Worldwide Awakening: My Soul Kinds Are Lost-Chapter 607: Beautiful New... What Bizarre World Is This? _1
"One third of the world, the entire federal civilization, the genuine History of Time, a resilient human skin, and a complete civilization computer," Wang Linchi mentally inventoried. "And a smashing, pain-inducing Tai Mountain Seal."
He took stock of his gains, having just fled the day before. He had watched as the End of Law World pulverized the entire Nine Extremes Heroic Spirit World, which resembled a humanoid figure, sending debris flying everywhere like scattered mincemeat. He seized the opportunity to consume one-third of that world. The reason he didn't continue was that the Calamity of the Last Law and the Annihilation Disaster were gradually merging, forming something even more terrifying. Wang Linchi called it Deathly Silence. The good news was that this entity, due to the collision of the two worlds, had been knocked off course to who-knows-where. So, he didn't need to worry about it latching onto him. Of course, this was because he had withdrawn quickly; if he had been any slower, he might indeed have become entangled with it.
He had now arrived in a new world. The good news was that this world was no longer an Apocalypse World. He had used a coordinate search method that excluded apocalypses as a fundamental logic, so the world he arrived in was very calm—a modern urban world. The technological level was around that of the Millennium, but its energy level was a bit high, which puzzled Wang Linchi. Due to his own increase in power, when choosing an identity this time, he was no longer limited to a few options but could directly pull up the entire catalog and select for himself.
What a great world! This time, I can finally slack off completely! Wang Linchi was overjoyed.
Unfortunately, because his own 'mass' was too large and he wasn't yet adapted to this world, he knew little about its current situation, only that its World Energy Level was high.
[Destiny · Unprecedented Divine Doctor]
[Destiny · Dragon King's Son-in-law]
[Destiny · Queen of the Night]
[Destiny · Flower in Prosperous Age]
[Destiny...]
When Wang Linchi pulled up the list, the outrageous identities left him completely dumbfounded.
I think I've figured out why the energy level of this modern city is so high...
Damn it, can't I even slack off in peace anymore?
With this dense crowd of protagonists, all prefixed with 'Destiny', I suspect this place is riddled with problems. Initially, it'll probably just be about showing off and face-slapping in the city. Then, all sorts of Martial Artists, Metahumans, and Cultivators will crawl out from every corner. Later on, who knows, maybe even characters like some Chaos Divine King or Heaven-Defying Sword Emperor will appear. 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚
In the end, Wang Linchi had to scroll to the very bottom and select an ordinary office worker: no friends, no relatives. His defining characteristic was a single-page household register; his days consisted solely of going to work and coming home. The company he worked for wasn't filled with beautiful women; it was just a regular small company. The only woman there was the cleaning lady, already in her sixties.
This is the first time I've encountered a world with so many protagonists. What on earth is going on here? Wang Linchi was somewhat perplexed. Even one protagonist represents a terrifyingly large drain on resources. Now, with such a dense concentration of them, it's truly incredible that the world hasn't been squeezed dry.
[Player: ***]
[LV1: (0/???), Max Level: ???]
[Occupation: Saint Monarch]
He opened his human-skin game character interface again. After fusing with the Heroic Spirits, he had naturally gained more abilities and improved in quality. This time, however, he hit a wall.
The Experience needed to level up is unknown, the maximum level is unknown, and its energy level is high. It seems acquiring all the data for this world will take a considerable amount of time.
Realizing this, Wang Linchi felt he should be even more low-key.
I'll just have to be an ordinary person for a while.
He didn't mind living such a quiet life. After all, he had acquired plenty of resources from the previous world, so he had no concerns about needing to become stronger; he had numerous projects for self-improvement lined up.
But I can't keep toiling like an animal in this small company; I need to start my own business.
The identity Wang Linchi had chosen was fine, but he couldn't possibly go to work every single day. If he could slack off at work, he'd happily go. However, not only could he not slack off, but he was also constantly exploited. It would be better to set up a street stall... No, that doesn't seem quite right. If all else fails, he could just rely on his luck and play the stock market again. Anyway, for him, none of this posed much difficulty.
The substitution completed quickly, and Wang Linchi successfully integrated into this peculiar world. His clothes transformed into an ordinary style, and his appearance became that of a harried, sub-healthy white-collar worker.
Life is quite good. The only downsides are not being able to afford a house, a car, a wife, or kids. Plus, after paying rent, utilities, phone bills, and food expenses each month, all that's left are a few coins.
Having absorbed the memories of this Cattle and Horses, Wang Linchi couldn't help but marvel at how precisely his salary was calculated; it was difficult not to live paycheck to paycheck. If he fell ill in any given month, he'd have to take out a loan or somehow scrounge up money to get by. Luckily, this Cattle and Horses was also very sensible: enduring minor illnesses and resigning to fate for major ones, keeping medical expenses at virtually zero.
Tomorrow is another workday. Perfect, I'll go resign then, Wang Linchi thought, looking around his small, extremely basic rented room. It was so spartan that even he found it a bit hard to look at. There weren't many belongings, just daily necessities, and nothing more. Large appliances like a refrigerator, television, or kitchen hood were out of the question. His communication device was a mobile phone—not a smartphone, as those hadn't appeared yet, but an old-fashioned keypad model.
Fortunately, his predecessor, this Cattle and Horses, didn't need these large appliances anyway. He worked from eight in the morning until eleven at night. After coming home, washing up, and eating, it was already midnight. He would go straight to bed and get up at seven in the morning, commute for half an hour to reach the company, and then start work. So, these appliances, much like the natural light in the rented room, were completely unnecessary for his predecessor, this Cattle and Horses.
As for holidays, he got one day a month, and sometimes even that wasn't guaranteed; it would be shifted to compensatory leave. When that leave could be taken was uncertain, but it was certain that even if he didn't get the day off, he wouldn't receive triple pay for overtime.
It wasn't that the Cattle and Horses (his predecessor) didn't want to quit. However, if he did, he might not find another job and could potentially starve. So, he had no choice but to grit his teeth and keep slogging away. Although the profits went to the company and his wages to the landlord, at least he was surviving.
Strange. Logically, this is a modern society; it shouldn't be possible for people to starve or fall into such dire straits, Wang Linchi mused, feeling rather puzzled.
Unless...
Wang Linchi couldn't help but think of that long list of protagonists—male, female, possibly even involving female-oriented genres with characters like Overbearing CEOs or matriarchal figures. These types generally belonged to the upper echelons of society. This implied that the elite group at the top of the pyramid was very large, ruthlessly exploiting those below, which led to such conditions at the bottom. Consider an Overbearing CEO who casually spends a fortune on some innocent young woman without making a dent in his family's wealth. Where do those costs go? It's obvious, without needing to think too hard, that they're transferred to the middle and lower classes.
Thinking about it, that's a real possibility. Perhaps even a scenario where an Overbearing CEO launches a nuclear bomb as fireworks for his girlfriend's birthday could happen here.
Wang Linchi couldn't help but snark internally, thankful he hadn't chosen a protagonist-type identity; otherwise, he really might have run into trouble.
"Yan Ming King, Ye Tian, and the others must be kept tightly under wraps; don't let them out, or they're bound to suffer," Wang Linchi muttered quietly.
Within him now converged the civilizational histories of all the worlds he had experienced. Protagonists, supporting characters, and villains were just the basics; there was an entire, complete civilizational structure operating via the civilization computer. Originally, he had thought that once his compatibility was higher, he could send out some of his Family. But now, he realized that wouldn't do; it would be too easy to cause trouble. If he happened to provoke someone he shouldn't, leading to his family's destruction and his own death, that would be one thing; but if he were thrown into prison to turn a sewing machine, that would be truly disastrous. With such a host of powerful individuals around, the existence of Great Families, Secret Organizations, and the like was almost guaranteed.
Although not all protagonists bearing a Destiny were involved in grand schemes—some had lifestyle-focused Systems like the God Tycoon System or Space Farming—their sheer number was undeniable. Wang Linchi counted them: a total of five hundred forty-seven.
Huh, why is one missing? Wang Linchi suddenly noticed there were only five hundred forty-six. That shouldn't be right. He carefully compared the list again.
Could it be they underwent Ascension...
Wang Linchi checked. The missing one had a Sign-in System; they had probably "changed maps." Otherwise, it was impossible for them to vanish into thin air. Each of these protagonists had their own demarcated territory. Due to the isolation effect of Fate, they wouldn't interact with, or even perceive, other Fate bearers.
Eh, three more have been added... So, there's no fixed number.
Looking again, one was gone, but three new ones had appeared, bringing the total to five hundred forty-nine.
