Writing Web Novels In America-Chapter 80 Each’s Night
Chapter 80: Chapter 80 Each’s Night
Three hours later, the dinner ended.
Wang Jian sat in the back seat of the car, looking at Tom driving and reflecting on the recent events.
Random House’s ambitions were certainly not limited to the novel "Arcane Throne" alone.
They sought to establish in-depth cooperation with the website and publish physically those works that had already proven to be popular.
The terms they offered included providing a portion of the physical books at cost, as exclusive offerings for website fans.
For the remaining volumes, they would calculate the distribution numbers and royalty splits according to a specific formula.
Upon hearing this proposal, Wang Jian’s first reaction was: hadn’t the Six Major Publishers already formed an alliance to swoop in on those grassroots authors?
But a young man remaining in the room smiled and replied, "We are competitors with your website, but aren’t we also against the other five publishers?"
"Besides, cooperating with you might be profitable, while collaborating with them has been losing money."
Okay...
It was the same old story: there are no perpetual adversaries, only perpetual interests.
Wang Jian absently fiddled with Lily’s fingers, his mind continuously pondering.
Random House had a strong physical book sales network.
The website owned three-tenths of the copyright of all other works, except "American Gods."
Naturally, a partnership between the two could generate more revenue.
But the timing of the physical book release was another major issue.
Because the number of fans for works published on the website was something that accumulated over time.
Wang Jian patted Tom’s shoulder and asked, "How long has ’Arcane Throne’ been finished, and what’s the current subscription amount on the website?"
Tom, a licensed lawyer, caught on immediately.
"Are you considering using ’Arcane Throne’ as a reference standard for publishing physical books? That’s probably not going to work. After being adapted into games and comics, its fan base far surpasses other works on the website."
"Negotiating is all about starting with a higher target and then gradually lowering your terms," said Wang Jian nonchalantly. "By the way, isn’t the sequel comic of ’Arcane Throne’ about to be published?"
"Yes," Tom replied while driving. "Dark Horse Comics, at EA’s request, has expedited the drawing process.
"However, I’ve heard that Marvel and DC Comics, to counter Dark Horse, are going to take corresponding measures."
Dammit,
Why are there competitors everywhere?
Wang Jian took a deep breath and instructed, "Tomorrow, bring me the data on the subscription changes for ’Arcane Throne’ to my office."
"Sure."
Half an hour later.
Wang Jian and Lily got out of the car and walked toward the apartment.
It had to be said that after staying in the United States for a while, even a sense of shame could diminish bit by bit.
This time, Wang Jian did not even bother to feign politeness by asking Lily if she wanted to be escorted back to her apartment.
The difference between luxury apartments and ordinary ones lay in their attentive services.
In addition to two robust security personnel still standing at the entrance of the apartment, there was even a staff member working in the elevator at this hour.
Lily looked around curiously at everything, while somewhat afraid of being scrutinized in turn.
When Wang Jian led her into the duplex apartment,
Lily firstly breathed a sigh of relief, and then her gaze was immediately captivated.
Leather sofas, an oversized TV, and various pieces of furniture that looked expensive.
She recalled the day’s events and cast an inadvertent glance towards Wang Jian.
He was young, wealthy, and highly talented.
She took another look at herself in the mirror.
Then, she began to incessantly ponder what else she could offer to attract him.
But Wang Jian was completely oblivious to Lily’s thoughts at the moment.
He poured a cup of coffee with a smile, pulled Lily down onto the sofa, and began discussing some of his recent experiences.
The more Lily listened, the more her mind became chaotic.
Finally, she bit her lip and said to Wang Jian, "I’ll take a shower first. I feel sticky."
"Sure," Wang Jian replied and walked into the guestroom, retrieving a set of toiletries, and told Lily, "These were prepared by the staff; I’m not sure if it’s the brand you usually use."
Lily looked down and saw an array of luxury brands.
She took these items, then picked up her small Kun bag and walked into the bathroom.
Meanwhile, Wang Jian considered his options as he aimlessly pressed the remote control.
About fifteen minutes later, Lily emerged from the bathroom, a bit shy.
She had never worn this kind of clothing before.
Wang Jian’s gaze moved away from the television and onto her.
His eyes grew wider and wider as he looked into Lily’s.
His breathing became heavier with the sound of her high heels.
Soon, the room was filled with a cacophony of sounds.
...
At the same time, in Tennessee...
Leonard was alone in bed, tossing and turning, unable to sleep.
Tomorrow, three comic books would be released,
"Spiderman," "Superman," and "Arcane Throne."
How to choose?
First of all, eliminate "Superman."
Ever since they changed the head writer, the plot had just gotten more and more absurd.
Male Superman, female Superman, little Superman...
Had Kryptonians collectively relocated to Earth?
So, it came down to "Spiderman" and "Arcane Throne."
He had already read the later content of "Arcane Throne" online and even pre-ordered the physical book.
"Spiderman" probably had the same old story of secret identities and saving the world, but he didn’t know the specific details.
Maybe "Spiderman" then?
Sigh, why did he have to have just a little bit of pocket money?
Without realizing it, daylight had come.
Hesitant, Leonard decided to get up and go to the comic store.
Unable to sleep anyway, it would be good to be the first to grab the new issue of "Spiderman."
He quietly dressed and tiptoed out of the house.
But when Leonard arrived at the comic store, he was surprised to find that people were already waiting there.
Upon closer inspection,
hm, no surprises, it was still those same familiar faces.
"Hi, Leonard, what are you buying?" one of them asked.
"Spiderman," Leonard replied confidently.
"Didn’t you especially like ’Arcane Throne?’ Why are you buying Spiderman now?" someone said with a sneer. frёeweɓηovel_coɱ
"I always said classical music and comics have nothing to do with each other. Besides, being nicknamed ’Knowledge Boy’ is just hilarious!"
"Comics are supposed to be all about blood and guts, carnage and bloodbaths!"
Leonard looked at this steadfast "Arcane Throne" hater, smirked, and decided not to argue.
At last, as everyone anticipated, the sun rose completely.
The comic store owner opened the doors.
But before the crowd could go inside, the owner brought out three giant posters and pasted them outside the store.
One poster was the classic image of Superman extending his hand, flying towards the sky.
Another featured Spiderman clinging to a wall, looking up at the sky.
The last one showed the back of a young mage walking forward.
Behind him, there was a row of dead bodies mixed with red and white brain matter.
In addition to the "Arcane Throne" title on the poster, there was another nickname labeled.
Upon closer look, it shockingly read "Headshot Demon!"
