Chapter 548: A More Special Surprise

Calix brought Leslie and Calliope to explore Whistling Creek after unpacking their suitcases. The entire bamboo lake forest was huge, leading them to rely on the shuttle cart to move around.

Calliope wore her pink bunny backpack which she put Mimo inside. The crochet fox toyโ€™s head peeked through the bag.

At first, the family of three had lunch at one of the restaurants outside the chalet area. They saw more people there, as family and friends visited the bamboo forest without staying at the chalet.

"Papa, where we going after eating?" asked the curious Calliope, her cheeks puffing from munching the roasted potatoes.

"How about we go rafting?" Calix mentioned one of the activities they could do at the bamboo lake forest. He glanced from Calliope to Leslie, "Have you tried it before?"

Leslie simply shook her head for the answer while Calliope asked what rafting was. Thus, Calix decided to proceed with the plan.

The family of three simply strolled from the restaurant to the bamboo rafting area. The crisp air felt so fresh among the towering bamboo stalks and the other sturdy trees.

Soon, they were already on a bamboo raft, drifting away from the lake bank. Calix opted to paddle the raft himself instead of having someone else do it.

"Youโ€™re really something, honey. Is there anything you canโ€™t do?"

Leslieโ€™s question came as she watched Calix expertly paddling the raft. She sat facing him while hugging Calliope.

"I canโ€™t wrap spring rolls and dumplings," replied Calix without missing a beat.

Leslie scoffed, thinking how true Calixโ€™s statement was. He hadnโ€™t mastered the art of folding dumplings and spring rolls despite living his second life.

Calliope was oblivious to her parentsโ€™ conversation. She spotted the fish swimming in the lake, also dragonflies in the air.

Despite the urging to crawl to the edge of the raft, Calliope held back. She didnโ€™t want to fall into the water as how her papa warned her.

After the bamboo rafting, the family of three headed to the forest trails. They didnโ€™t forget to get some bottled water and snacks before starting their adventure.

Calix, Leslie and Calliope walked leisurely, taking their time to appreciate the peace offered by the bamboo forest. They occasionally bumped into other visitors along the way.

"Mama, Papa, birds. Poppy see birds."

"Oh! Is that a beetle?"

"Pandas love bamboo leaves. Are they tasty?"

Calliope was never without questions. Calix and Leslie answered the little dumplingโ€™s questions the best they could, befitting her age. They also took photos in between.

In the middle of their walk, the family of three found a rest area. Aside from the wooden benches lining up the place, they also saw bamboo wings tied to sturdy oak trees.

"Wanna play swing for a bit?" Calix arched his brows, staring at the excited Calliope.

"Yes!"

Leslie took the role of a photographer as Calix helped to push Calliope sitting on the swing. The dumplingโ€™s hearty laughter and her papaโ€™s encouragement lightened the air in the trail area.

This was a moment neither of them could trade for the world.

After Calliope played with the swings, she couldnโ€™t resist collecting the fallen bamboo leaves and twigs. Crouching on the ground, she rearranged them on the forest floor.

"Mama, take photos please~"

Calliope proudly displayed her work once she was done, her face beaming with pride. Leslie and Calix filled their phoneโ€™s gallery with more photos of their daughter and her arts.

The familyโ€™s activity ended right before sunset. After dining at the restaurant, they returned to the cabin through the shuttle cart, the sun dipping below the horizon.

"Oh~ Mr. Sun will go to sleep now. Bye bye, see you tomorrow."

Calliope waved at the setting sun as the golden rays danced on the glimmering surface of the lake. Calix and Leslie held hands together, sharing a quiet smile as they enjoyed the serenity.

The sleep time for Calliope came so soon.

As expected, the dumpling slept even deeper that night, cuddling with Mimo on the bed. Her eyes were already closed when her parents tucked her into the bed.

When Calliope was sleeping, Calix and Leslie settled on a cozy couch on the side porch of the cabin. They sat in silence as they snuggled with one mug of hot chocolate each.

The cool breeze carried the faint rustle of bamboo leaves, alongside the gentle lapping of the lake. Its surface shimmered under the moonlight.

"Today was so much fun," Leslie mused, her eyes were on the moon, "I wonder what we will do in the next three days."

Calix let out a throaty chuckle. Placing his mug on the side table, he wrapped both arms around Leslie. His lips found places atop her head.

"We can just laze around in the cabin," Calix chuckled, enjoying how peaceful his life was when he wasnโ€™t busy at work, "But, we still have many things we can do here."

Leslie hummed softly, agreeing with Calix. She didnโ€™t mind just spending her time inside the cabin. Her man needed all the break he could have right now.

The husband and wife drifted to sleep after having their hot chocolate and marshmallows, eager for tomorrowโ€™s adventure.

The first light of dawn awakened the bamboo lake forest. The golden rays filtered through the towering emerald stalks, casting the lights on the forest floor.

"We will go... to a bamboo maze!"

Calix excitedly announced their first activity after having breakfast. Calliope clapped her hands and shouted in joy while Leslie simply chuckled.

The father and daughter duoโ€™s energy was really unmatched.

One area of Whistling Creek had a bamboo maze. The family of three took their time navigating the labyrinth, working together as they paused from one spot before marching to the next.

The activity was indeed fulfilling but, also exhausting. Calliope could barely open her eyes when they had lunch later at a restaurant by the lake.

"Seems like weโ€™ll go back and rest," was what Calix said upon seeing how sleepy Calliope was.

"We can continue later," Leslie agreed as she referred to resuming their activities. She gently stroked Calliopeโ€™s head, "Someone needs her nap."

The family of three returned to the cabin, simply enjoying the rest of the daytime in the comfort of the hut.

When Calliope was napping, Calix and Leslie watched a TV show before retreating to the bedroom. The sun was still high in the sky as they rested.

Calliope was still awake when Calix and Leslie woke up later. They played board games in the lounge until the sun began setting and...

"You should take a bath first. Iโ€™ll accompany Poppy."

Leslie thought nothing was weird when Calix nudged her to bathe. It was indeed the usual time she usually took a bath or shower.

But...

Leslie was confused when she found no Calix or Calliope once she stepped out of the washroom. What awaited her was a dress lying on the bed, including a card.

Her belovedโ€™s handwriting was carved on the white card.

โ€™My love, Iโ€™ve prepared a surprise for you, more special than the previous ones. Poppy gonna help me ;) Someone will come to pick you up at sevenโ€™

Arching her brows, Leslie chuckled in helplessness.

Another surprise? And, a more special one?

Aiya, now he even sought their daughterโ€™s help.
