Writing Web Novels In America-Chapter 162 - 160: Instructions
Chapter 162: Chapter 160: Instructions
In the slightly chilly spring breeze, a black Ford van slowly pulled up on the streets of Flushing.
James rolled down the window and gazed at the office building not far away, sighing softly.
That Asian writer could wait, but they really couldn’t afford to.
The recent capital market movements made Disney’s intent to take over abc increasingly apparent.
They needed to produce and broadcast a highly rated TV show before everything became irretrievable.
And all of this required time!
James took a briefcase from his lawyer who was beside him, "Is everything in here?"
"The videotapes and the project proposal are all included."
He nodded, pushed open the car door, and walked toward the office building.
A few minutes later, inside the office.
Wang Jian greeted his visitor with genuine sincerity and even gave James a warm embrace.
"Mr. Wang, have you considered licensing ’Anomalies and Creatures’ for abc to produce?"
"I am truly honored that abc sees the value in ’Anomalies.’" Wang Jian invited him to sit down and personally poured some coffee, "However, when I created this work, there were many aspects I hadn’t fully considered."
"Several newspapers have reported that ’Anomalies’ is suspected of plagiarizing ’Galaxy Guide.’"
"How could that be?" James looked surprised, "How can those unscrupulous media defame such an excellent work just for circulation?"
"No, no, no." Wang Jian shook his head, "There are similarities."
"For instance, they both have male and female protagonists, aliens, and so on." He looked solemnly at James, "The key point is, they both feature spaceships!"
Seeing the seriousness on the other’s face, James silently cursed.
This kind of beating around the bush did not serve his interests.
He could only sip his coffee and casually shift the topic, "I wonder if Mr. Wang has heard, a big event occurred last night in Los Angeles, the offices of the ’Los Angeles Post’ were even attacked!"
"The abc reporter in Los Angeles just happened to be passing by there and captured this dramatic scene."
"Mr. Wang Jian, would you be interested in watching this unedited, raw footage?"
"Oh?" Wang Jian raised an eyebrow, speaking sternly, "Attacking a newspaper? That’s a crude violation of freedom of speech!"
"Who would have thought such violence could occur in Angel City." freēwēbnovel.com
After saying this, he looked eagerly at James, "Then... shall we criticize it together?"
James shook his head seriously, pulling out a videotape.
"Mr. Wang, take a closer look at the tape and you won’t think the same way."
"The ’Los Angeles Post’ is suspected of discriminating against women, certain religions, and HIV patients. Its attack is actually the best commentary on American freedom and equality!"
As the tape was inserted into the machine, snowflakes appeared on the TV screen.
Then, several vague figures appeared.
"Where are you from?"
"Students from Caltech, members of the Women’s Rights Protection Association."
"And you?"
"Followers from a certain religion in Compton."
"Abc only mentions discrimination, what exactly did this newspaper discriminate against?"
"I’m not really sure." A young Caucasian shrugged, "Anyway, it must have discriminated against something."
At that moment, a set of pearly white teeth appeared on the camera, "It must be African-Americans! This is a repeat of the Rodney King case!"
"We must teach those arrogant Caucasians a lesson with our actions!"
The remaining people exchanged glances, "Never mind, we are all anti-discrimination anyway!"
Then, the camera shook violently.
"Robbery! Call 911 quick!"
"What robbery? We’re engaging in anti-discrimination action!"
"Fuck! That’s my desk!"
"I want this coffee machine!"
"We’re stealing the computers to stop you from producing discriminatory articles!"
"But, we haven’t discriminated against Black people!"
"What Black people? It’s African people!"
Finally, amid someone’s screams, the videotape ended.
Wang Jian, looking troubled, took a sip of his coffee. "Mr. James, what exactly has the ’Los Angeles Post’ discriminated against?"
Hearing this, James took a deep look at Wang Jian.
After a moment, he also picked up his coffee and took a sip.
"We’re not quite sure either."
"So, ABC is planning to use this incident as an opportunity to launch an in-depth report."
"In the report, ABC will inventory all the discriminatory remarks of the ’Los Angeles Post’."
"I wonder if Mr. Wang thinks this approach is feasible?"
Wang Jian pondered for a moment and finally cracked a slight smile.
"Ah, I got a bit too excited seeing Mr. James visit," he stood up, walking over to the other man, "I forgot to ask if you would like milk or sugar in your coffee."
James put a sugar cube in his coffee and took a sip.
"Don’t you think now might be a good time to discuss the rights for ’Anomalies and Creatures’?"
"Of course," Wang Jian said with a smile as he returned to his seat, "After all, the ’Los Angeles Post’ doesn’t really matter much to us."
"I just wonder what ABC expects from ’Anomalies and Creatures’."
Finally getting down to business, James perked up.
He pulled out a document and handed it over. "This is ABC’s plan."
"We have already convinced Michael Bay, who is proficient in using explosive effects, to direct certain scenes."
"As for the comedic day-to-day, it will be managed by the current executive director of ’Seinfeld’."
"Some of the grand special effects shots will be handled by George Lucas’s Industrial Light & Magic."
"As for regular combat weapons, we’ve already used connections to contact the Pentagon."
Holy shit, the Pentagon?
Wang Jian inwardly exclaimed, "Truly worthy of ABC, one of the big three television networks, this reach and network..."
It’s enough to send HBO, a fellow broadcaster, all the way to Alaska!
Wang Jian flipped through the document to see that some lesser roles would be provided by the famous talent agency CAA as a package deal.
As for the lead role, it would be jointly selected by himself as the ’original’ author, ABC’s producer James, and several directors.
Of course, the most exaggerated were the time and venue issues.
The agreement stated that auditions would be held within three days after the rights had been granted.
And the shooting locations would span the entire United States, from Miami Beach to the snowy fields of Alaska.
Even including the highly secretive Area 51.
"Isn’t this a bit too fast?" Wang Jian looked at James.
"Our scheduled airing time is every Friday at eight o’clock in the evening," James shook his head, "And CBS, in the same time slot, airs ’Everybody Loves Raymond’."
"Though ’Raymond’ has reached hot drama status as soon as it was aired, it hasn’t yet reached the popularity level of ’Friends’."
"ABC’s plan is to use a space comedy to bring down this family sitcom!"
