Chapter 113: Going On A Date [Power Stone Goal Bonus Chapter]
The afternoon drifted by quietly.
After sinking into the couch and letting his thoughts run wild for a while, James eventually pulled himself up, forcing his mind to settle down.
He knew that there was no point drowning in emotions now. What happened between him and Leslie... it happened. No regrets. There was no reason to feel so.
But tmge will still have to figure everything out later and there would be more than enough time to do that.
Right now, he had something else to focus on — the dinner date with Natasha.
Time moved faster than he realized. Before he knew it, the sun had started its slow descent over the horizon, painting the sky in soft streaks of gold and pink.
James brought out his phone and checked the time.
5: 10pm
A little under two hours left.
He pushed himself off the couch with a grunt and walked to the bathroom. Staring at himself in the mirror, he saw the slight messiness of his hair, the faint signs of emotions lingering on his face.
He splashed cold water on his face, patted it dry, and leaned closer to the mirror.
"You’re good," he muttered to himself.
"You’ve handled worse."
Stepping out of the bathroom, he crossed the room to his wardrobe and opened it wide.
The problem hit him immediately.
He barely had anything decent to wear for a dinner date. His closet was filled mostly with casual outfits, a few hastily bought jackets, some old formal wear that was slightly outdated, and a pile of new golf attire he had just bought.
None of them screamed "taking a gorgeous girl out for a nice evening."
James sighed heavily.
"How the hell did I not think of this earlier?"
Wellz he couldn’t he blamed. From buying the cars to the golf set, to calling Mr Donovan and then what happened with Leslie. His day can be defined as a rollercoaster of events and emotions.
He rummaged through the clothes anyway, trying to piece something together. A clean, crisp white shirt. Slim black dress pants. Black loafers. And one of the better-looking jackets he owned — navy blue, still sharp, still fitting.
He laid them out on the bed and stared at them critically.
It wasn’t designer-level. It wasn’t flashy. But it was clean, polished, and neat. And it was more than perfect the the date.
He sat down on the edge of the bed, checking his phone. No new messages.
Natasha was probably bouncing off the walls right now, getting ready.
James smiled slightly at the thought, feeling the edges of his stress start to smooth out.
Tonight wasn’t supposed to be complicated. He wasn’t going to overthink it. It was just a nice dinner, a chance to breathe a little, and see where things will go between the of them.
His phone buzzed lightly in his hand. A simple message from Natasha popped up.
"Can’t wait to see you tonight!"
James chuckled under his breath.
He tossed the phone onto the bed and stood up, feeling lighter somehow.
He still had about an hour left before it was time to leave. Enough time to shower again, shave, get dressed properly, and clear his mind.
***
An hour later, James was fully dressed, freshened up, and more or less mentally prepared for the evening ahead.
He picked up his phone and the Chevrolet Trax key fob from the table and walked toward the door of his room.
Just as he reached for the handle and pulled the door open, he froze.
Standing there, like she had been waiting for him, was Leslie — her electric blue eyes shining softly, a warm, playful smile on her face.
"Hey," she said casually, but there was a flicker of emotion behind her eyes that betrayed how she really felt.
Before he could say anything, she stepped forward and gently took his hand in both of hers, squeezing it softly.
"I want you to have fun with Natasha tonight," she said quietly, her voice almost a whisper.
"Don’t think too much about what happened between us. Just... enjoy yourself."
James opened his mouth to reply, but Leslie, as if knowing he was about to speak, leaned forward and pressed a feather-light kiss against his cheek.
"You can go wild if you want," she teased with a small mischievous grin, her voice dropping to an even softer whisper.
"Because no matter what happens, I already have your first kiss."
Before James could react, Leslie turned on her heel, her hair whipping behind her like a black silk ribbon, and dashed back toward her room.
"You look handsome!" she shouted over her shoulder, laughing brightly as she disappeared behind her door, leaving James standing there, stunned and smiling like an idiot.
James chuckled under his breath, shaking his head as he closed his door behind him.
He knew things between them were going to change from now on — that small innocent barrier they’d always carefully maintained had been shattered completely.
And honestly? The new developments was more than welcomed. It also felt like something inevitable, as it was something that was always meant to happen.
Still smiling faintly, James made his way downstairs, adjusting his jacket slightly.
He reached the living area just as Patty was flipping through TV channels, lounging on the couch.
He was about to walk past her quietly, but she must have sensed him, because she turned her head and saw him.
Her eyes lit up immediately.
"Honey, you’re already off to your date?" she asked warmly, standing up from the couch, smoothing out her clothes.
James walked toward her, giving her a soft peck on the cheek.
"Yeah," he replied simply.
Patty took a small step back to get a better look at him, her smile widening.
"You look dashing, sweetheart," she said approvingly, gently adjusting a slightly crooked part of his jacket.
"I’m sure Natasha’s heart will be doing backflips tonight."
James smiled back, feeling a little more confident under her gaze.
"Thanks."
Patty chuckled lightly and fixed his collar, brushing off a tiny invisible speck of dust with all the care in the world, before leaning closer, lowering her voice with a teasing glint in her eye.
"And honey," she whispered, "I know I can’t exactly stop you, so if you’re planning to do anything... adventurous tonight," she winked slyly, "make sure you use protection. Unless your pull out game is A-rank or you’re ready to become a father."
James almost choked.
His face instantly turned beet red, and he stepped back a little, flustered and wide-eyed.
"I—" he stammered.
Patty burst into soft, musical laughter, covering her mouth as she watched his reaction with pure amusement.
"Are you embarrassed?" she teased sweetly, her voice still full of laughter.
"Come on, honey. You’re a man now. No need to act so shy."
James shook his head quickly, trying to recover his dignity, but the blush wouldn’t leave his cheeks.
"Thanks for the advice," he muttered gruffly.
Patty only laughed harder.
"Go now," she said, waving her hand dramatically like she was sending him off to battle.
"Enjoy your date — and enjoy the night."
James gave her a weak nod, mumbling something under his breath, and quickly escaped toward the garage before she could say anything else even more embarrassing.
As he walked into the garage, he let out a slow breath, running a hand through his hair.
"God... Women are dangerous," he muttered with a small smile.
He pressed the unlock button on the Trax key fob. The car gave a soft chirp, and he slid inside, starting the engine smoothly.
Pulling out of the driveway, James couldn’t help but grin.
Tonight was going to be... interesting. Very interesting.
