World Domination Begins With Getting a System in a Modern World-Chapter 155: Shy Leslie
Chapter 155: Shy Leslie
The boy stepped boldly into their path with the kind of confident, smug smile that only came from a life unchallenged.
His crisp golf attire, carefully tousled hair, and his lazy swagger all screamed entitlement.
Without even glancing at James and deliberately treating him like air, the boy’s full attention locked onto Leslie.
"Hey, beautiful," he said smoothly, flashing a practiced grin. "Haven’t seen you around before. You new to the club? You got a name?"
Leslie stiffened immediately, caught off guard by the boldness. She opened her mouth to answer, but hesitated.
Patty stepped slightly forward, instinctively protective but still holding onto the thin thread of polite decorum.
James said nothing. He simply stood there, with a sharp, ice cold gaze and a relaxed posture.
Underneath his skin, a slow, dangerous calm was building — the kind that only needed one spark to ignite into something devastating.
But he restrained himself as he wanted to see how far this fool would go.
The boy — William Howell, as he soon introduced himself — kept talking, undeterred by the tension that was beginning to simmer.
"I’m William Howell. My family’s been part of this club since it was founded. Dad’s on three boards. Mom runs the State Historical Preservation Committee. You know, all the boring rich people stuff." He laughed lightly, expecting Leslie to be impressed.
The Howell name is a big name in California and it’s also quite influential. William has used just his family’s name to pick up girls lots og times, and sometimes even older, married women.
So, it was natural for him to expect Leslie to be impressed. But he was slightly surprised when he saw her looking at him strangely. He felt that she was looking at him like he was a fool that doesn’t know what he’s saying.
From the edges of the parking lot, a few young heirs and heiresses watched with barely concealed amusement, whispering and giggling behind their hands. Some of them were subtly cheering William on.
William caught the reaction of his peers, and emboldened by it, leaned in even further.
"We’ve got a yacht party next weekend. You should come. Bring your sister too, if you want. I don’t mind," he added, throwing a deliberate glance toward Patty.
He didn’t care about Leslie’ initial reaction to hearing his family name, as he attributed it to her being a frog in a well, coupled with her playing hard to get.
William spoke like James wasn’t even there — like he was just some faceless chauffeur or bodyguard not worth acknowledging.
The insult was clear. It was crude, but clever enough to cause a reaction if James was foolish.
But James smiled slowly. He understood the game perfectly: provoke, humiliate, establish dominance in front of witnesses.
It was childish, amateurish and laughably beneath him.
Without a word, James stepped forward, casual and fluid action, placing one hand gently across Leslie’s waist and the other lightly against Patty’s back, in an unmistakable, territorial gesture.
Leslie immediately leaned into him, with a bright smile on her face. She didn’t say anything to William but her body language volumes louder than words.
And the signal was clear: she wasn’t available — emotionally, physically, socially, or whatever way he’s imagining.
William’s confident smirk wavered. A flicker of uncertainty passed through his eyes due to the bewildering situation.
His jaw clenched, knuckles whitening slightly as the suppressed anger leaked through.
Still, James said nothing. He simply smiled politely, waiting. Patty was the one who took action, as she delivered the coup de grâce with grace.
"Thank you for the offer, young man. But we already have plans," she said warmly, with the kind of patient condescension that only someone truly above you could pull off.
Before William could recover or launch another attempt, James stepped closer and patted him lightly on the shoulder — an unmistakable, patronizing gesture.
"And next time," James said calmly, with his voice smooth like glass, "introduce yourself to everyone in the group. Not just the part you like looking at."
James paused deliberately, giving the words a moment to sink in. Then, he added with a faint, almost pitying smile:
"It’s good manners. But I guess they don’t teach that where you come from — only how to wear a name like a badge and hope someone’s impressed."
The small crowd of young elites standing some distance from the lot, stiffened and quickly covered their mouths, doing their best to hold in the laughter.
William blinked, visibly thrown off, his earlier smugness crumbling as his peers quietly absorbed the humiliation.
For a split second, he just stood there frozen, completely off balance by the unexpected turn of events.
James didn’t spare him another glance, as he casually guided Patty and Leslie around him.
The scattered group of young elites watching nearby, finally burst into muted laughter, from the entertainment they just got treated to.
William stood there, frozen, seething, humiliated — and worst of all — ignored.
James, Patty, and Leslie strolled to the car, with light laughter between them.
As the Range Rover glided out of the parking lot, James caught one last glimpse of William.
He was still standing there, with his fists clenching and unclenching helplessly as his peers whispered and chuckled around him.
"What a fool," he smirked.

The drive home was filled with happy chatter, as they recounted the fun parts of the gathering.
They talked about Patty’s disastrous swing and Leslie’s dramatic over-swing that almost toppled her, the fancy pastries, the violinists playing under the shade trees.
For now, they chose to laugh and live in the better parts of the day, brushing off the earlier ugliness like crumbs from a fine tablecloth.
When they arrived home, Patty immediately made her way toward the kitchen, humming as she began to prep lunch. freewebnσvel.cøm
James set down his bag, stretching slightly. He was just about to offer to help when he felt Leslie’s hand slip into his.
He turned — just in time for her to drag him upstairs with surprising urgency.
The moment they reached his bedroom, Leslie kicked the door shut behind them, locked it, and grabbed James’ collar — crashing her lips into his with sudden, with fierce hunger.
James froze for a heartbeat, slightly caught off guard but he didn’t allow himself to fall behind, as he wrapped his arms around her, pulling her flush against him as he kissed her back with matching intensity.
They stumbled backward, laughing breathlessly between kisses, collapsing onto the bed in a tangled heap.
As they continued to kiss, their tongues fighting for dominance, James’ hands roamed instinctively over her waist, her back, feeling the heat of her body through the thin fabric.
After a long, dizzying minute of deep, exhilaratingly, intoxicating kisses, they pulled apart slightly, their breaths coming fast and uneven.
Leslie smiled up at him, cheeks flushed pink. Then, burying her face against his chest, she spoke softly, voice muffled.
"I’m venting," she muttered.
James blinked, then chuckled quietly, stroking her hair gently.
"Venting, huh?"
She nodded against him, squeezing him tighter.
James naturally understood. She was venting her anger, her helplessness, her frustration from the morning.
His heart softened completely and he leaned down, and kissed the top of her head.
"I’ll take care of the pests," he said quietly, with a low voice filled with promises.
Leslie looked up at him, eyes shining with unspoken trust, and nodded fiercely.
For a long time, they just stayed like that — wrapped around each other, without saying anything to each other.
Eventually, Leslie slowly stood up, her body still flushed with residual emotion.
The next moment, she froze, her gaze catching on to something.
She gasped, face heating up instantly when she saw the clear evidence of James arousal straining against his pants.
Wide-eyed and flustered, she pointed at it without thinking.
"You... uh..." she stammered, with her face beet red.
James arched an eyebrow, amused at her reaction. He... had no idea what she was talking about.
Leslie, cheeks burning, blurted out in a panicked whisper, "Go take it to Natasha!" before bolting out of the room.
James saw her reaction, threw his head back and laughed. He snuggled back onto the bed, arms spread wide, grinning up at the ceiling.
Leslie’s reaction is always cute.
About Natasha, he actually has a date with her today.
"I better start getting ready," he smiled to himself, and jumped out of the bed.
As for what happened at the country club today, — especially Vivienne — James had already started thinking of how to deal with it.
