Chapter 385: Chapter 385: Nurse, a patient has run away! _1

"Next time, maybe you can look at the patient’s medical history first, take out the task item, and then add on the other treatments," Green Plum Brews Wine said, not caring about his own disheveled appearance now that he’d thankfully found the bone. "The medical record has X-ray images, so you just need to look for similar ones."

"Yeah, okay, I’ll keep that in mind for tomorrow," Wang Linchi replied with an ’I’m-wrong-but-won’t-correct-my-ways’ look on his face.

This further frustrated Hand of God. At first, they thought Wang Linchi was just a bum, and helping him out wouldn’t be a big deal. Turns out, he’s capable but has a quirky personality. No wonder he’s been so outlandish from the start.

"Not tomorrow, start paying attention today," Hand of God said.

"Didn’t you see the looks North General and the other Players were giving us? They looked like they wanted to eat us alive," Green Plum Brews Wine commented.

Those Players, now designated as Nurses, had been assigned to clean the operating room Wang Linchi and his team had used.

What initially looked like a small pile was manageable; they could have just hauled it out. But they had made a mess while looking for the bone. They estimated they’d have to pull an all-nighter to tidy it up.

"Oh, I’ll keep that in mind for tomorrow," Wang Linchi replied nonchalantly.

After Glutton Ghost was sent back to the ward, they didn’t need to worry about him anymore.

"One person died; it seems the difficulty level isn’t trivial," Hand of God quickly changed the subject. Pressuring Wang Linchi, their temporary member, too much wouldn’t be fair. Who knows if he might run away then?

Wang Linchi also chimed in, "I’m sure it was just carelessness. How many of the first batch of Players brought in here could really have inferior skills?" 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞

Green Plum Brews Wine agreed with Wang Linchi’s statement, "No worries, the second batch of Players should be arriving soon. There will be plenty of them."

"Who knows. In any case, we have to take care of ourselves first," Wang Linchi said, not caring much about these things. His strategy wasn’t to cast a wide net but to shear one sheep thoroughly.

"It’s late; we should go back to our dormitory and not loiter outside," Hand of God proposed.

The dormitory offered some level of protection, sparing them from directly confronting various Erroneous Sins.

The intertwining rules of killing forced them to proceed cautiously, to avoid a total wipeout due to a moment of carelessness.

"I’m afraid we might be too late; we left a bit late," Wang Linchi abruptly said.

At the end of the corridor, a shadow was creeping towards them.

From the shadow’s form, it seemed to be human, but Hand of God and Green Plum Brews Wine couldn’t see clearly what it was—they lacked night vision.

Wang Linchi, however, saw clearly—it was indeed a person, charred like charcoal.

"It seems to be one of our patients," Wang Linchi said before either of them could speak. Burn injuries, after all, fell under surgery.

"Huh?" Before Hand of God could react, he saw Wang Linchi decisively hide behind him.

Suddenly, the shadow lunged, a foul odor accompanied by intense heat washing over them. Hand of God instantly activated a Skill to forcefully restrain it.

Now, both of them got a clear view of the figure. They involuntarily gasped as an overpowering stench assaulted their nostrils.

Luckily, both were battle-hardened and possessed high combat proficiency. They had experienced far worse situations, so they didn’t vomit. Instead, they turned and fled, making sure to take Wang Linchi with them.

Five seconds passed in a flash, and the immobilized Charcoal Man regained mobility, keenly pursuing the trio.

"Doctor, it hurts so much, can you... can you take a look?" the figure rasped.

"No problem. You should first go get checked... go for these tests..." Wang Linchi reeled off a series of items without hesitation, then added, "Remember to pay first. If there’s no money on account, I can refuse treatment."

The Charcoal Man was momentarily stunned. This kid is so methodical when it comes to tricking people!

"I don’t know how. Luckily, you’re free now, Doctor. Help me~" Charcoal Man drew nearer, a menacing undertone growing in his voice.

"No can do! I’m off duty. If someone reports me, my career will be ruined," Wang Linchi rebuffed.

The Charcoal Man, however, paid no heed and drew closer and closer to them. Sweat started to bead on Hand of God’s forehead.

His worst fear was facing an Erroneous Sin that didn’t follow the rules of killing and would attack at the slightest disagreement. Players couldn’t match them under normal circumstances. If there was no reasoning with them, there would be no chance of survival.

"Nurse, nurse! A patient has escaped!" Seeing this, Wang Linchi stopped arguing. The creature was clearly determined to kill them, so he resorted to his trump card.

A cold breeze swept through, and the figures of several nurses appeared at the end of the corridor, their faces concealed by darkness.

More importantly, they weren’t glamorous. Instead, they were covered in blood, with grotesque limbs extending from their backs.

The Charcoal Man, seeing this, turned and fled, no longer daring to continue pursuing Wang Linchi and his companions.

The corridor lights flickered. In the next instant, the group of eerie nurses vanished from the end of the corridor, only to reappear directly in the fleeing Charcoal Man’s path, blocking his escape.

In the darkness, the sounds of numerous limbs scraping and tearing apart flesh arose.

Meanwhile, Wang Linchi and his companions had successfully escaped.

"How did you know calling for a nurse would work?" Green Plum Brews Wine asked curiously.

"He violated the rules," Wang Linchi said without elaborating. Normally, if commoners don’t report, officials don’t investigate. However, Wang Linchi had reported him, so the Charcoal Man, who had left his ward without permission, was now in trouble.

Only medical staff were allowed to walk around the hospital at night, and the Charcoal Man was clearly not one of them.

"So that’s how it is. We were too muddled just now. But you’re certainly daring. Weren’t you afraid that after calling the nurses, they would deal with all three of us too?" Hand of God said, still a bit shaken.

"We were as good as dead anyway. It was worth taking a gamble. If we lost, it wouldn’t have been a real loss. But since we won, like now, didn’t we gain a lot?" Wang Linchi said.

"If you hadn’t operated without looking at the medical records, we wouldn’t be in this mess," Green Plum Brews Wine said quietly.

"Who told you guys not to remind me? I’ve always been careless," Wang Linchi retorted.

Hand of God intervened in their bickering, "It’s okay. We’ll just be careful tomorrow."

His meaning was clear: Green Plum Brews Wine should say less. Wang Linchi had been careless, true, but he was the one who completed the task. Green Plum shouldn’t nitpick; if he thought he could do better, he should have stepped up himself.

Green Plum Brews Wine fell silent. He found it hard to accept Wang Linchi’s tendency to be unreliable at critical moments. He was capable of handling things perfectly, yet he always seemed to miss some crucial detail. It was truly exasperating.

Fortunately, their journey back to the dormitory was uneventful. They managed to avoid the security guards and the Nurses. If they hadn’t, it would have caused a lot of trouble.

"Tomorrow, the two of us don’t plan on being in the department. Can you handle it on your own?" Hand of God asked.

"Probably," Wang Linchi answered carelessly, his attention fully on today’s spoils.

"Don’t say ’probably.’ Remember to look at the medical records before operating on a patient," Hand of God said, feeling helpless in the face of Wang Linchi’s attitude.

"Yeah, got it," Wang Linchi responded dismissively.

At this point, Hand of God felt he was almost getting used to Wang Linchi’s behavior.

"Sigh, just be careful tomorrow." Hand of God could only remind him, then said softly, "Don’t take what Green Plum Brews Wine said earlier too much to heart. He’s blunt, but he doesn’t mean any harm."

"I’m blunt too. If he can understand it, so can I," Wang Linchi parried, his voice also low.

"You really are..." Hand of God was at a loss for words.

"Alright, it’s time to sleep. Each of us takes a two-hour watch. We’ll need to wake up later to change shifts," Wang Linchi said, lying down on the bed and pretending to sleep.

Green Plum Brews Wine was on watch now, which was why Hand of God had said these things to Wang Linchi—partly as an apology to Green Plum Brews Wine. He naturally hoped the team could remain united, even if Wang Linchi was a temporary member.

"Yeah, get some rest," Hand of God said. He wasn’t sure if Wang Linchi had accepted his words or not, but he didn’t press the issue. Rest came first.

Nearby, Green Plum Brews Wine naturally heard them but didn’t react, feigning ignorance. He truly felt awkward speaking up about the matter.

He actually found it rather strange. Linyuan Fish’s actions weren’t technically wrong, but he couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off. Try as he might, he couldn’t pinpoint what it was. So, he could only remain vigilant and see if he could find any clues. It wasn’t that he was deliberately trying to make things difficult for Wang Linchi; he just felt a persistent sense of unease.
