Wizard: Adventures in Two Worlds-Chapter 663 - 21: Black Scarabs
"Crash..."
Something unknown was triggered, causing the stone carvings on the wall to come alive and rush towards everyone.
Unlike the Holy Beetles encountered before.
These newly animated Holy Beetles were no longer golden but blackish-brown, like writhing charcoal.
Their movement was incredibly fast, and the sheer number of them was terrifying, forming a black wave in the blink of an eye.
"Retreat quickly!"
"Start shooting!"
"..."
"Puff!"
The team was equipped with quick-freezing firearms, and someone pulled the trigger, releasing billows of white mist.
The white mist was a special material capable of quickly freezing objects it encountered.
The previously encountered animated Holy Beetles were restored to a petrified state by being re-frozen with it.
But now?
"Crack..."
Cracks appeared on the surface layer of the frozen crystals, and to the others' horror, countless beetles broke through the ice.
These black beetles were not afraid of low temperatures.
"Ah!"
"Help!"
Screams rang out.
A member of the mine's security team, holding a gun, was overwhelmed by the black beetles, and the screams abruptly stopped.
Barro, who had extraordinary vision, saw everything clearly.
The black beetles swung their sharp forelimbs and serrated jaws, tearing off chunks of flesh with one bite.
Even metallic firearms and tough protective suits were torn apart effortlessly in the face of that terrifying bite force.
In just a few breaths, the silhouette engulfed by the black beetles was completely devoured.
"Bang!"
"Bang bang!"
Someone frantically pulled the trigger, bullets landing on the beetles, sparking slightly and at most repelling one or two.
But there were hundreds, thousands in the field!
"Swish!"
Several black beetles suddenly launched off the ground, faster than bullets, piercing through the guards' bodies in an instant.
"Buzz..."
After landing, the black beetles vibrated slightly, extending a pair of wings thin as cicada's wings from their backs.
"They can fly!"
"Run!"
"Ah..."
These black beetles were robust enough to withstand bullets, unbelievably fast, and could fly, compounded by their terrifying numbers and inexplicable bite force.
Even Barro, as a Transcendent, paled in the face of this scene.
Run!
A group of people dropped what they were holding and turned, fleeing frantically in the direction they had come.
"Where's the door?"
"Wrong way!"
"There's a small path this way, go quickly!"
The group, pursued by the black beetles, fled in panic, not noticing the changes happening to the surrounding relief carvings.
Scenes depicting terrifying scenarios were revealed once the black beetles left.
The carvings,
Twisted!
Chaotic!
Evil!
...
"Swish!"
At some point, a longsword appeared in Barro's hand, and the slender blade seemed less like a battlefield weapon, more like a decorative ornament.
But as he swung the longsword, a chilling Sword Qi surged, piercing through the encirclement of the black beetles.
He only acted in self-preservation.
Looking back, almost everyone was enveloped by the black beetles.
"Damn it!"
As a qualified Nightwatcher, Barro had witnessed numerous scenes of comrades being killed over the past two years.
He roared in anger, choosing to retreat rationally.
......
"Monica!"
"Blaze!"
In the chaos, a man and a woman clutched each other's hands tightly, sprinting toward a direction fewer black beetles appeared.
"Wrong!"
Monica, after all, wasn't an ordinary person, first sensed something was off:
"This isn't the way we came."
"Just go," Blaze urged, pulling her hastily:
"There's no choice right now."
Monica frowned, glanced back at the swarming black beetles, and helplessly continued running with him.
"Huff... Huff..."
Blaze, no longer in his teenage years, at over thirty, his body had begun to decline.
Such a frantic run left him panting, his throat felt like it was burning, and his body trembled continuously.
"Heh..."
He glanced at Monica beside him, whose expression remained normal, and shook his head somewhat enviously:
"I never expected your constitution to be so good?"
"I exercise regularly," Monica surveyed her surroundings:
"Where are we?"
"I don't know." Blaze steadied himself, taking out his phone from his pocket to illuminate around:
"Luckily, those black beetles haven't caught up, at least safety isn't a concern right now."
Monica gently shook her head, but said nothing more, instead groping her way forward.
"Is there any signal on your phone?"
"No."
"We need to find a way to get information out."
"Yes."
"..."
Silence filled the air.
The two hadn't been alone for a long time, or rather, not since their 'amicable' breakup.
Now, in an unfamiliar environment and confined space, the atmosphere began to turn peculiar.
"Monica."
Blaze opened his mouth:
"If we don't make it out..."
"We will," Monica replied resolutely as she felt along the stone wall:
"We will definitely find a way out."
"Hopefully." Blaze leaned against the wall:
"Why didn't you ever find another boyfriend all these years?"
"Now isn't the time for this," Monica turned around, looking at him seriously:
"We need to find a way out."
"Some things, if not said now, there won't be a chance later," Blaze continued:
"We're five hundred meters underground, with a dead end ahead, and those black beetles behind."
"Monica..."
"We'll die, we'll die!"
?
Monica opened her mouth, sighing helplessly:
"Don't be so downhearted, there's still a chance."
"Chance?" Blaze shrugged:
"You've never given me a chance..."
"Watch out!"
His words hadn't yet faded as his expression suddenly changed, rushing forward instinctively to shield Monica.
"Ding..."
A crisp collision sounded.
A black beetle shot out from the darkness, like an arrow, darting toward Monica.
Instantly,
A delicate finger appeared before the black beetle, flicking it lightly, sending it flying away.
The beetle, which even bullets couldn't pierce, was shattered into pieces by that slender finger.
?
Blaze stood frozen, watching the scene unfold, confusion rising in his eyes.
Was it an illusion?
"Let's go."
Monica sighed:
"We need to find a way out."
"You..." Blaze was stunned:
"How did you do that?"
"Swish!"
"Puff puff!"
Countless black lines shot forth, revealed to be the black beetles ambushed in the darkness.
"Watch out!"
Monica's expression changed drastically.
She wasn't worried about herself but knew each incoming black line could be fatal for Blaze.
"Swish!"
A mass of blood mist surged forth.
Dozens of palm-sized bats burst out, confronting the incoming black beetles.
Amidst a series of crackling sounds, a pale-faced Monica emerged, dragging Blaze as they fled wildly.
"Run quickly!"
"Boom!"
"Blood!" From the depths of darkness, a low roar echoed:
"What kind of blood is this? It can affect the Prohibition laid by those old things."
"Hahaha..."
"It's mine!"
"It's mine!"
