When Will My Childhood Sweetheart Marry Me?-Chapter 232: Wolf’s Den
Jiang Shuyao was just about to pull out her phone to call Old Jiang when a large hand suddenly appeared at the back of her neck, hoisting her into the room across the way.
"Hey, let go! What would it look like if my parents saw?" She struggled and protested, her hands clinging to the door frame, causing both of them to freeze at the entrance.
"Listen, Princess," Pei Yan said with a smile in his eyes, "since you’re homeless, stop being stubborn."
Who said she was homeless.
Jiang Shuyao’s face turned red. This position was really uncomfortable, feeling like all the blood in her body was rushing into her head, about to explode.
"Hurry up and let go, don’t make yourself suffer." The person coaxed her gently, stroking her hair repeatedly, like petting an animal.
She didn’t want to be any pet, especially not for such a perverted owner. She would surely not survive three days under his torment.
Now this room felt familiar yet strange, with layers of strangeness revealing schemes, and schemes revealing debauchery; it was just... a living wolf’s den.
Before the little white bunny was carried into the wolf’s den, there was often a period of self-hypnosis. She would fantasize that this was just a dream.
Or comfort herself—just let it be, die sooner to transcend sooner; in ten years, she would be a hero again.
But the moment her feet touched the ground and her brain spun into dizziness, the big gray wolf nonchalantly dropped six words and left no further explanation: "Go take a shower, sleep early."
Her: "..."
Jiang Shuyao covered her burning face. Was she being delusional?
Before her thoughts could progress, the person who turned to enter the bedroom suddenly came back, lifted a strand of hair behind her ear, and sniffed, "There’s a new bottle in the bathroom, use that one."
"What for."
Pei Yan tossed her a look, "I like it."
"..." Like your grandpa.
So nosy.
Speechless, Jiang Shuyao stood in front of her suitcase for a while, then crouched down to find a conservative pajama set, holding it as she went straight into the guest room.
After entering, she locked the door.
After tidying up, it was nearly midnight. Jiang Shuyao was so tired that she almost fell asleep as soon as her head hit the pillow.
The night passed without incident.
Only the next morning she discovered she had moved from the guest room to the master bedroom.
The person next to her was still asleep, breathing softly—a peaceful sleeping face that looked utterly harmless, as if the actions of unlocking the door the previous night and carrying her over were as trivial as could be.
This routine continued for three days.
Every night, Jiang Shuyao would enter the guest room, and the next day, she would wake up in the big bed of the master bedroom.
Somebody seemed addicted to the nightly routine of moving her back and forth, endlessly amused.
At first, she was quite cautious. Whenever she heard the key turning at the door, she kept her guard up. Later, seeing that Pei Yan behaved properly, simply holding her after putting her down with no suspicious intentions, she gradually let her guard down and drifted off to sleep.
On the fourth night.
After Jiang Shuyao finished bathing, she discovered Pei Yan still sitting on the couch watching TV.
Indeed, he was seriously watching a program.
Normally at home, besides coding, it was more coding. Even before, no matter how bored he was, he wouldn’t turn to the cable channels. At worst, he’d just play games on his phone.
Out of curiosity, she walked over and glanced at the screen.
Animal World...?
And it was, unexpectedly, a silent comedy.
Jiang Shuyao picked up the remote to turn on the sound, admiring him, "Can’t hear anything and yet you’re watching so intently, impressive."
Pei Yan didn’t speak, not even moving his eyeballs.
She was astonished for two seconds, until a deeply evocative narration from her childhood memories came from the television.
"Spring has arrived, all things come to life, and it’s mating season on the vast prairies; males begin to display their strength in front of females..."
Jiang Shuyao paused slightly, somehow subconsciously wanting to see the expression of the person on the sofa.
Once she looked, her eyes were fixed and unable to move away.
She had never seen such an expression on that guy’s face before.
Lonely, desolate, weathered.
Even carrying a hint of a plea to be noticed.
It was somewhat like the precursor to depression.
Jiang Shuyao was startled by her own thoughts. How could that be? It was too outrageous.
She turned around and went back to the bedroom; however, when she reached the doorway, she suddenly stopped in her tracks.
To the left was the master bedroom, to the right was the guest room.
Typically, she should head to the right.
But her body seemed to be slightly out of her brain’s control, and countless voices inside her head echoed, Pei Yan is so pitiable, so lonely, was she being too indifferent? She had already given her heart to him, why still put on airs?
And considering his performance in the past few nights, it had not been as she imagined... hard to say, anyway, he was her boyfriend, she shouldn’t treat him like a thief.
Jiang Shuyao mentally prepared herself and without further hesitation, walked into the master bedroom very naturally.
After waiting for more than an hour, Pei Yan still hadn’t come in.
Staring at the pitch-black ceiling and having tossed and turned countless times on the bed, she took a deep breath, sat up, and threw off the covers.
Was Animal World really that interesting?
Listening carefully, it seemed there were no sounds outside the door.
Jiang Shuyao got out of bed, put on her shoes, opened the bedroom door and stepped out. The TV screen was dark, and only a wall lamp was lit in the living room; the sofa was empty.
She turned towards the study, peered through the crack of the door, and sure enough, there sat a figure in front of the computer.
The rhythmic tapping of the keyboard carried the vibrant beat of life in this quiet night; every character he typed under his slender fingers was the most beautiful melody to her ears.
Jiang Shuyao stood at the doorway, unable to help but smile knowingly. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
Half an hour later, she brought in a cup of hot milk and placed it beside Pei Yan’s desk.
He was over-focused, and it wasn’t until the steam from the milk fogged up the computer screen and the tapping paused that he finally turned his head to look over.
Pei Yan looked quite spirited; his gaze fell on her face, "Haven’t you slept?"
Having not spoken for a long time, his voice sounded a bit hoarse.
"Can’t sleep," Jiang Shuyao said as she reached for the milk. "Drink this and then go to sleep. You often staying up late can disturb your endocrine system, and it might lead to insomnia later on."
Pei Yan smiled, naturally wrapped his arms around her waist, pulled her onto his lap, and with his other hand hit a shortcut key to adjust the program.
Jiang Shuyao stared at the content on the screen for a while, "Has the base taken on a new project?"
"Not really," he took the cup, unaccustomed to drinking such things after a long time, the first sip was a bit unbearable. "Old Man Jiang knows an investor, and the person handed directly over a design blueprint, asking if I was interested."
Old Man Jiang hadn’t mentioned it before; the day he finished the competition, he had directly lured him to a dinner, and out of respect for Old Man Jiang, he had provisionally agreed.
"This looks like it incorporates a game engine."
Jiang Shuyao, holding the mouse, quickly made out something.
"Yes, it’s a competitive mobile game," Pei Yan showed the hidden part and pulled up the Unity3D scripting language used throughout for her to see.
Previously, the base mostly dealt with websites or application-type apps.
This was their first encounter with a game.
But why did Teacher Jiang suddenly think of introducing an investor to Pei Yan?
