Worldwide Awakening: My Soul Kinds Are Lost-Chapter 456: Wolf God Takes Action, Special Divine Power Structure_1
"It’s just a minor injury, nothing to worry about." Wang Linchi managed a weak smile, his face pale. From the outside, his injuries indeed did not appear grave. Off to the side lay the mutilated corpse of a giant wolf.
This was certainly not the Wolf God, the Sky Wolf. As a god, it wouldn’t leave a body behind upon death; it would merely vanish. The corpse was something Wang Linchi had materialized from memory, specifically to leave as evidence.
"Sir, you were reckless this time! You shouldn’t have gone head-to-head with this Demon God," Li Zheng lamented as he arrived. His interests were deeply intertwined with Wang Linchi’s, so naturally, he didn’t want anything to happen to him. He hadn’t come alone; ten airships had accompanied him as combat support. To his astonishment, by the time he got there, the Wolf God had already been slain by Wang Linchi.
"It wasn’t reckless. Take the corpse back with us. We’ll use it to further undermine the belief in the Wolf God, helping the Hu Lu to fully integrate into Dajing," Wang Linchi stated.
The soldiers began the arduous task of moving the corpse. Li Zheng, however, still looked worried. "Even if you want to undermine the belief in the Wolf God, you shouldn’t have taken such a risk."
Li Zheng understood Wang Linchi’s thinking: he simply needed an excuse to act. After all, the belief in the Wolf God was deep-rooted and couldn’t be eradicated by force without risking a backlash. However, Wang Linchi now represented the interests of numerous factions. If anything happened to him, the entire northern interest group would immediately splinter and descend into Chaos. Wang Linchi shared the spoils with everyone, which was why they supported him. If someone else took over, who knew if they might harbor ulterior motives? Thus, chaos would surely erupt.
"To cherish one’s life too much when attempting great deeds, or to forget righteousness for petty gains—these are cardinal sins." Wang Linchi wasn’t about to reveal that he could dispatch the Wolf God single-handedly; saying so would sound like outrageous boasting.
Li Zheng fell silent. He thought that if that was truly Wang Linchi’s conviction, then his success was only natural.
"Let’s not delay. We should head back. Once we return, summon the heads of all the Great Families. I have instructions for them," Wang Linchi said, boarding the airship first.
He had other matters to attend to, having confined the severely wounded Wolf God within his storage space. Fortunately, the Wolf God wasn’t a conventional life form and could survive in the storage space. With his defender and the Saint Master jointly guarding it, he didn’t have to worry about the Wolf God causing trouble there after recovering.
However, it had to be said, this Wolf God was indeed extraordinary. Even when critically injured and near death, it was slowly recovering, seemingly by drawing upon faith. Wang Linchi had attempted to intercept this, but his efforts weren’t very effective. At least, the storage space couldn’t block the influx of faith, likely because Wang Linchi used it merely for storing items, not as a specialized prison.
After several attempts, Wang Linchi shifted the storage space’s location, embedding it within his own body, which resembled Colorful Stone. Only then was the influx of faith completely cut off.
Li Zheng quickly followed and arranged for a Spirit Master to heal Wang Linchi, but he refused.
"This injury isn’t something a Spirit Master can heal. The Wolf God’s Divine Power can only be worn down by me, bit by bit," Wang Linchi explained, prompting the Spirit Master to depart.
Upon hearing this, Li Zheng grew even more worried. "Sir, when will your injury be healed?" he asked. Wang Linchi was crucial to vast interests, a fact known not only to Li Zheng but to many others as well.
"When my injury heals depends on when we begin our operation," Wang Linchi replied, though most of his attention was focused on the Wolf God within his storage space.
Using his Thought Field, Wang Linchi continuously analyzed the Wolf God while idly chatting with Li Zheng.
Externally, apart from its fur color and size, the Wolf God didn’t differ much from an ordinary wolf. However, there were no flesh, bones, internal organs, or blood inside its body. Instead, it was a single, unified substance. This was similar to Wang Linchi himself, who was composed entirely of Colorful Stone, inside and out. The Wolf God, by contrast, had an textured exterior, while its interior was filled with a gel-like substance. The initial assessment was that this was a high concentration of Divine Power.
This Divine Power was likely the sum of all faith accumulated from the Northern Barbarians over many years—the Wolf God’s entire reserve. Its appearance this time was explicitly to kill Wang Linchi; otherwise, the Wolf God itself faced a slow death. Wang Linchi had long been making arrangements, causing parts of the Wolf God’s faith to waver. If this trend continued, its complete downfall was inevitable.
The Wolf God hadn’t expected Wang Linchi to forgo the more cautious approach of slowly weakening it. Instead, Wang Linchi opted to cut directly to the chase.
Attempt disassembly.
After the initial analysis, Wang Linchi immediately decided to proceed with disassembly. The Wolf God was not a carbon-based life form but rather an energy-based one, similar in nature to the Elemental Giants after Full Elementalization. The disassembly process went smoothly; the wolf, unable to resist at all, dissolved into a large, floating mass of gel.
Divine Power... Still unusable. It has directionality. Wang Linchi analyzed its characteristics. This was something he could neither use nor devour; only the Wolf God could wield it. People believed in the Wolf God, the Sky Wolf, not Wang Linchi. If he forcibly devoured or used it, not only would he fail to achieve the desired effect, but it would also backfire, turning his feigned critical injuries into actual minor ones. He didn’t mind being injured, but doing so would mean losing a valuable sample.
Fortunately, there’s some good news. The Divine Power itself is like the Wolf God’s genetic code; it contains the corresponding structure.
Wang Linchi breathed a sigh of relief; he had genuinely worried that he would gain nothing apart from this Divine Power. If he reassembled the dismantled Divine Power, it would once again take the form of the Sky Wolf. This was its preset appearance, the physical manifestation of the Divine Power’s structure.
It seems I’ll need to guide the faith properly in the future; otherwise, the appearance will become very strange.
Or, more simply, I’ll decide my own appearance. Wang Linchi didn’t care much about his appearance, but having human skin would make traveling between worlds easier.
I can’t be led by the nose by faith and Divine Power. The Demon God System is fuel for my own system, not the other way around where my system becomes an appendage to the Demon God System.
Wang Linchi naturally did not intend to follow the path of godhood or the way of incense offerings. He merely planned to leverage the strengths of this system to compensate for his own weaknesses.
As they were chatting, Li Zheng suddenly interjected, "Just now, a message came from the Capital. His Majesty has adopted Duke Qing’s eldest grandson as his son and established him as the Crown Prince."
Hearing this, Wang Linchi refocused.
"Adopted? Isn’t His Majesty not yet twenty? Why adopt already?" Wang Linchi was puzzled.
"It’s unclear why for now," Li Zheng continued, still looking doubtful. "His Majesty isn’t a weak person, nor does he seem like someone who can’t have offspring. This has caused quite a stir in the imperial court."
"Wait, Duke Qing’s eldest grandson... isn’t he already twenty-four? He’s older than His Majesty, isn’t he?" Wang Linchi recalled, inwardly stunned. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎
It’s a classic case of a junior branch of a family producing someone of an older generation, and such was the situation with the current Emperor Jing.
"Yes, so ethically and in terms of generational standing, there’s nothing improper about His Majesty’s decision." Li Zheng’s eye twitched. A son older than his father—the situation was indeed utterly bizarre.
However, bizarre as it was, there wasn’t much opposition in the imperial court, primarily because Duke Qing’s eldest grandson was known to be mediocre and easily swayed. For the high officials and dignitaries in the court, this was good news. They couldn’t understand why the formidable Emperor Jing would choose someone with a temperament so completely at odds with his own. But they did know one thing: once Emperor Jing died, it would be easier for them to control the new emperor after he ascended the throne. So, despite the uproar in the court, no one voiced any real opposition.
Something’s fishy. Wang Linchi couldn’t immediately figure out what Emperor Jing was planning, what scheme he was concocting. It seems I’ll have to accelerate our strategic arrangements in the North.
Wang Linchi also grew wary. Given Emperor Jing’s personality, he wouldn’t make a pointless move; there had to be some deeper meaning behind it.
"This is a private matter of the royal family; we shouldn’t get involved," Wang Linchi said aloud, even as he mentally activated the memory body he had left in the Capital.
"Yes, Sir." Hearing Wang Linchi’s words, Li Zheng knew the topic was closed. Discussing it further would indeed be inappropriate and risk causing offense.
After that, Wang Linchi resumed his analysis of the Wolf God, the Sky Wolf, and silence descended between them. With Wang Linchi not speaking, Li Zheng, as his subordinate, certainly wouldn’t venture to resume the conversation.
