World's Last Hope-Chapter 70: Second Cathedral
Olivia and Eric got into position as they shifted their gazes to where Aria was coming from.
A second later, she appeared, running so fast she seemed like a blur, yet the ground below her feet didn’t seem affected, as there weren’t even any footprints in the mud.
Behind her were about a dozen colossal monsters following her, all of them bearing injuries, some minor, others more major.
As if the thing hiding in the hole sensed her approach, it revealed some of its legs as it started to emerge from the hole.
She quickly sidestepped, moving faster than before. The colossal monsters lost sight of her but quickly shifted their gazes to the massive creature that was coming out of the hole.
"Let’s do it!" Olivia shouted as she and Eric both hit the tree with all the force they could muster. The tree shook and began to slowly fall towards the hole.
Not even waiting for a second, Olivia and Eric dashed toward the hole. Aria quickly joined them from the side
Completely exiting the hole, the manifestation of the corruption creature opened its massive jaws and let out a piercing roar. A moment later, it was already on one of the colossal monsters.
"Shit!" Eric cursed as he forced his body to move as fast as he possibly could. Shifting his gaze for a second, he saw that the tree was falling much faster than expected, so they wouldn’t be able to reach the hole before the tree obstructed it.
Or that was what was supposed to happen, until Aria suddenly moved between Eric and Olivia, lifting both of them with one hand each.
Increasing her speed several times over, she broke through the sound barrier, moving toward the hole with dizzying speed. Ignoring the deafening roars happening beside her, Aria moved as fast as she could. Finally reaching the hole she had created, she jumped down, still carrying Eric and Olivia in her hands.
Sensing his body falling down, Eric quickly threw a glance at the battle that was happening not too far away.
Only a second later, he narrowed his eyes in horror as he saw that the manifestation of the corruption had already killed all of the colossal monsters that Aria had spent so much time trying to lure.
In that split second, Eric’s crimson eyes met the hollow eyes of the cursed thing, and his body shivered.
The next moment, the tree fell above them, obstructing the hole.
Still in a daze, Eric shifted his gaze downward. There was about a 100-meter drop, and the ground unsurprisingly was filled with the acidic blood of the colossal spiders.
"It’s coming!" he shouted, trying to warn the girls that the thing had already managed to get rid of the colossal monsters.
"It killed them so fast?" Aria muttered in disbelief. These monsters that she had spent so long luring toward her had been so easily defeated?
But there was no time for thinking as all three of them landed in the acidic blood that was waiting for them at the bottom.
Feeling your feet starting to melt from the liquid was so painful that it was hard to explain.
But hearing the tree above being moved made them run, as adrenaline was going wild in their systems.
"Faster! Faster!" Eric repeated to himself as he pushed his body to the limits.
They had almost reached the gates of the cathedral. 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖
Suddenly, a loud roar echoed through the cave as the cursed thing finally managed to move the tree aside and jumped into the hole.
"FASTER!" Eric screamed as he placed his hands on the gates of the cathedral, along with the girls, and they forced the gates to open.
Stepping inside, they closed them as fast as possible, and the next second the cathedral shook violently as the manifestation of the corruption most likely collided with the gates of the cathedral.
Taking a deep breath, Eric was about to relax his body, but seeing the injured state of his comrades, he got an idea.
He possessed the miracle ’God’s Merciful Hand’ but had never gotten the chance to use it...
Acting on instinct, he put one hand on Olivia’s shoulder and another on Aria’s.
The next second, he felt power going from his hands to their bodies as their injuries began to heal.
Surprised by the fact that Eric started to heal them, Aria spoke, "You know I can do it fa—"
"Yes, I know, but I have yet to use this miracle, so I want to see how it would feel,"
This was one of the reasons he used it, despite Aria being able to heal them more effectively.
The other reason was that using miracles took energy out of you and made you feel lightened at the start, but pain if you overused it.
Eric didn’t want his comrades to feel pain, so he decided to heal their injuries.
The girls didn’t move as they felt their vigor being restored, and a few moments later, they were healed.
Aria then, in turn, healed Eric’s injuries as she saw that he wasn’t able to heal himself.
He was about to thank her until he observed the cathedral. His mouth opened a little in surprise.
The interior of the cathedral was hidden by some kind of menacing black substance that seemed to tremble from time to time, almost like it was some kind of living heart.
"So that is the corruption," he muttered in awe, the first time he had been knocked out, so now he was seeing the corruption for the first time.
"Yes, though here it is much worse than normally. I guess your system really didn’t lie when it said that it was truly impossible to liberate," Aria spoke as she shifted her gaze to Olivia.
"What do you think?" she asked, but Olivia didn’t seem to hear her as she began to walk forward towards the place where the pool that she had to cleanse with her soul was supposed to be.
The time had come for them to liberate a second cathedral.
