"Next!"

The guards at the gate shouted as they called for the next person to step forward.

This was a checkpoint on the border between the Laver Empire and the Kalos Empire, so it was only natural that the guards would be checking everyone that was passing.

Though the check that they did wasn't really a thorough one.

It seemed that with the peace, there really wasn't much reason for them to do a thorough check.

However, if there was a war, one could imagine that the situation at the border would become much more strict.

If a war ever broke out between the Laver Empire and the Kalos Empire, it was very likely that they would even close this border.

But before that happened, trade was one of the important things for these two empires.

No matter how big and powerful an empire became, it was impossible for it to sustain itself if it didn't have a proper economy. Free trade was the best way to strengthen the economy of a country, so they didn't restrict anyone at the borders.

They just stopped anyone that had anything dangerous.

That included people that were traveling with weapons and there were a lot of them.

Most of these people were adventurers who were moving between the two countries, challenging the different dungeons that were found in the different countries.

But since they wielded weapons, they had to be checked to make sure that there was nothing wrong with them.

"A…A Rank Adventurer!"

The guard stuttered when he received the Adventurer's Guild card.

All of the other guards also looked over with surprised looks.

Even if there were adventurers that moved across the border often, it wasn't as if there were that many high ranked adventurers in the first place.

It wasn't just because high ranked adventurers were rare in the first place, it was because high ranked adventurers were considered resources.

They were powerful people and could be considered weapons to a certain extent.

So the countries that they lived in did what they could to keep those high ranked adventurers in their borders. And for the high ranked adventurers that had family in those countries, it was beneficial for them to work with the countries.

After all, those places were their homelands.

That was why it was rare for high ranked adventurers to go anywhere in the first place.

Those that did usually had a special reason for doing so, which was why the moment that the guards found out that this person was an A Rank Adventurer, they moved closer to surround him.

Of course, they didn't treat him with hostility since there was no one foolish enough to challenge an A Rank Adventurer for no reason. At the same time, the Kalos Empire had already instructed them on what to do in cases like this.

The guard that held the guild card looked up at this person and slowly asked, "May I ask why you're coming to our Kalos Empire?"

"I wanted to challenge a few dungeons." Lin Fan said without any hesitation.

The guard looked at Lin Fan with a strange look for a bit before slowly giving a nod.

Once he was done taking down the information, he handed the guild card back to Lin Fan and said, "Let me just go process this and then you'll be able to head out."

Lin Fan gave a simple nod before waiting for them to finish.

But while he was waiting, he could hear a few things being said with his heightened senses.

"It's one of the free wandering adventurers."

That was the one thing that was said the most among the guards.

Lin Fan wasn't surprised to hear this since this was what he expected from the guards. In fact, it was what he had been hoping that the guards would think of him when he told them his reason for entering the Kalos Empire.

After all, this was what Haku had told him would be his cover.

It was also the reason why she used her power to raise his level from a B Rank Adventurer to an A Rank Adventurer. Though it wasn't as if he didn't have the power to become A Rank on his own.

It was just that for the sake of his cover, it was easier if he was an A Rank Adventurer.

Though most high rank adventurers wouldn't leave their homelands since they had attachments to those places, there were those that didn't have the same attachments. These were the ones that were known as the free wandering adventurers since they went wherever they pleased.

They didn't have attachments to places for different reasons.

Such as being orphans, suffering tragedies that they were escaping from, or even their former homes being destroyed. That was why they had no problem wandering about instead of settling down.

Though there were also those that wandered around just because that was the kind of personality that they had.

They preferred having their freedom as opposed to settling down.

As for the reason why the guards cared that much about this…

Well, it wasn't as if people were unchanging.

Simply put, even those that wandered around would eventually settle down.

That was why it was the best cover for Lin Fan to disguise himself as a free wandering adventurer.

They would try to find ways for him to build roots in this country and then settle down here.

Or at least that was what they ordered.

Once the guard had finished with the paperwork, he started chatting to Lin Fan. It seemed that he was trying to be friendly with Lin Fan, but Lin Fan knew that all he was doing was trying to get more information.

Such as where Lin Fan was going.

If he knew where Lin Fan was going, it would be easy to send a report to the lord that lived in that place that a high ranking adventurer was coming. Once the lord was aware of this, it would be easier to come up with ways to try and get him to stay in the Kalos Empire.

Every lord knew that having a high ranked adventurer settle in their territory was an asset after all.

So it was only natural that they would do all that they could to keep them there.

Of course, they weren't foolish enough to cause trouble for the A Rank Adventurer.

Even without the Adventurer's Guild behind them, the A Rank Adventurers were already dangerous enough.

That was why they would only try to approach them with kindness and wouldn't do anything to impede them.

Lin Fan just directly told the guards where he was heading since the place that he was heading was a famous dungeon in the first place. However, there was another identity of this dungeon that others didn't know about.

This dungeon was actually the dungeon of one of Haku's fan club members.

In fact, it was actually one of the five dungeon cores that had challenged Lin Fan and Rokuko to a dungeon battle.

Though it wasn't as if Lin Fan could head to the dungeon and make contact with the dungeon core right away.

So before that, he would make contact another way.

The dungeon cores acted out their roles as guild masters of the Adventurer's Guilds and going to these places to head into the dungeons would allow him to meet with the guild masters.

But before he actually met them, Lin Fan was planning to do something in those dungeons.

It was partly to act out his role as an A Rank Adventurer, it was also partly because he wanted to take a bit of revenge on the dungeon core. It was a petty kind of revenge, but it would be good enough to help take some revenge for Rokuko.

Making contact with the lords of those places was just the icing on the top.

Other than that, he actually received help from the guards because he was honest about where he was heading. Because of this, they actually gave him a map to the place that he wanted to visit.

This wasn't a benefit that anyone would receive since maps were considered important strategic resources.

It was only because he was an A Rank Adventurer that he received this map from them.

With this map, it didn't take Lin Fan long to arrive at the city that the dungeon was in.

And before even going to the Adventurer's Guild branch or seeing the lord that ruled this place, Lin Fan headed right to the dungeon.

The ones that were outside the dungeon were surprised to see him and they were even more surprised to see that he was an A Rank Adventurer.

Lin Fan could tell that among these people, there were a few that gave off a familiar feeling.

That was because they were humanoid monsters as well.

It seemed that all of the dungeon cores used the same trick of using humanoid monsters to run things.

The ones that were in charge of the entrance to the dungeon had wanted to call the guild master since Lin Fan was an A Rank Adventurer, but he stopped them and said that he just wanted to enter the dungeon.

In the end, there was nothing that they could do to stop him.

All they could do was let him in.

Though there were a few strange looks from the humanoid monsters that were cast in Lin Fan's direction.

He just ignored all of them as he headed into the dungeon, preparing for his petty revenge.
