Chapter 391: Chapter 391: Desert Trio_1

The morning after one hundred players arrived, a surprising additional one thousand players were thrown in. This kept Hand of God and Green Plum Brews Wine very busy.

Fortunately, the entire hospital covered a large area and dealt with a wide range of services, so there was no need to worry about accommodation. Moreover, not all of these one thousand players became patients. Many of them had roles like Nurses, nurses, doctors, and other related occupations.

Wang Linchi discovered that out of these one thousand players, about ten became doctors. Those who didn’t make it either died or were crippled. Only a few were able to leave in one piece.

However, this actually made things a bit easier for Wang Linchi. The Erroneous Sins that had been targeting him turned their attention to the newly arrived players, who were softer targets.

Most of the players became Nurses; some became patients. Being a nurse or a doctor were both challenging roles compared to these two. One could become a Nurse just by applying, and becoming a patient was even simpler—just register.

But this situation gave Hand of God and Green Plum Brews Wine a hard time. The advantage they had painstakingly built up vanished overnight.

If there had been only about one hundred people, they might have been able to control the situation in a short time. But with an additional one thousand, and some of the original players changing their minds, it was impossible to maintain control. In the end, they simply gave up. After all, in their opinion, the situation was completely out of control.

What was even more uncontrollable was the efficiency of Wang Linchi’s collector. With over a thousand players starting up simultaneously, it intercepted ninety percent of the resources that should have gone to the hospital. The only reason it wasn’t one hundred percent was that Wang Linchi deliberately left ten percent for the hospital.

I have to leave some trace if I want the hospital to take the blame for me. Otherwise, if I take everything, and the accounts are checked later, showing only book data with nothing actually in storage, how can I frame them? A quick check would reveal the truth, and the conflict I want wouldn’t happen. But if there are actual items in storage when the Game System checks the accounts, would the hospital be willing to accept that? Since they already have something to hide, they naturally wouldn’t agree.

"So, you want to exploit a bug through me?" Wang Linchi looked at the player in front of him, who was named Cactus Needle. He was a patient and had come to Wang Linchi for surgery.

"You’re a doctor, and I’m a patient. It’s quite normal." The plan Cactus Needle proposed was simple: they would repeatedly perform treatments on each other to stall for time.

"Nice idea, but why pick me?" Wang Linchi felt that the other party wouldn’t have come to him for no reason. He wouldn’t visit a temple without a cause; there must be something more to this than what’s on the surface.

Cactus Needle was a player from the second batch, far less skilled than those in the first. Only one player from the first batch had been killed by an Erroneous Sin; Wang Linchi himself had killed the other two. Starting with the second batch, more than ten players had died in just one day. The third batch would see even more casualties.

"Of course, it’s because you’re from the first batch of players," Cactus Needle said.

"Fine, fair point. But among so many players, why should I choose you?" Wang Linchi asked back.

He wasn’t really interested in playing house like this with Cactus Needle. The main issue was that this guy had obviously come prepared; despite what he said, he likely had other plans. With so many players, not all of them would act in the interest of the greater good or be good people. In fact, the majority of them had their own agendas.

"Because I’m the one who came up with the idea, and I’ll be the most cooperative. Other players might not be interested," Cactus Needle said proudly. The implication was that he would cooperate with Wang Linchi and not bother trying to complete the main quest or gain extra rewards.

"Hmm, a good reason indeed. But how do you plan to avoid punishment for being unproductive?" Wang Linchi asked another question.

He wasn’t a player, so he had nothing to worry about, but Cactus Needle was. His actions were akin to avoiding tasks. While the Game System wouldn’t penalize him at first, once a significant amount of time passed, Cactus Needle would definitely be flagged.

"I have my own ways to deal with that." Cactus Needle gave a mysterious smile, implying he had some tricks up his sleeve.

"Well, in that case, I won’t cooperate then," Wang Linchi said.

"Then let’s cooperate... Wait, you won’t? Why not? It’s a win-win situation for both of us!" Cactus Needle was stunned. He never expected Wang Linchi to reject the proposal outright. What was this about?

"Even though I don’t know what you’re planning by seeking me out, what makes you think I’m a fool?" Wang Linchi gave him a look that said, "You’re not even trying hard with your deceptions."

"Well... I have no plans. But if you’re unwilling, I’ll just find another player to collaborate with," Cactus Needle replied and got up to leave without hesitation.

Wang Linchi understood one thing: "Unsolicited attention means they’re either a traitor or a thief." At first glance, it seemed like the entire affair wouldn’t risk him anything, and he might even profit without any losses.

However, such propositions were inherently suspicious. While you’re eyeing their interest, they’re eyeing your principal. If he agreed, he might end up being their scapegoat. As for "pulling chestnuts out of the fire," Wang Linchi didn’t even know if what was in the fire were chestnuts or millet. How could he carelessly agree?

Perfect. I’ll follow him and see what sort of opportunity this brat is trying to bring me.

Minor troubles were unlikely to find him, so it was more likely some kind of opportunity. As for major trouble, if it was something big, its scope would be so large he wouldn’t be able to hide even if he wanted to. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺

Following the player, Wang Linchi quickly found his hospital room.

"Boss, the kid didn’t take the bait," Cactus Needle said after entering the room.

"That’s odd. Wasn’t he said to be lacking in ability?" another voice answered, filled with doubt. "I checked the forums, and this guy has no significant achievements. How could he resist this kind of temptation?"

"Telling me this is useless. He just wouldn’t agree, and there’s nothing I can do about it," Cactus Needle replied helplessly.

"Then let’s switch to another one. It’s not like he’s the only one. We just need a doctor player under our control; it doesn’t have to be him," another player in the room chimed in.

"He didn’t discover any weaknesses, did he?" the first voice asked.

Peering into the room, Wang Linchi saw three patients: Cactus Needle, Desert Scorpion (the so-called "boss," a burly middle-aged man), and a young man named Pyramid Reflection, who had suggested changing the player.

"No, don’t worry. For something this important, how could I leave any flaws?" Cactus Needle assured him confidently.

Listening outside, Wang Linchi was speechless. This young man lied without batting an eye; he looked like a hardened criminal.

"Good." Desert Scorpion didn’t inquire further. As an old teammate, he trusted him. Then he said, "Third Brother, go find another one to trick."

"No problem. I’ll get right on it," replied Pyramid Cactus.

"The hospital-wide assembly is tonight. If we don’t have a player with a doctor role to help, we’ll get stuck on the quest."

"Let’s wipe out all the doctors in the hospital, and I don’t believe the Dean won’t show his face," Desert Scorpion said, his expression sinister.

"Boss, can we pull this off?" Pyramid Reflection hesitated. The task was indeed challenging. Only a small portion of the participants in the hospital-wide assembly were players; the rest were all Erroneous Sins.

"What’s there to fear? It’s not the first time we’ve done this. We wiped out an entire mountain stronghold before using this method. Now we’re just replicating it," Desert Scorpion said, not seeming concerned at all.

Pyramid Cactus, who was beside him, really wanted to say that this time was different from the last. However, considering his boss’s ruthlessness and decisiveness, he reminded himself that these were precisely the reasons he followed him. Although the work was tiring and difficult, Desert Scorpion was also genuinely generous and never stingy with rewards. Otherwise, why would they do all this work for him?

"Alright, but I can’t help but feel something bad is going to happen," said Pyramid Reflection.

"What are you afraid of? Don’t we still have Plan B? If we fail, we’ll just shift the blame, letting the top two on the leaderboard take the fall for us," Desert Scorpion said, already having his own plan.

It wasn’t the first time he had done this. Success meant huge gains; failure meant diverting the fallout. Worst case, they die. It’s not like they can’t resurrect.

Therefore, the Desert Trio’s reputation wasn’t very good. However, they dared to gamble, and their methods were ruthless and decisive, so they lived much more comfortably than ordinary players.
