World's Last Hope-Chapter 105: Into the Mist
Looking over the horizon, Eric spoke, "I think we are progressing smoothly."
He quickly counted the destroyed cocoons on the ground next to him.
"About twenty, so that makes it about a thousand destroyed," he muttered under his breath.
A thousand wasn’t a number to scoff at, but it was much less than he thought they would find.
’Have we really overestimated how quickly they can reproduce?’ he asked himself, then a second later he shook his head.
’No, we haven’t even encountered a colossal spider yet. It’s possible that we are just outside the main part of their nest, which is why we aren’t facing much resistance,’ he concluded as he shifted his gaze to the Masters.
They looked tired but were mostly unscathed, with the exception of their armor, which had a few holes here and there.
’It wouldn’t be a bad idea to take a rest, but the more we wait, the worse the situation could get.’
He took a deep breath and spoke firmly. "We don’t have time for breaks! We must continue on!"
Seeing that Eric was acting like a leader, a girl with pink hair—one of the Masters—grimaced.
"Eric, who do you think made you the leader?" she irritatedly asked as she pointed at Olivia.
"Grandmaster Olivia is the one with the highest rank here, so as such, she is the one that should give the orders, not you."
Olivia raised an eyebrow as she glanced at what was in front of them.
There was a mist that made it hard to see what was ahead, so probably the pink-haired girl was scared to go forward and wanted to waste time for the mist to clear off.
’Not that I could blame her...’
With a sigh, Olivia spoke, "I think I have already said that Eric is the one who will lead us, right? I have seen firsthand that he has a knack for creating plans for similar situations."
Hearing Olivia’s reply, the pink-haired girl grimaced but didn’t respond, as she knew there was no point in going against a Grandmaster.
After making sure that the cocoons and the spiders in the area were really dead and not playing dead—because some of the spiders were intelligent enough to play dead—they continued forward.
Stepping into the hard-to-see mist was like entering a new zone, this one much more dangerous and deadly.
Eric shifted his gaze to Olivia as he spoke, "Do you sense something?"
"No," she replied.
Eric grimaced. It wasn’t something he was proud to admit, but being surrounded by the mist didn’t give them the best visibility of their surroundings.
As such, should they be attacked, they could be taken by surprise.
He paused for a moment, imagining what would happen if they had to fight a colossal spider in this environment.
Suddenly, Olivia stopped. She was walking in the front, so when the other Masters saw her freeze, they did as well.
"What is it?" Eric asked, keeping his voice low.
Olivia grimaced as she spoke, "Colossal."
As soon as the words left her mouth, the ground began to shake. Each tremor came faster than the previous one. It was clear something big was running toward them.
Acting on instinct, Eric summoned his sword. Not a second later, the other Masters had summoned their weapons as well.
Before they could properly discuss their next actions, a white colossal spider, towering 200 meters, was already upon them with its jaws wide open.
Eric and his friends may have encountered these beings in the Colossal Forest, but they hadn’t fought them there, they had just used them as bait.
But right now, they had to fight against a Grade-5 monster.
Olivia, who had already summoned her bow-like weapon, launched a bolt directly into the spider’s mouth.
A second later, the monster took a step back as its mouth was ignited by the explosion caused by Olivia’s attack.
The Masters were looking at the creature, having doubts. The thing was so colossal that they had to tilt their heads upwards just to see its head. And they were supposed to fight something as big as this?
"Don’t hesitate! Attack!" Eric shouted as he dug his foot deep into the ground, tightening his muscles to their limit and shooting forward.
If he could just make a small scratch on the creature, it would doom it. The mission was to actually manage to scratch it and then survive long enough for the spider’s soul to be destroyed.
"How far is this thing?" he cursed as he ran with all his might.
Because the thing was so big, it was hard to judge the distance between the two of them.
"What are you spacing out for? Attack while it’s still alone!" Olivia shouted at the frozen Masters as she began to draw the string again, getting ready to fire.
Shocking off the fear they had felt, they all rushed forward behind Eric, getting ready to join the fight.
The monster screeched as its crimson eyes shifted their gaze to the nearest target—Eric.
Without hesitation, the creature raised its leg high in the air and brought it down, trying to squash Eric like a bug.
Seeing what the monster was doing, Eric cursed as he managed to change his dash to the side, narrowly avoiding the attack.
Meanwhile, Olivia had already fired a second bolt, hitting the monster right in the eye.
Eric, reaching the leg that the spider had used to try and crush him, slashed and made a large wound on the creature’s skin.
"It seems I am able to scratch it," Eric muttered.
The spider screeched in pain as it felt Eric’s ’Soul Flame’ take effect.
’With this, it may be doomed, but it will take some time to die, and during this time, the spider could injure one of us,’ Eric thought as he jumped onto the leg and began to climb.
He was determined to get rid of the creature as soon as humanly possible.
