode yesterday, the director even asked me what kind of person I was looking for."

Seeing the smile on Tan You’s face, Teacher Wen grew curious. "What did you say?"

Tan You narrowed her eyes. "It was simple. I just listed all the requirements men have for women."

Teacher Wen mulled it over. "Well-behaved, sensible, and doesn’t cause drama? Virtuous and kind?"

"Uh-huh, something like that," Tan You said, her smile growing brighter. "Someone who sees the big picture, doesn’t cause drama, and doesn’t compete for attention."

Teacher Wen paused for a moment, then burst out laughing. "Nice. Now I’m actually interested in this show you’re on. Tell me when it airs. I’ll be sure to watch every single episode."

"But once your show airs, I bet you’ll have plenty of people asking you to act. You’re truly beautiful."

Tan You said, "I’ll pass on the entertainment industry. It’s enough for a person to do one thing well in their lifetime. Since I’ve chosen dance, I’m going to see it through to the end."

Teacher Wen patted Tan You’s shoulder. "Good. I look forward to it."

After going for a spa treatment with Teacher Wen, Tan You didn’t get back to Chi Mo’s small apartment until dusk. The original Chi Mo had a driver’s license, but Tan You did not.

In Han Tingting’s world, it was Han Tingting who had gotten her own license; Tan You had never touched a steering wheel in her entire life. So, even with Chi Mo’s memories, Tan You didn’t dare to drive on her own. It was a matter of being responsible to others and to herself.

’Speaking of which, should I make some time to get a driver’s license?’
