When Will My Childhood Sweetheart Marry Me?-Chapter 50 - 0: Why Do I Like Her?
The girl stood pertly behind his chair, especially when he saw the rolled-up scroll in her hand, the smile on his face could no longer be maintained.
As soon as Jiang Shuyao arrived, Chen Jin and his two friends eagerly greeted her to sit down, added some dishes, and even asked the boss to bring over another case of beer.
Pei Yan was surprised, but his mind wasn’t muddled.
He stretched out his leg under the table to kick Chen Jin and said lazily, "She drinks soda, what’s with the beer?"
"Damn, look at my brain," Chen Jin slapped his head in annoyance and quickly ran to the drink section, bringing back one of each type available.
On normal school days, Jiang Shuyao hardly had any interaction with Chen Jin’s trio.
She didn’t expect that this group of rich second-generation kids would be so easygoing.
The barbecue restaurant in front of her was shabbily decorated, and the alcohol was the cheapest sort, but they seemed truly down-to-earth as they ate heartily.
She lowered her lashes and said nothing, having no appetite for barbecue.
Jiang Shuyao sat next to Pei Yan holding the scroll, turning her head to quietly ask him, "How long do you think we’ll eat?"
If it was too late, her parents might head back, and with adults around, it would be difficult to bring up certain issues.
As if understanding her thoughts, Pei Yan glanced at her sideways, "There’s no telling, probably until the early hours of the morning."
Xu Kanfeng almost spat out his beer, "Brother Yan, spare me, please. If I don’t get home before midnight, my old man will definitely break my legs."
The other two had no one to answer to, so naturally, they didn’t object.
However, He Qingzhou noticed that his boss’s mention of early morning hours was deliberate. Something was off tonight, it seemed like Brother Yan didn’t want Sister Yao to continue staying here.
Early hours...
Jiang Shuyao definitely couldn’t wait until the early hours. After thinking, she said to him, "Pei Yan, I have something to tell you, it will only take a few minutes."
She meant for the two of them to move to another spot, considering there were others around.
Knowing he couldn’t escape tonight, Pei Yan stopped resisting and nodded in a resigned manner.
After the two left, Chen Jin asked his buddies in confusion, "What’s up with the boss? Even I can tell he’s feeling guilty."
He Qingzhou held a beer bottle in one hand, took a sip, then silently watched the distance for a while, his face showing a complex emotion, "It might have something to do with that painting."
"..."
After they exchanged puzzled looks, Chen Jin suddenly slapped the table excitedly, "Speaking of which, there’s drama between Brother Yan and Sister Yao tonight."
Heh.
He Qingzhou glanced at him, shook his head and smiled, "Not necessarily. Sometimes, the thoughts of a girl can be really inscrutable."
He wasn’t kidding; He Junshi really hit the nail on the head with this one.
Under a dim streetlight in the distance,
Jiang Shuyao got straight to the point, looking up into the boy’s pitch-black eyes.
She tried to appear calm, but her trembling voice still betrayed the ups and downs of her emotions, "You went skiing at Qingcheng Mountain over the weekend, that painting, it’s the one you won from the competition, isn’t it?"
Pei Yan knew he couldn’t hide it from her but didn’t expect her to find out so quickly. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
He didn’t keep up the front and looked at her calmly, answering with one word, "Yes."
A grown man owns up to what he’s done, and at this point, even God must be tired of his indecisiveness.
"No matter how precious the painting is, is it worth risking your life for? Pei Yan, what the hell are you thinking?" Jiang Shuyao closed her eyes and asked in a low voice.
Pei Yan smirked, a curve forming on his lips as he looked down into the girl’s eyes, which were filling with tender feelings, "The painting isn’t worth it, but the person is."
He lowered his voice and fixed his gaze on her face, "Yaoyao, you should understand what I’m saying."
As his words fell, the moisture under Jiang Shuyao’s lashes could no longer be held back and began to fall.
The girl’s tears slid down her cheeks and dropped onto the black scroll, causing a sharp pain to seize Pei Yan’s heart.
"What are you crying for? I’m standing right here, damn it, stop crying."
Jiang Shuyao pushed away his approaching body forcefully and shouted, "Do you think I’m crying because I’m touched? Pei Yan, you immature ghost, you big idiot."
"Why on earth do you like me? Because you’re the school bully? Because you’re tough in fights? Or because your life is cheap?"
By the end, Jiang Shuyao was crying uncontrollably.
Through her blurred vision, she threw the painting at Pei Yan and, wiping her tears with the back of her hand, turned and ran towards the gate of Yasong Residence.
