Witch, Fireball and the Evil God of Steam-Chapter 800 - 141: Ember
"Just...like this?"
The response from the Other Shore plunged everyone into silence.
Was it simply because Young Master Fabius tried to chat her up in the tavern, urged her to drink a few times, and then was beaten up by this insane woman and thrown into the tavern's back alley?
Is this a reason worth dying for?
They couldn't comprehend it.
And they couldn't see any remorse from the Other Shore; her expression was calm, her tone relaxed, as if she had completely dismissed this matter.
But this was no small affair. They had heard that Young Master Fabius was seriously injured, not a Transcendent, and usually a man of discipline. He lay listless in bed all day, barely touching food. Duke Ash was as anxious as an ant on a hot pan; after losing Fulien, his illegitimate child, the Duke couldn't allow anyone to lay a finger on his offspring.
The Duke ordered that, regardless of the methods used or how many people were dispatched, they must bring this red-haired woman to him alive.
Before her death, she must atone for her actions from the previous day, perhaps only then could Duke Ash's fury be quelled. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
These few were top-notch among the Skinners, having completed countless tasks and trials...
Their internal "fire seeds" had reached the most perfect state.
They had thought the Other Shore would provide a more "sufficient" reason, such as those involving grievances between the Silver Radiance Empire's commoners and nobility spanning hundreds of years, or perhaps due to villages or towns destroyed by the Simpler Clan. The Skinners were accustomed to handling bitter and desperate rebels and avengers for the family; thus, when they heard the Other Shore's reason was just "finding Fabius unpleasant and beating him to a pulp," they suddenly felt at a loss.
This was the most trivial reason.
To most people in the Imperial Capital, being chatted up by Young Master Fabius was a blessing earned over several lifetimes. Young Master never lacked women; every day, scores of elaborately dressed females flaunted themselves before him, hoping for Fabius's favor.
"Is this still not enough?"
The Other Shore was somewhat puzzled, seeing it as nothing more than a routine street brawl, where after drinking, both sides found each other annoying and fought — even in their now well-ordered Imperial Capital, such things occasionally happen, with the Imperial Knight Order catching them merely for criticism and education.
Now they fully understood.
This woman was either an idiot or a madwoman.
Yet, seeing how easily she incapacitated the young master's guards, she was indeed a madwoman with extraordinary combat prowess.
They arranged themselves in a coordinated battle formation, believing it was precisely because the Other Shore was confident in her formidable strength that she boldly lured them into this dead-end alley.
Cutting off her own retreat, with no space to escape, she likely saw it as just another street brawl.
However, once she laid hands on Young Master Fabius, her fate was sealed; the Simpler Clan would not spare her, nor would they allow her to die easily. Anyone who offended the Simpler Clan had to repent and pay for their sins before Duke Ash forgave them and mercifully granted them death.
The Simpler Manor's prison held many such individuals, even those self-assured avengers would eventually break down mentally during punishment, humbly kneeling before Duke Ash, begging for his forgiveness.
They began to anticipate the transformation of this madwoman.
Seeing the situation, the Other Shore raised an eyebrow, cradling a bag filled with bread in her left arm, freeing up her right hand, "That's more like it. Enough talk; let's fight."
Fight?
The Skinners ignited their "fire seeds," instantly appearing before the Other Shore, aiming their poisoned daggers at her achilles tendon. It was their favored combat style: paralyzing the prey, ensuring they lose consciousness under a tide of blood and poison. The specially formulated poison would only numb their nerves, not kill.
They held nothing back, activating all the potential granted to them by their "fire seeds" at the moment of engagement.
After undergoing baptism, they had already surpassed human limitations, reaching a realm beyond mortal reach!
The Other Shore's actions seemed like slow-motion to him; she appeared stunned by the sudden onset of the ambush. Fabius's guards mentioned her swift movements; the worthless lot had, at least, helped them devise a strategy beforehand.
For prey known for speed, their legs were the weak point.
Closer, drawing closer.
One swing of the blade would render this prey unable to run ever again!
"Boom——!"
The sudden explosion froze the rest in place; they failed to grasp what had transpired in that instantaneous moment. Yet, when they regained their senses, their companion close to the Other Shore was already half-buried underground, only the back half twitching above the pit.
Everyone was wary of the long sword strapped to Other Shore's waist, believing it the sole weapon that could harm them. The Skinner near the Other Shore focused intently on her sword, but to everyone's surprise, what greeted him was an iron fist.
