World Domination Begins With Getting a System in a Modern World-Chapter 47: Buying New Gadgets
Chapter 47: Buying New Gadgets
James’ next line of action was to start looking for a private investigator that would hell him to dig up dirt on Cullen Corp.
It’s not like he can open up a case with the police on Cullen Corp, as James knew how risky that is.
Even though the McCullen family has fallen from their previous status and their company isn’t as big as it was before, they still hold considerable influence.
And if James is to file a case and open an investigation with the police, it won’t be long before the news get to Brian’s father.
James took out his phone and went on the internet, searching through it for websites or social media pages of any private investigator in LA or around him.
Unfortunately for him, after a couple of minutes of scouring the internet, he found nothing.
Not that he actually found nothing — he just couldn’t find a suitable private investigator to take up the case. And the suitable ones he found were outside LA and were charging more.
Not that James can’t afford them but he doesn’t want to waste money. Especially when it’s not rebate eligible funds.
"I wonder why it’s so difficult to get a private investigator?" James asked himself, as he thought out loud.
"Should I ask Patty if she knows anything?" He thought to himself, and shook his head immediately.
"No. I can’t ask her. If I ask her, she would immediately realise what I need a private investigator for and she will start getting worried, and that’s something I don’t want to see."
James sighed, feeling slightly down with his inability to secure a private investigator. He went on the internet again but after half an hour of searching, he was left disappointed.
"Seems like there’s nothing I can do about the private investigator and Brian for now. And besides it’s weekend, no matter how hard I try, I won’t be able to get anything done. I should wait till working days and try again. Maybe then, I will get something," James said to himself, as he dropped his phone on the bed.
He rolled over his bed and got up, and walked to his workstation to play some game on his PC.
He booted his PC and inputed his password, and he clicked on the icon of the game he wants to play.
James waited for the game to load but after a few minutes, he realised that it was taking way longer than it should.
He tried closing the application but his PC was lagging badly. He tried to forcefully close the application and restart his PC, but it refused.
Seeing this, James sighed and unplugged the PC directly from the wall socket.
"I guess that’s my cue to get myself a laptop and PlayStation or Xbox, as I’m tired of playing on PC. And I should also get myself a new phone as the one I’m currently using is pretty ancient," he said, as he stood up from the chair.
He walked to his bed and picked up his phone and his car key, and left his room. He made his way downstairs. He got to the living room and when he saw no one, he decided to text Leslie and Patty, and tell them that he was going out to get something.
The reason why he texted them that he was leaving was because he doesn’t want a situation whereby they will be worried about his whereabout.
After he was done with that, James left the house and drove to the nearest tech store.

A couple of minutes later, James parked in front of a store that sells PlayStation and other gaming devices. He got out of the car and made his way into the store.
The first thing James saw when he walked into the store was the PlayStations and Xboxs on the wall display.
"Hello. How may I help you, man," the man behind the counter asked James, when he saw him looking slightly lost.
"Yes. I want to buy a PS5 pro," James replied, and man’s eyes narrowed slightly.
"Not bad." He smiled, and turned to pick the PlayStation James want off the counter.
"$699," he said, as he placed it gently on the counter.
James didn’t bother to say anything as he placed his debit card on the terminal, and made the payment.
After the man had confirmed the payment, he gave James a thumb and smile in congratulation.
James nodded and smiled, before leaving the store. He dropped the PS5 pro he just bought, in the backseat of his car, before making his way to the Apple store beside the gaming store.
He walked into the Apple store, taking in the sleek, modern interior filled with glowing displays and rows of the latest devices.
The faint sound of conversation, the smooth jazz playing over the store’s speakers, and the fresh scent of brand-new electronics filled the air.
He made his way to the counter, where an iPhone 16 Pro was displayed alongside its price tag: $1,199.
James picked up the phone, feeling its premium weight in his hands. He wasn’t exactly a fan of Apple products — he had always preferred Android for its customization and versatility — but at the end of the day, he couldn’t deny the build quality and seamless integration of Apple’s ecosystem.
Plus, after looking at the Android flagship options earlier, he realized the price difference wasn’t significant enough to justify choosing one over the other.
"Good afternoon, sir. Looking to upgrade?" a well-dressed employee asked, approaching him with a professional smile.
"Yeah. I’ll take the iPhone 16 Pro in black," James replied, placing the display model back on its stand.
"Good choice. Would you like any accessories with that? Maybe AppleCare+ for extended warranty and protection?"
James shook his head.
"Just the phone. Oh, and I also need the best laptop you have."
The employee’s eyes lit up.
"We have the MacBook Pro 16-inch, fully specced out. It’s currently the most powerful laptop we offer, with an M3 Ultra chip, 4TB storage, and 96GB RAM. It’s priced at $3,999."
James nodded without hesitation.
"I’ll take that, too."
As the employee walked away to get the devices, James glanced around the store, his thoughts shifting.
Since he was already here, why not get something for Patty and Leslie? They both used outdated phones and laptops, and now that they were getting more involved in business, especially Patty, they needed better devices.
By the time the employee returned, James had already made up his mind.
"Actually, I’ll take two more iPhone 16 Pros, and two more of those MacBooks, and two airpod pro 2."
The employee’s professional smile widened slightly — this was a big sale.
"Of course, sir. That’s three iPhones and three MacBook Pros. Would you like them in different colors?"
James shrugged.
"Give me a black and silver MacBook, and one in space gray. For the phones, one black, one white, and one blue."
"Excellent choices. I’ll have everything ready in a moment."
James stood by the counter as the employee rang up his total, and within a few minutes, he was presented with three neatly packed MacBooks and iPhones.
"Your total comes to $15,094. Would you like to pay by card or digital transfer?"
James tapped his debit card on the terminal, and a second later, the transaction was approved.
"Would you like bags for these, sir?"
"No need. I’ll carry them myself."
"Alright, sir. Thank you for shopping with us, and enjoy your new devices!"
James nodded, grabbed the three Apple bags, and walked out of the store, making his way back to his car.
After placing his new PS5 Pro, MacBooks, and iPhones in the backseat, he shut the door and exhaled, feeling a strange sense of satisfaction. He smiled as he started the car and started driving home.
