Chapter 643: Chapter 643 Computers Also Have Human Rights...
Ever since Bingdisi and a bunch of gods showed up in Shadow City, the seeds of disaster quietly descended. Chaos was brooding in the dark depths, stirring restlessly every night. The Empire’s warriors all became vigilant...
That’s the literary way to put it, but when Bingdisi, who dined-and-dashed three times, got dragged out by me and Sandora from the Gold-Edged Rose, and when Yelsen, who was always looking for a fight, was pinned down by the City Management Team five times, and when Lin destroyed public property on the streets countless times, everyone had to admit, their ability to cause trouble was simply peerless.
"So, today we must have a meeting to criticize the three individuals causing havoc in the capital of the Empire!"
What to do after breakfast when there’s nothing else? Stand in the living room and lecture gods! Do such bold life choices need an explanation?
Standing beside me was Sandora, surrounded by Sister Qianqian, Lilina, Mercury Lamp, Anwina, and other special guests. Before us, bowing their heads were the three Divine Race beings who had become synonymous with trouble in the past three days. The only harmless beings from the Divine Race delegation, Kenser and Monina, had distanced themselves from them and were sitting on the couch, sipping tea and cracking sunflower seeds, serving as the jury.
"First up is you—no looking around! Bingdisi!"
Clad in a black dress, her silver hair touching the ground, the Lady Goddess who looked poised and elegant opened her mouth only to shatter that image, "What’s up?"
"Charging protection money seven times at various churches, organizing hundreds of undead creatures to form the ’Goddess Personal Guard’ of dubious nature once, eating and running from five-star hotels and putting all the bills on Sandora’s account three times—all on you. What do you have to say?"
Bingdisi smoothed her hair, obviously aware these weren’t her most commendable moments, "Ahem, old habits die hard, but I did pay back that protection money... I think everyone seemed quite happy with it."
I was left speechless.
Well, regardless, it was true that Bingdisi didn’t cause any serious consequences. While her actions seemed outrageous, her ability to blend in anywhere and bond with anyone was extraordinarily effective. Even though she wandered around causing trouble with a group of skeleton minions, oddly enough, everyone involved seemed quite pleased, troublemakers and victims alike.
"Look, Chen, I’m really sorry, but your concubine here is the Light Goddess, right? I still remember the creed of bringing happiness to the world. The method is a bit strange, but the result is everyone being happy, isn’t it good?"
So, you’re just having fun with everyone... That sort of makes sense.
I glanced at Sandora who gave me a helpless, bitter smile, her eyes clearly saying, "You can’t argue with her, she makes sense."
How did I read all that complexity from just one look?
"Alright, no more dining and dashing. That’s directly harmful to me and Sandora. Tone down the rest a bit, next up, 123!"
"Here!" The blond hunk responded like he was answering a roll call in the military, his muscles tensing as he stood up straight. Clearly, this was a result of Dingdang’s regular drills. Little Dong usually called him like this during roll call in missions.
Yelsen then realized and looked at us with a pitiful expression, "If possible, I’d rather not be called by that nickname."
"You start by handling your own fighting issues! How many people have you knocked over these three days, huh? A god bullying mortals to have fun?"
"Blood-pumping battle is the romance of men!" Yelsen immediately got excited, "I believe those brothers I sent to the medical center think the same! Besides, I always limited my power before fighting. If they lost, it’s just because their skills were inferior."
"Seriously, you’ve got billions of years of battle experience just lying around!"
Hot-blooded Yelsen is the type who’s happy just to have a fight, even if it means getting covered in dirt like a mortal, and it’s not just about fighting. His real hobby is challenging anyone in anything; this Divine Race warrior has endless goals and boundless fervor. It’s just that in Shadow City, where the violent types from all worlds gather in masses, fighting is the easiest challenge to take on, so that’s what he’s been doing for the past three days, looking for battles everywhere.
"Holding it in isn’t good for you," I said as I watched 123 start to burn up. I smacked my lips and made a plan. "Don’t you just want someone to challenge, whatever the goal?"
"Ah, I was born to overcome all challenges!"
"Okay, I’ll introduce you to someone. See that guy in the projection, the one carrying a bag with sunglasses like Uncle Kenser? Just keep an eye on him and report to the city management office this afternoon. Bringing him in is your goal."
Yelsen immediately agreed cheerfully, while I chuckled to myself: Do you think that’s easy to do? That old slicker can’t even be caught by me, and you think your combat skills compare to mine? Sicaro has been leveling up like crazy lately, you know?
"Huh, seeing Chen’s face, dummy brother got fooled," Monina shook her head and sighed while Kenser beside her continued to crack seeds with a straight face, nodding, "Very good, very good."
"Last is this Dragon God girl over here." After dealing with the two biggest troubles, I focused my weary gaze on Lin.
With pale golden shoulder-length hair, dressed and behaving just like any ordinary high-school girl, she immediately shrank her neck, showing a timid expression, "I’m sorry, but I really didn’t mean to!"
I know you didn’t mean to; you’re just too clumsy.
If we’re analyzing personalities, Lin would actually be one of the only conscientious ones among this group of five Divine Race freeloaders, with the other being Uncle Kenser, who diligently cooperated with our work. This Dragon God girl is obedient and hardworking, strictly follows superior orders, and due to her inherently timid nature, it’s nearly impossible for her to trouble others like Bingdisi and 123 would.
But we all know there are two types of people whose combat skills can’t be judged by their persona: one is the naturals, and the other, the goofballs.
Faithfully adhering to the Divine Race’s codes of conduct and following Father God’s teachings to help anyone in need and perform any kind deed within her capability, Lin has been enthusiastically trying to help others over the past three days—with her nearly limitless wrist strength.
So far, this girl has demolished seventy-two vending machines, eight fire hydrants, four street lamps, two landscape walls, seven trees, a gazebo, and the gate of the Imperial Military Academy; actually, she just wanted to push the gate open.
Seeing the clumsy Dragon God girl’s pitiful attempt to own up, even Big Sister felt pity and consoled her from the audience seats, "It’s okay, Ah Jun just wanted to remind you to be careful in the future. You’re very strong, so you need to get accustomed to the fragility of the mortal world."
"Little Thing has reminded her countless times already," the Little Thing was on my shoulder, watching its subordinates get scolded, "It doesn’t work!"
"Never mind, try to stay away from crowded places," I sighed, "go get me a bottle of water... oh, never mind! I’ll go myself!"
It was too late; the obedient Dragon God girl had already dismantled the refrigerator door.
"The fridge door opens to the right!" almost everyone in the room shouted in unison. The unfortunate and clumsy Dragon Clan powerhouse almost burst into tears, frantically trying to fix the door back in place: after a loud crash, Anwina added a new fridge to the household budget.
"Little Thing, just how strong is this girl’s wrist!"
I stared dumbfounded at the havoc Lin had just caused in an instant. Just how much upper limit does her strength have?
Little One appeared deep in thought, seeming unsure of how to describe the Dragon God Girl’s strength. Fortunately, Monina kindly explained on behalf of her team leader, "If Lin uses just her strength without magic, she can squeeze a chunk of iron into neutron star material, or to a level where inert elements undergo nuclear fusion by your technological standards. Of course, these are just numbers, but her strength really is that immense. Once, in her dragon form, she even pushed a planet into a star just by flicking her tail."
I immediately broke into a sweat, "So, she’s already somewhat adept at controlling her strength?"
"You could say that."
"Very sorry! Very sorry! Very sorry!"
The Dragon God Girl, who had just compressed the entire refrigerator into a lump of metal, frantically tried to make amends for her mistake, but Yelsen quickly intervened to prevent her from continuing to dismantle the house. She offered her apologies to everyone with an almost tearful expression, looking absolutely aggrieved.
"Well... I’m just curious about something. You all say she usually does the menial tasks in the team, is it really okay given her clumsy nature?"
Monina crossed her arms and shrugged, "That’s why only tasks like sweeping are safe for her. At least brooms are cheap. And she gets this isolated, bullied look if we don’t let her do any work. We really don’t want bad rumors spreading about our team."
To have such a powerful physical stature, yet she’s so submissive?
"I can’t master derivative magic at all. Besides the innate divine techniques of the Dragon Clan, I only have my strength to rely on, so... I’m truly very sorry! It definitely won’t happen again!"
Ah, hopefully the next few days will go by peacefully. These guests from the Divine Realm have quite the knack for causing trouble.
Time just passed like that.
The gods had been in this world for five days. As they gradually got familiar with the local conditions, these potentially explosive beings had finally settled a bit. At least they weren’t causing chaos all day like during Twilight of the Gods. In the meantime, Lin Xue managed to get acquainted with these high-caliber beings. Prophet seemed incredibly calm, but I suspect that he had foreseen the chaos that was about to unfold in Shadow City in the first two and a half days, which is why he stayed out of sight until he couldn’t resist joining us for a meal.
It might also be because he feels a bit awkward meeting me now. The normally strong and spoiled Miss usually seems like a pure-hearted person—though I’m no less strong myself.
Ever since that day when I brought up the idea of an All Realms Exchange event with Bingdisi, the Goddess who loves to be at the center of excitement showed great enthusiasm. She came up with quite a few creative and mature ideas. Surprisingly, compared to Qianqian’s brainless suggestions, Bingdisi actually had some genuinely inventive and experienced proposals. Upon inquiry, it turned out that the Goddess, who enjoys watching people from various groups interact and create chaos, had conducted similar activities in the worlds under her rule. Although not as massive as the Macro World, the excitement was definitely beyond my imagination.
"Since it’s about allowing free exchange between worlds, then you should interfere as little as possible. Set the basic framework, the basic rules. As long as they operate within these confines, they can do whatever they want. A carnival is the best kind of festival celebration. Even holding a World’s Greatest Martial Arts Tournament wouldn’t be a problem."
Those were Bingdisi’s exact words.
The name of this gathering had been undecided for a long time, with over thirty proposals, such as the World’s Greatest Martial Arts Tournament, World’s Greatest Cultural Festival, World’s Greatest Sports Games, World’s Greatest Expo, World’s Greatest... I can’t even list them all. Anyway, ninety percent of these came from Qianqian’s unrestrained mind, and they were mostly impractical. In the end, we had to settle for the most neutral term available: All Realms Carnival. After all, the Empire has been lacking in morals for more than a day or two, so we might as well change it to a better name later if we find one, right?
Additionally, we made a preliminary tally of the potential attendees for this grand event. The number, of course, was staggering. The entire system of Reviewers from the Macro World might come together, along with the fortunate ones they’ve selected to become "Travelers," and the large groups from the Imperial Family. This event could result in a migration more immense than any migration crisis. Forcibly cramming everyone into one space might turn the festival into a farce. Eventually, we decided to open three gathering places. The main gathering space naturally would be the Shadow Space. We temporarily expanded the area of Shadow City Suburb to level it as the venue. Following Bingdisi’s proposal, the venue was minimally themed with facilities, opting instead for modular "exhibition areas" that allowed representatives from various worlds free rein. This made the venue look more like a free market, and I can already imagine the future scenes resembling a temple fair...
As for diverting the crowd, there were two other gathering locations set in Azeroth and a place you would never expect: the Mars Sanctuary.
Indeed, it was the human civilization of the "Academy Apocalypse" world alongside Earth that had been destroyed by the Abyss Gate. The surviving humans resided in a refuge on Mars.
The humans in that refuge could be said to be the most unfortunate among the civilizations that the Empire had assisted. Although other civilizations had faced great disasters, their homelands remained or their Races were still intact. In that refuge, however, Earth had been destroyed and all of humanity was reduced to the population of a single city, struggling to restore their civilization inside a giant glass dome on Mars. We had considered relocating them en masse to other worlds where they could coexist with the humans of the New Eden Federation, but that would have nearly destroyed their Race from another aspect, and the survivors were not very accepting of this arrangement. So, we had to abandon that idea.
But this wasn’t to say we just left them alone. If it had been the Old Empire era, such a fragile, primitive civilization would have been lucky to cling to survival with a colonization ball from the Empire. But now, we wouldn’t give up on any civilization that still had the glimmer of hope. Setting up the gathering venues on the periphery of the refuge was a form of support for them. freeweɓnovēl.coɱ
First, they would be directly exposed to the Collective Strength of the Empire’s realms in the early stages of their civilization’s revival. They would clearly understand the might of the civilization sheltering them, which would give these still somewhat confused human survivors unprecedented confidence. They could also share experiences of the world’s apocalypse in the process of interacting with residents from other worlds...this part is just some bluffing. After the gathering events, the refuge would undergo a massive expansion. The venue would not be dismantled; its ecosystem would be forever integrated with the refuge. Plus, Mars was gradually being terraformed. Before long, these human survivors would gain a brand new homeland, all that was left for them to do was to have children like crazy and simultaneously reshape their civilization—doesn’t that sound dramatic?
The two secondary gatherings and the main gathering venue were completely open, allowing those with entry qualifications from otherworlds to move freely between the venues. This way, there was no need to worry about compromising in exchange activities, but accordingly, traffic control and the distribution of people became a bit tricky. However, organizing such a grand event was never going to be a simple task. It’s like saying when you have too many lice, you’re not itchy; when you have too much debt, you’re not worried. More importantly, I had handed over all the brainwork to Sivis and the kid’s mom to handle...
Maybe that was why Bubbles had been feeling rather resentful these past couple of days.
When I was out with Qianqian on a whim, we ended up at the core Xyrin Nest in Shadow City. Who would have expected to encounter a resentful version of Bubbles right there?
"So, we expect the full opening of the World Hub in half a month. All the preparations are now online. The space expansion was completed yesterday. Builders have started on their sequence of work, and the synthesizing factories are mass-producing items for the gatherings. The high-capacity space corridors between the two auxiliary gathering venues are under construction and will be completed in forty-eight hours. Leaders from several major worlds have already submitted their reports, with programs ranging from song and dance performances to military simulations, but all within permitted limits. According to your plan, in a week, let them pass through and start the meeting. Moreover, small-scale world traversal has already been launched. As a test, we are letting the remotest worlds in the Imperial Dominions ship large quantities of materials here. Safety is good. That’s all, report complete."
In front of us, the little girl in a white dress inside the Crystal Prism was reading her work report, her expression unchanging, like a machine without any modulation.
The absence of various whimsical acts such as pestering endlessly, playing tricks, and teasing the child’s father made this Bubbles simply too abnormal.
Of course, I wasn’t exactly looking forward to being teased by this deeply housebound little lass.
"Because I’m bored! Extremely bored! There are so many tasks, so many threads, so much data, so many...ah!! There’s absolutely no time for playing games, fighting bosses, watching anime, surfing novels, browsing forums, not even for moderating forums, meow! The leading Xyrin Host being busy to this extent is just sad...
In the Crystal Prism, the little girl burst out after holding back for a few seconds, displaying a variety of whimsical acts and teasing the child’s father. But the problem is, wasn’t this Carnival proposal Qianqian’s idea?
I glanced at the girl next to me, who flashed a happy smile at me. At this moment, I couldn’t tell if she was really naive or just playing dumb.
"I demand a vacation! I demand a restart!" Bubbles saw that Qianqian and I were still "exchanging glances" and ignoring her, immediately started banging on the exterior of the host slot’s Crystal Barrier, "Having been turned on for so long continuously, I haven’t even had a standby time, so a two-day rest is a must! Can I, kid’s dad?"
I thought about it and realized it was true. Bubbles, as the Empire’s ultimate computing terminal, hardly ever got rest time. Plus, with all the recent continuous wartimes and troubles, the entire Xyrin Nest network was online 24/7. Even when having meals with everyone, she was wirelessly networking and managing operations. This little lass indeed deserved a break.
"That’s true, I overlooked this. Now would be a good time for you to relax with everyone," I sincerely apologized to the computing little Loli who was incessantly demanding a restart and standby, "But what about your work?"
"Those dumb daughters, though limited in functionality, can handle my computational load when combined!" Bubbles immediately perked up, "I’ve prepared the parallel slots!"
You were prepared all along, huh?
"Then, I’ve also thought about where to go for a break," Bubbles noticed the strange expression on my face and hurriedly added, worried that the situation might change, "The World Hub has already opened a small part, so... let’s just go and fetch the sisters of the Mercury Lamp!"
