Chapter 249: Chapter 249: Good People, Good Deeds [Bonus]

"I lost."

The team leader stood up and said,

"So this is Seto Kaiba’s dueling? Truly flawless, worthy of being the number one duelist today. I am utterly convinced."

"As a duelist, you have some potential," Kaiba said. "A duel is about overwhelming force—your opponent shouldn’t even have the possibility to resist.

To achieve this, relying on just monsters, spells, or traps isn’t enough. Only by uniting all aspects does it have meaning.

After mastering these, there’s something even more important for a duelist—"

He gestured to his heart with a fist.

The team leader seemed to understand, then bowed deeply: "Thank you very much for your guidance, President. I’ll do my best to improve from now on."

"Since that guy has high hopes for you, don’t let him down," Kaiba said coolly.

"Yes, sir!"

After just a short exchange, the surrounding spectators were all deeply impressed by the legendary President Kaiba. His reputation was well-deserved, and meeting him in person was even more impressive than the rumors.

The atmosphere was quite harmonious, a classic scene of a master guiding his disciple—though if the disciple wasn’t a burly man in a Blue-Eyes White Dragon Maid outfit, maybe the vibe wouldn’t be so weird.

Their boss really has a twisted sense of humor.

At that moment, a burly man in white stockings came running from the back of the group and reported, "There’s a situation!"

"What is it?" the leader asked.

"Cops—there’s a squad heading our way, and it looks like they’re coming for us."

"Cops?" The leader frowned and cursed under his breath. "What a bunch of bloodhounds. They even managed to track us here?"

Cops? Does he mean the police?

Kira looked at Mokuba. "Didn’t you say they were all about good deeds?"

"That’s not what I said exactly," Mokuba replied. "I said they use dark powers to punish evil and uphold justice. But you know, sometimes upholding justice means crossing a few lines."

Kira thought about it. Out of ten superheroes, at least nine have tangled with law enforcement. It’s not unusual for justice and the law to conflict.

The burly man added, "They brought a whole convoy and even called in an armed helicopter. Boss, maybe we should hurry?"

Mokuba was shocked. "What did you do to get this kind of pursuit?"

"Oh, nothing much. Recently, a new casino opened in the city—everything looked legal on the surface, but we discovered the owner was a shadow game duelist."

The leader explained,

"They say you can win anything in that casino—not just wealth, but fame, beauty, luck, anything. But losers really lose everything. In the end, even their soul goes on the table, and if you lose, you become the property of the casino."

"A shadow game with gambling as the medium, huh?" Kira understood.

In Yu-Gi-Oh!, Duel Monsters is the most potent form of shadow games, but not the only one. The original work had all kinds of games, not just card games.

"Right. As more and more souls were taken by the casino, we took notice and decided to play the boss ourselves. We won, took him down, and freed all the souls he’d trapped."

"That sounds like a good deed," Mokuba said, puzzled. "So why are you wanted by the authorities?"

The leader scratched his head awkwardly. "Oh, before I left, I set the whole casino on fire. Just a habit. Turns out, the casino owner had people protecting him from higher up, so after the fire, we got wanted immediately."

Mokuba: "..."

Habit, huh? Sounds like a repeat offender. Probably done similar things before.

"Ah, don’t worry about it. Don’t let little things like this affect the President’s mood," the leader said, waving.

"Nakamura, Kitagawa, bring your people and follow me. The rest, keep escorting the President and his group to rest. We’ll lose those tailgaters in no time."

A whole convoy and a helicopter chasing them, but he sounded as relaxed as if they were just dealing with children asking for candy.

Kira couldn’t help but get curious about what shadow duelists were really capable of.

In the original, those with supernatural abilities tended to use more bizarre powers, especially psychic manipulation and illusions. If dark powers could make card effects real, that would mean even more abilities—weather control, elemental magic, energy projection, you name it.

Kira’s duel disk, obtained from AI Alpha, had similar functions, able to materialize holograms, but its power was limited by the duel disk’s output.

If only he could learn to use dark powers—or better yet, find a powerful dark artifact.

The Millennium Items were gone with the Pharaoh, and even if they weren’t, they picked their owners and carried risks. Not everyone could handle them—they were world-ending artifacts after all.

But a lower-tier artifact, maybe he could manage.

...

The remaining group soon arrived at their resting place. Mokuba quickly went to Kaiba’s room, and the brothers set up their computers and got busy.

Kira had nothing to do, but on the way, he’d noticed a local dueling arena down the street, which piqued his interest.

With nothing else to do, he decided to go warm up at the arena, see the local duelists, and maybe show off how the Duel Academy elites duel.

It was dinnertime, but since he’d eaten well on Kaiba’s plane, he wasn’t hungry. There happened to be a snack street nearby, so he thought he’d try some local specialties.

Before leaving, he asked Mokuba if he wanted to come, but Mokuba was busy typing away and declined.

It got dark early here, and by the time he went out, it was cold. The chill felt like needles against his skin. The streets were empty—no crowds, no cars, just silence.

The snack street was also deserted. The air felt frozen, even the wind seemed to be holding its breath, not daring to disturb the eerie stillness. Distant streetlights cast lonely, patchy shadows, making the empty street look even more desolate.

Something wasn’t right.

Kira realized that at once. It wasn’t late enough for the street to be empty—especially this street.

There was only one likely explanation.

He turned, unsurprised to see a figure behind him in the moonlight. The person was tall, with red hair, face half-covered, and eyes full of mischief.

"Fujiki Kira, student of Duel Academy, recognized by Seto Kaiba, even brought to this city by him."

The voice was distorted, as if through a voice changer.

The person raised their duel disk.

"I’d like to test myself against you. Is that alright?"
