Worldwide Awakening: My Soul Kinds Are Lost-Chapter 388: Whether It’s Fake or Not Doesn’t Matter, Trust is What Matters_1
"It’s really inconvenient without access to the Game System."
After handling the corpse of the furniture dealer, Wang Linchi calmly wiped his hands.
While it’s true they had no quarrels or grievances, their interests were at odds. Hence, Wang Linchi didn’t hesitate to kill him, making it impossible for him to resurrect.
"They must have communicated in the dungeon channel, which I missed." Wang Linchi quickly identified his oversight.
The main problem was that this oversight was irremediable unless he gave up the Experience Value he had on his game character.
"But now that I know, I can guard against it."
Wang Linchi believed his luck had kicked in again. Otherwise, he couldn’t have accidentally run into the furniture dealer and learned about this flaw.
"Finished so early today? Don’t want to hang around a little longer?"
At a corner, Wang Linchi ran into Green Plum Brews Wine. They had seen less of each other since the latter had been exploring other places, so he hadn’t had a chance to target Wang Linchi recently.
"Meh, I’m annoyed," said Wang Linchi.
This caused Green Plum Brews Wine to pause before recalling the incident in the dungeon channel.
"Don’t worry, that guy is just a trap."
"We can also confirm that the North General isn’t a fraud. Otherwise, he wouldn’t be able to use the dungeon channel." On hearing this, Green Plum Brews Wine’s suspicions about Wang Linchi immediately vanished. After all, Wang Linchi knowing about the dungeon channel meant he wasn’t a fake.
As for the possibility that Wang Linchi had learned about this from other Players, Green Plum Brews Wine dismissed it. After all, Wang Linchi kept to himself and didn’t interact with other Players.
"That guy is like a mad dog. I don’t even dare show my face, fearing I’ll escalate the conflict," Wang Linchi responded.
"That’s true. His temperament is truly wild, just like an arrogant protagonist from a novel, resorting to violence at the slightest provocation. Unfortunately, he lacks the protagonist’s strength. Hand of God gave him a beating, which taught him some humility," Green Plum Brews Wine agreed.
Seeing this, Wang Linchi quietly heaved a sigh of relief. He wouldn’t need to set up a deadly trap for Green Plum Brews Wine, which made things easier. Ironically, though, he had already set one up for another Player. Had he not encountered the furniture dealer, he would surely have blown his cover by now.
"Yeah, right. You think that temperament can be tamed? I bet he’ll continue to stir up trouble," Wang Linchi commented sarcastically.
This made Green Plum Brews Wine smile wryly. "We’re all compatriots here. There’s no need to be so calculative."
"We’ll see when he stops being calculative with me." Wang Linchi quickly changed the subject. He couldn’t talk about this anymore; any further discussion and he’d run out of intel. "Are you heading back to the dorm?"
"No, just passing by." Green Plum Brews Wine didn’t mention his destination.
"Where’s Hand of God?" Wang Linchi asked again.
"He went to Building 13. Seems like he found a clue." Green Plum Brews Wine didn’t know what Hand of God was up to, as they were operating separately.
"In that case, I’m the only idle one," Wang Linchi mused. This job isn’t bad at all.
"You’re being too modest. We can carry out outside tasks thanks to you; otherwise, we wouldn’t even meet our targets." Green Plum Brews Wine wasn’t stupid. Without Wang Linchi’s support, they would have no capacity to do other things.
Players with other roles can’t easily break away to investigate. The two of them, however, can freely roam the entire hospital. Although there’s danger, they fare much better than other Players, and this is naturally thanks to Wang Linchi.
"I can only say that our department’s quotas are generic. I wouldn’t be able to do anything otherwise," Wang Linchi denied, deflecting the credit.
While they were talking, Wang Linchi suddenly looked back.
"Have you been targeted?" Wang Linchi blurted out.
Since Green Plum Brews Wine doesn’t suspect me and even trusts me, as a top-tier information gatherer, I definitely can’t let him die.
"Do you have any clues?" Green Plum Brews Wine didn’t immediately deny it. Given his investigation’s trajectory, it was normal to be targeted by an Erroneous Sin.
"I just noticed something." When Wang Linchi looked back, that Erroneous Sin had hidden itself.
I know its location and strength, but I can’t say so directly. If even the second-ranked Player hasn’t noticed it, it wouldn’t look good for an unknown Player like me to know these things.
"What information do you have?" Naturally, Green Plum Brews Wine wouldn’t ask how Wang Linchi had noticed it; that was his secret. Instead, he asked what Wang Linchi had noticed, which was the key point.
"We can’t beat it," Wang Linchi said straightforwardly.
"Not just this one. We can’t beat the others either." Green Plum Brews Wine was somewhat speechless. If they could beat them, they wouldn’t be in this predicament.
"Be careful. I suggest not investigating today. Let’s return to the dorm and wait it out. If you end up dying, all our previous efforts will go to waste," said Wang Linchi.
Green Plum Brews Wine pondered for a moment and naturally didn’t refuse. "Alright, let’s retreat for the day. If it’s still after me tomorrow, we’ll find a way to make it jam."
If they couldn’t withstand it, they could at least hide. But if the enemy insisted on pushing them to their limits, they wouldn’t surrender without a fight.
The pair naturally quickened their pace and soon returned to their dormitory.
As expected, the Erroneous Sin had surreptitiously followed them and was now hiding, albeit in a rather awkward position.
"Does it not recognize glass?" Green Plum Brews Wine stared at the humanoid figure clinging upside down to the window.
It looked like a giant frog, plastered to the surface.
"Maybe it’s trying to frighten us," Wang Linchi said, trying to hold back a chuckle. It was his first encounter with such a bizarre creature.
"Even if it’s trying to scare us, it’s strange that it’s not moving. If we open the window, will it fall?" Green Plum Brews Wine asked.
"Let me try," Wang Linchi said, walking directly towards the window.
Just in time, Green Plum Brews Wine pulled Wang Linchi back, preventing his potentially suicidal action.
"No, no, no! It would be terrible if it attacked us." Green Plum Brews Wine was very calm. Though this Erroneous Sin’s behavior was utterly bizarre, it wasn’t something they could afford to provoke.
"Then let’s wait until tonight and call a nurse," Wang Linchi concurred, not genuinely intending to risk his life.
Seemingly triggered by the keyword, the upside-down giant frog-like creature instantly vanished with a WHOOSH.
"Good thing it has a brain. Scaring it off was enough," Green Plum Brews Wine said.
Once the reflection of the giant frog disappeared, Green Plum Brews Wine breathed a sigh of relief, but he had no intention of leaving. Who knew if it would continue to stalk him?
SQUELCH. SQUELCH.
The strange footsteps, sounding like webbed feet, were gradually moving closer.
Green Plum Brews Wine’s expression darkened. No need to guess. Not only had they failed to scare off the creature, but they had infuriated it. It had entered their dormitory building and most likely even their room.
"Don’t look up! If you do, it’ll trigger a plot-device kill," Green Plum Brews Wine warned without hesitation.
Such a killing rule was common, especially for Erroneous Sins that could climb walls or ceilings.
The most striking characteristic was that when it was on the ceiling, the creature would make strange noises to lure Players into looking up.
The moment you looked up, the creature would immediately kill you.
If you could resist the curiosity and not look up, the creature most likely wouldn’t be able to harm you.
"Let’s exit slowly and then..." Green Plum Brews Wine knew they had to protect Wang Linchi. Without him, their future would be far more arduous.
I can die, but Wang Linchi can’t. If I die, Hand of God can still take my place. But if Wang Linchi dies, no one can replace him.
"I don’t think that’ll work. The best strategy is to let them fight each other," Wang Linchi rejected Green Plum Brews Wine’s suggestion, adding, "There’s another one right outside the door."
"Looks like you specialize in perception and detection. How confident are you?" Green Plum Brews Wine asked.
"I’m not confident at all. You do it," Wang Linchi said, naturally maintaining his persona.
"Let me guess. An open-door-kill plus a look-up-kill... these two are bound to conflict." Green Plum Brews Wine plotted aloud, not minding that both Erroneous Sins overheard everything.
Because the Erroneous Sins had activated their killing rules, they were now locked into their programmed routines. As long as the two Players executed their plan correctly within these routines, they would be safe.
Aborting was impossible. They either succeeded or failed; there was no stopping midway.
The existence of such a bug was normal. After all, they were inherently erroneous rules; it was only natural for them to have problems. If there were no problems, they couldn’t be called Erroneous Sins.
"You look up, I’ll open the door. I’ll count three, two, one. Remember to dodge," said Green Plum Brews Wine.
The look-up-kill and the open-door-kill: if they reacted quickly enough to make the attacks of these two Erroneous Sins entangle, it would further cause the creatures themselves to become entangled. This way, even if the creatures didn’t jam, they could still successfully evade this crisis.
