World's No. 1 Swordsman-Chapter 638: Feiyao Shows the Way
Upon seeing Lin Feiyao, Wang Sheng's mind raced. For an instant, he even considered taking his senior sister and leaving at once.
Lin Feiyao had once worked with Tan Lang in ambushing and attempting to kill Wang Sheng and Lishang. However, the two elders had some disagreements during that operation. She had intended to scheme against Wang Sheng midway, but by a strange twist of fate, Wang Sheng had shaken her off, causing her to miss the fierce battle that led to Tan Lang's death.
Afterward, Lin Feiyao concluded that staying at the Celestial Wind Sect was not worth it. She chose to show herself, withdrew without a fight, and left the thirteen qi planets far behind.
Unexpectedly, despite having traveled so far away and despite the vastness of the Eastern Sky Region, she still ran into Wang Sheng.
At that moment, Wang Sheng also thought, Why is she here?
Strictly speaking, his relationship with Lin Feiyao was not one of deep hatred. At most, there were minor grievances between them.
Lin Feiyao had appeared of her own accord back then to make peace with Wang Sheng and Lishang. Both sides had promised not to become enemies, and their karmic ties had effectively been severed.
She had originally been an elder of the Celestial Wind Sect, responsible for refining alchemical pills. After leaving the sect, it only made sense for her to seek refuge with the Qiling Immortal Sect, a sect famed for its alchemical pills.
Coincidentally, Lin Feiyao had always appeared in the Celestial Wind Sect as an old woman. She had changed her aura now, but she used the same youthful appearance as when she had first met Wang Sheng. Hence, he recognized her at a glance.
Wang Sheng had no choice but to remain cautious.
She now had the Qiling Immortal Sect behind her, and this was their territory. If she wanted to get revenge, it would certainly become an unexpected calamity.
Fortunately, Lin Feiyao merely paused in surprise, then narrowed her eyes with a light smile. "How did you end up coming all the way here for pills? I didn't expect you to have even heard of the Qiling Immortal Sect. Eh? You didn't bring Vice Sect Master Lishang with you?"
"She still has to hold down the fort," Wang Sheng replied calmly. "What a coincidence that you came here as well."
Lin Feiyao answered leisurely, "If I did not come here, where else could I go?"
Cha Yue asked curiously, "Sister, are you acquainted with this fellow immortal?"
"A little, yes. When I was wandering outside, I crossed paths with him several times," Lin Feiyao said as she stepped forward lightly, a trace of mischief glinting in her gaze.
She looked at Mu Wanxuan, clicked her tongue, and laughed. "I did not expect Daoist friend Pi to be such a passionate man. Lishang is not even by your side, and you have already found someone else."
Wang Sheng's mouth twitched slightly. "Fairy Feiyao, please do not misunderstand. This is my actual Daoist partner. Vice Sect Master Lishang is a close friend, not a romantic companion."
"I never quite trust what comes out of a man's mouth," Lin Feiyao said as she stepped closer. She bowed slightly to Cha Yue and handed two brocade boxes to her. "Sister Cha Yue, trade with them for the pills first. I will catch up with them afterward."
"Since they are your acquaintances, Junior Sister Feiyao, I won't charge too much," Cha Yue said. She pushed back the pouch containing the top-tier Immortal Stones and placed the two brocade boxes in front of Wang Sheng. "Daoist Friend, please take a look. These are the Three-Essence Enlightenment Pill and the Six-Aperture Dao Comprehension Pellets. Kindly inspect them."
Wang Sheng did not touch the pouch. Instead, he opened the two boxes and saw three jade bottles inside. He picked up a bottle, pulled out the stopper, and saw immortal light swirling inside. A multicolored stream of immortal qi rushed toward him, instantly clearing his mind.
Inside lay two pearl-like pills. Each had six tiny apertures, within which faint whirlpools seemed to spin. An indescribable Dao Rhythm flowed across their surface. They were only pills, yet they emitted an inexplicable allure, as though they possessed life of their own.
"Such excellent pills."
Wang Sheng and Yaoyun telepathically praised them almost simultaneously. For Yaoyun to give such approval meant these were truly rare treasures.
He quickly sealed the bottle again to prevent the medicinal power from dissipating.
Wang Sheng then handed the jade bottle directly to his senior sister. "Save one for Xiaomiao."
Mu Wanxuan nodded gently and put the bottle in her bracelet. She never hesitated or refused anything her junior brother gave her.
At the side, Lin Feiyao smirked and muttered, "You really are a hopeless romantic. Your skill at charming women is every bit as impressive as your sword technique..."
"Mm?"
Lin Feiyao blinked, drawing attention to her bright, spirited eyes. "Daoist Friend Pi, are you still lacking a Daoist partner?"
She clearly meant to steer the conversation with her teasing, unwilling to let Wang Sheng take the initiative in questioning her.
Wang Sheng smiled bitterly, fully aware that she was mocking him. Meanwhile, Cha Yue watched him with a faint smile, seemingly curious about his background.
Instead, Mu Wanxuan softly said, "Not lacking."
Lin Feiyao became momentarily embarrassed. She quickly added, "I'm just kidding."
Cha Yue rose as she said, "Why don't the three of you come to the rear courtyard teahouse and talk? We can just talk about the best pills later."
She then led the three to the rear courtyard of the Lingdan Pavilion, arranged a quiet room for them, activated an array that blocked outside probing, and then politely withdrew.
After Cha Yue left, Lin Feiyao set up another layer of array within the room. Only then did she breathe a soft sigh of relief. Her almond-shaped eyes widened. "Good thing I did not let anything slip! If the people of this sect learned that I once sought refuge with another celestial sect, they would think I disgraced their reputation. My comfortable days would likely be over."
Wang Sheng smiled. "Are the rules here really so strict?"
"It doesn't have that many rules, but its people are rather proud. Their tempers are much like my master's in the old days."
Lin Feiyao shook her head and sighed softly. Afterward, she sat down on a bamboo chair, glanced at Wang Sheng, then at Mu Wanxuan.
She frowned slightly. "Did you truly come here to obtain alchemical pills?"
"What else would we be here for?" Wang Sheng replied.
He gestured for his senior sister not to be overly tense. The two sat side by side across from Lin Feiyao.
Wang Sheng asked, "Why did you join the Celestial Wind Sect and help them commit grave misdeeds despite having such deep ties with the Qiling Immortal Sect?"
"While you saw the Celestial Wind Sect's actions as evil, many of its immortals believed you to be a ruthless fiend." Lin Feiyao chuckled, then sighed faintly. "My master used to be an elder of the Qiling Immortal Sect. After quarreling with several other people, he left the sect in anger and wandered through the Eastern Sky Region.
"About sixty or seventy thousand years ago, when his lifespan was nearing its end, he accepted me as his disciple, passed down his teachings, and strictly ordered me never to return to the Qiling Immortal Sect. When my master passed away many years later, I did not know where to go, so I joined the Celestial Wind Sect.
"After leaving the Celestial Wind Sect, I again had nowhere in particular to go. Hence, I simply returned here. Refining pills and studying medicinal arts here has been quite pleasant." Lin Feiyao then glanced at Wang Sheng. "Elder Pi, aren't you my bad luck? Somehow, you end up appearing before me again."
Wang Sheng only smiled. He then asked, "Is the Qiling Immortal Sect... very powerful?"
"More than powerful. It is far stronger than what you see on the surface," Lin Feiyao said calmly. "They have at least three or four Golden Immortals. The sect master is just deliberately releasing the Golden Immortal aura you can sense right now to deter troublemakers. Above the sect master stand one founding forefather and two grand elders, all of whom possess unfathomable cultivation.
"The Qiling Immortal Sect is famous for pill refinement and maintains an extensive network of connections. It still falls well short of the North-River Sword Sect among the Ten Great Sects, but no one wishes to offend a group of master alchemists. At any rate, life here feels extremely secure to me, and becoming a Golden Immortal seems well within reach."
Wang Sheng frowned slightly.
He had not expected more than one Golden Immortal to be on this planet. If his earlier deduction was correct, then the sect had turned the divine tree's mustard seed realm into a treasured land for growing spiritual herbs. If so, a Golden Immortal could very well be stationed there to guard it!
The thought made Wang Sheng feel a trace of lingering fear. To make matters worse, he had waved Spiritless around the surrounding space near that mustard seed realm without any caution earlier.
Noticing the subtle change in his expression, Lin Feiyao snorted. "As expected, you're not here just to buy pills. If I crush a jade talisman here, more than a dozen Heavenly Immortals will come here and kill you immediately!"
Mu Wanxuan's delicate eyebrows knit together as she quietly began circulating yin-yang qi.
Wang Sheng smiled. "Senior Sister, there is no need to worry. People who say such things usually intend only to threaten. If she truly wished to harm us, she would have summoned them already."
He then looked at Lin Feiyao and thought briefly. "Besides seeking pills, I came here for another objective. I am searching for a hidden location."
"A hidden location?" Lin Feiyao blinked lightly. "How could such a place exist on Qiling? Tell me the details. We became acquainted through conflict last time, and that still counts as some connection. If you consider me a friend, then let me help you think it through."
This woman changed her attitude remarkably quickly.
Finding it difficult to judge her, Wang Sheng remained cautious. He merely said that he had come under his grandmaster's instructions to search for traces of a senior expert.
Had Huai Jing not once said that the divine tree was located within the former residence of Emperor Qinghua? The mustard seed realm was very likely that very residence.
Wang Sheng said, "According to my grandmaster's calculations, that senior's residence should be somewhere near this star, yet I still haven't found it even after searching for it for a long time."
Lin Feiyao studied Wang Sheng for a moment, then sighed softly. "As expected, you have a powerful being backing you. Anyway, the place you are looking for contains no trace of that senior. It was abandoned long ago. The immortal sect discovered it more than a hundred thousand years ago and turned it into a medicinal herb garden.
"If that's what brought you here, you might as well return. As far as I know, there are no great experts inside it, only a cave dwelling left behind by its former owner."
Wang Sheng watched Lin Feiyao. He wanted to trust her, yet he could not fully convince himself to. "I still want to go in and take a look. Otherwise, I cannot report back to my grandmaster. From here on, let us simply go our separate ways and avoid interfering with each other. What do you think?"
Lin Feiyao frowned. "Do not act recklessly. There are many experts here, and you're only at the True Immortal Realm. Even the finest sword technique cannot make up for that gap in cultivation. Whether you live or die has nothing to do with me, but Cha Yue already knows that you and I are acquainted. Do not drag me into trouble!"
Wang Sheng smiled. "I would never do anything so foolish. I will try other methods and see whether I can find a way to enter and take a look."
He then stood and cupped his fists toward Lin Feiyao.
"Thank you for telling me all this."
Mu Wanxuan also cupped her fists in salute. Afterward, she turned to leave the room with Wang Sheng.
Lin Feiyao hesitated briefly. Just as the two turned around, she remarked, "I can point you toward a path, but you must answer one question first."
"Oh?" Wang Sheng turned back. "Tell me the question first."
"Back when I plotted against you and Lishang, why did you throw away the pills I gave you halfway through? Did I reveal some flaw at the time?"
"No, you didn't. I truly didn't suspect you; I just did it out of caution."
"Hmph, I knew I couldn't have made a mistake," Lin Feiyao said with a wave of her hand. "We are merely old acquaintances catching up now. Do not mention any of my past matters to others.
"The person who refined the Six-Aperture Dao Comprehension Pellets and the Nine-Essence Dao-Condensing Pills is the same individual. He is a renowned alchemist within the immortal sect and also one of the elders guarding the medicinal garden. If you can build a good relationship with him, you may obtain what you seek."
Wang Sheng respectfully saluted her. "Thank you."
He then dissolved the surrounding formation, pushed open the door, and left with his senior sister. Instead of following, Lin Feiyao remained seated quietly, deep in thought.
