World's Last Hope-Chapter 59: Good Morning
Eric was awakened by terrifying roars as the ground beneath him shook violently.
"What the hell?" he muttered, half-asleep.
His confusion was short-lived, however, when he heard another roar in the distance... this time, it was closer.
In the next instant, he was already up and had dashed away.
It seemed that having a giant monster scream loudly was the fastest way to wake someone up.
"What’s happening?" Eric muttered under his breath as he ran away from the violent sounds happening somewhere behind him.
There were roars of different creatures, one he recognized, it was the roar of the giant spider.
But the other one sounded unfamiliar to him.
"Never mind that—why is it getting closer?" he shouted as he continued sprinting.
Despite pushing himself with everything he had, it seemed the violent sounds were getting closer.
’It sounds like something’s fighting. Is it for food, territory, or some other reason?!’
There wasn’t anyone around to answer Eric’s question, so all he could do was continue his dash.
The roars came closer and closer.
Suddenly, a tree behind him shook violently as something crashed into it.
The tree began to tilt and fall.
Once it hit the ground, Eric was thrown into the air as the weight of the giant tree, which had collapsed, was enough to simulate a devastating earthquake.
Dust and debris rose high into the air, obscuring Eric’s vision, but even then, he was able to make out two silhouettes.
One was of a large spider, while the other was a bit smaller but clearly had wings.
"There really is a fight, holy shit!" Eric whispered as he shifted his gaze to the front.
’Faster! Faster! If I get caught up in the middle of this fight, I’m pretty much dead!’
With this thought, he pushed his body even harder, but it seemed hopeless, as the monsters and their fight were quickly reaching him.
Soon, he would be in the middle of a fight between two colossal monsters.
And again, this happened the moment he woke up! It seemed he really wasn’t destined to have a peaceful morning here.
Eric’s eyes widened as suddenly a giant creature was thrown to the side, crashing into one of the gigantic trees—again.
As the dust slowly began to settle, Eric was able to see what the creature looked like.
It had a body similar to that of a butterfly, though it wasn’t beautiful in any way.
Its dark wings were tattered and had patches of uneven hair.
It had three red eyes on its head, looking in every direction, not missing anything in sight., six small legs—well, small compared to the rest of its body.
In truth, these legs were dozens of times bigger than Eric himself.
The next second, a white spider revealed itself from the large amount of dust that had begun to obscure the surroundings and lunged at the butterfly-like creature.
Yet the terrifying butterfly didn’t seem fazed in the slightest, looking at its enemy.
Rather than trying to fly away, it answered the spider’s charge with one of its own.
The spider tried to bite, but the butterfly was faster. It crashed into the spider’s body, managing to tear one of its legs away.
The spider screamed in pain as it began to bleed profusely from its wound.
Eric was close to the exchange, and his body shivered as he watched the fight... No, not the fight—something else.
When the butterfly tore the spider’s leg off, the spider began to bleed from the wound.
And its blood, just like its smaller counterparts, was acid.
And that acid was now spilling in every direction.
So Eric found himself watching a tsunami of acid heading his way with devastating speed.
"Shit!" Cursing and acting on instinct, he saw no other way than to climb the giant tree next to him, so he did just that.
Jumping onto the tree, he gripped it as hard as he could, forcing himself to ignore the pain in his injured left palm. He climbed with everything he had, using sheer determination.
Thankfully, as he was in the presence of such strong creatures, several of his traits shined brightly, granting him strength, so he was able to use a strength he didn’t know he was capable of.
’How much? Is that enough, or will the acid reach me?’ Eric asked himself, but he didn’t dare to look back, fearing that doing so would be the end of him.
The tsunami of acid collided with the trees just below Eric’s legs. It seemed that he had managed to escape it, but he was still clutching the tree desperately.
Seeing that there was no other option, he climbed higher.
He was going to reach the lowest branch.
At least there, he would be able to wait out the fight that was happening around him.
As for how he was getting back down, he didn’t even dare to think about that.
The tree he was climbing suddenly shook as something collided with it.
Unable to contain his curiosity, he glanced back down.
His face lost color, and his blood ran cold as he saw that the giant white spider had collided with the tree he was climbing, and the creature was currently looking up.
Staring directly at him
’Shit, it saw me!’ Eric thought as he climbed even faster.
Letting out a terrifying roar, the colossal spider seemed to forget about the butterfly it had been fighting just a second ago.
Abruptly, it rotated its body and began to climb the tree with terrifying speed.
"It will reach me! It will reach me!" Eric thought, practically able to see his death coming.
But then the tree shook again as the butterfly suddenly appeared and crashed into the spider, which had turned its back to it, killing it on the spot.
Not wanting to be seen by the butterfly, Eric finally managed to climb the few hundred meters and reached the branch, managing to hide himself from the monster below.
"Good morning to you too, for fuck’s sake," he muttered, frustrated, as he massaged his forehead, feeling his entire body ache.
