Worldwide Awakening: My Soul Kinds Are Lost-Chapter 409: Bones are like Three Hundred and Sixty-Five, Veins are like Nine Zhang and Nine_1
In the blink of an eye, another month passed. Wang Linchi’s life remained peaceful, and the young man named Zhang Ergou did not bother him again.
Unfortunately, the owner of the shop next door moved away for some reason, leaving the place vacant. This made Wang Linchi feel a bit lonely, as he no longer had someone to chat with daily.
As for being targeted, that was even more unlikely. He had no money, had offended no one, and caused no trouble; there was simply no reason for anyone to target him.
News about the man in the Dou Li also dried up, though Wang Linchi did hear that the head of the Cheng Family had been replaced.
This, of course, was Wang Linchi’s life on the surface.
Secretly, he had already built a large underground laboratory, where he had captured and imprisoned many individuals from the county’s Great Families.
He had done this primarily because he had nothing better to do, so he had resorted to researching Spiritual Bones and Spiritual Meridians.
The Spiritual Bones and Spiritual Meridians felt somewhat strange to Wang Linchi, as if they had atrophied.
As for Spirit Law, he couldn’t figure out its synthesis principle. It seemed to require undergoing certain Initiation Rites.
To Wang Linchi, the entire Transcendental System felt like a severely mutated and somewhat idealistic version of Confucian-Taoist philosophy.
By now, he had studied it quite thoroughly and found its value to be erratic, sometimes high and sometimes low.
In a low-energy world, its value was low. However, in a high-energy world, its value was high, even capable of producing some strange reactions in conjunction with him.
Wang Linchi planned to use Spiritual Bones and Spiritual Meridians to create a new body for himself.
Currently, he didn’t truly possess a body. He was more like a world embryo confined within a game character. His human-like appearance was entirely thanks to this game character; without this outer shell, he was just a large mass resembling colorful stones.
He had considered living his entire life within the game character’s shell, but it would inevitably be exposed one day. Therefore, it was better to construct an additional body for himself.
Besides, he was idle. The Reincarnation process had been fully charged with his spiritual power; all that remained was to search for a new world. If he found one, he could leave. If not, he would undoubtedly have to stay.
He could track the charging progress by percentage, but searching for a new world was purely a matter of luck.
Spirit Bones and Spirit Veins were innate. Once separated from a human body, they would instantly lose their activity due to environmental factors. More importantly, these things were of little use to Wang Linchi; a reaction didn’t necessarily mean they were usable by him.
After all, he was currently more akin to a silicon-based lifeform, while Spirit Bones were characteristic of carbon-based organisms, and Spirit Veins leaned more towards energy or soul entities. They were not compatible at all.
Transforming himself was impossible, so his only option was to modify the Spirit Bones and Spirit Veins.
A person could have a maximum of three hundred sixty-five Spirit Bones, and the longest Spirit Vein could reach nine zhang and nine chi.
How can people in this world have one hundred fifty-nine extra bones? Wang Linchi wanted to complain. And Spirit Veins nine zhang and nine chi long? People aren’t even that tall...
Of course, the experimental subjects he had on hand didn’t possess such incredible talent. The highest number of Spirit Bones among them didn’t exceed double digits, and their Spirit Veins were measured in chi, not even reaching a single zhang. Yet, even this level of talent was considered top-tier in Baihe County.
It made sense. A small place like this naturally couldn’t compare to the truly powerful Great Families, whose offspring were nurtured with various treasures while still in the womb and fed abundant resources from birth.
Since Wang Linchi wanted them, he naturally desired the best. Otherwise, such minor enhancements wouldn’t even catch his eye.
However, there was a significant problem: the growth period for Spirit Bones and Spirit Veins was fixed by the age of three. After that, they wouldn’t grow any further, making the initial phase critically important.
Currently, no methods were known to stimulate their growth post-development, at least not in Baihe County.
If Wang Linchi gathered enough data on Spirit Masters, he might consider going to the Capital. It was said that if you threw a stone there, you’d likely hit three Spirit Masters.
However, Wang Linchi didn’t want to go just yet. He hadn’t fully adapted. His game character was still only level 11, and he couldn’t summon the Saint Master yet. Flying by himself was exhausting and consumed substantial energy. Asking the memory constructs for help would also drain his own spiritual power, which wasn’t a worthwhile trade-off.
He could consider venturing out once he was stable at level 30.
He had also considered hand-crafting an airplane or a car, but that would be too conspicuous, and there was no need for it.
He just wanted to live a quiet life.
As he was narrowing his eyes, he saw Zhang Ergou walk past his Health Medical Hall carrying a large bag of medicinal herbs, followed by three burly men.
Is the Cheng Family after the prescription? This was Wang Linchi’s first thought.
That prescription was unusual. Zhang Ergou’s frequent trips to gather herbs must have attracted the attention of Huichun Hall or Shunmin Hall.
The Cheng Family’s pharmacy had previously offered to buy it, but Zhang Ergou must have refused; otherwise, this wouldn’t be happening.
The Cheng Family was careful about its public image. They wouldn’t likely target locals like Wang Linchi, who posed little economic conflict and whose harassment could damage their reputation.
The impoverished peasants from the surrounding villages, however, were a different story. The Cheng Family relentlessly exploited them, seeking to annex their lands.
Wang Linchi didn’t intervene. Zhang Ergou had that so-called Brother Bai looking out for him. And judging by Bai’s current medicine regimen, his physique was already far stronger than an ordinary person’s.
The three burly men looked imposing but lacked real substance. Their steps were unsteady; clearly, they had overexerted themselves the previous night.
A single jab to their kidneys from me, and they’d be too weak to stand, Wang Linchi mused.
As his thoughts drifted, he saw a young man walk in, dressed in clothes made of fine material. Combined with his demeanor, he was clearly no ordinary person.
"Seeking treatment?" Wang Linchi asked.
"Why else would I come to a doctor’s clinic?" the young man replied with a smile.
"No, no, that’s not it," Wang Linchi said. "There’s no problem with seeking treatment here, but it’s rather odd for someone like you. Why not go to Huichun Hall or Shunmin Hall?"
"I never thought I’d find a clinic that turns patients away," the young man remarked, intrigued.
"It’s simple. I mostly treat country folk here. They’re poor, my clinic is cheap, and sometimes I let them pay on credit," Wang Linchi stated candidly. "But someone of your standing really shouldn’t be here."
Wang Linchi understood his niche perfectly: he catered to low-income patients, not the affluent.
Of course, even catering to low-income patients, business was bleak.
"So, you’re quite the benevolent doctor, serving the people," the young man teased.
"Hardly," Wang Linchi retorted. "So please, seek treatment elsewhere. If I mismanage the treatment of an important person like you, I’ll be done for. Why don’t you go trouble Huichun Hall or Shunmin Hall? If they botch your treatment and take the blame, my life might even get a little easier."
"You truly are a strange one," the young man said, rather speechless.
He was certainly honest, yet also undeniably pragmatic. There was an air about him, like coarse fare unsuitable for a grand banquet.
"Fine, have it your way. I won’t get treated then. I’m not sick anyway." The young man didn’t press the issue, waved his fan, and left the Health Medical Hall. It was clear he had come in to hide, not genuinely seeking treatment.
After the person left, Wang Linchi muttered under his breath, "Where did that young lady come from? Her disguise as a man is so obvious."
Yes, that person was a woman. If she had entered openly, Wang Linchi might have treated her. But her furtive behavior was suspicious, and he had no desire to invite trouble.
It wasn’t as if he felt compelled to get involved just because she was a woman.
...
"The Cheng Family has indeed made its move. That prescription is just too valuable." After killing the three burly men, a cold glint flashed in Bai Changsheng’s eyes.
Zhang Ergou was unharmed; he himself, however, had been targeted by the thugs.
I must find a way to deal with the Cheng Family.
Bai Changsheng was just one step away from becoming a Spirit Master, but he was incredibly frustrated because he had no way to undergo the Initiation Rites.
To undergo the Initiation Rites, there were three paths: the clan school, a private school, or the official Academy.
He had to enter one of these to learn. His village was impoverished and couldn’t support a clan school. Being poor himself, he couldn’t afford a private school either.
So, his only remaining path was the Court’s Academy. However, admission required either exceptional talent, warranting a special concession, or passing an entrance examination.
Most commoners entered through the latter.
For Bai Changsheng, the examination was also his only choice.
"To think that someone so young, who hasn’t even undergone the Initiation Rites, could possess such skill. Truly impressive," a voice suddenly remarked.
"Who’s there!" Bai Changsheng whirled around to see a young man.
The young man had a delicate, almost feminine appearance.
"You must be a local, right?" The young man’s eyes twinkled mischievously. "Help me with something, and I won’t tell anyone what I saw."
Bai Changsheng was thoroughly disgusted. Why would a grown man make such an expression?
