Xyrin Empire-Chapter 690 Resurrection
Chapter 690: Chapter 690 Resurrection
Under Taville’s command, the scanning probe was removed from the object from the Otherworld, and two Imperial Technicians personally approached and used their specialized scanning equipment to conduct a deep investigation of the extremely dense, bizarre substance. Seconds later, an even clearer image appeared on the information screen in Taville’s hands: a humanoid creature engaged in combat and a monster with somewhat human-like limbs and a twisted torso.
The humanoid creature naturally drew our attention more than the ugly, half-human monster. He appeared to be a robust man wearing an oddly styled but well-crafted armor. The heavy armor, etched with intricate patterns, had sharp spikes at major joints that obviously served as lethal weapons rather than decorations. In the hands of this wild-haired humanoid, clenched tightly, was a giant sword—allow me to describe a sword as a "surface" since this thing was as broad as a door panel, I don’t know how else to describe it—he was bent over, furiously hacking it into the body of the monster in front of him, which raised a severely deformed "arm" to block, only to have its shoulder and half of its upper body sliced open like butter. Soon, we found the severed arm at the calf height of the monster’s remains.
Various indications suggested that the catastrophe had struck in the instant these two beings were fiercely battling. They didn’t even have time to struggle before they were encased in a piece of space amber, and the monster’s severed arm hadn’t even had the chance to hit the ground.
"The image is very clear—Saya, increase the scanning intensity. I need details from the second wave," Taville ordered his subordinates to send back higher precision images, while enlarging the holographic projection in his hands so that both Sandora and I could see better. "A muscular humanoid creature, its appearance extremely similar to modern humans, possessing some facial skeletal characteristics and dense hair typical of Northern Europeans, but abnormally tall—if he could stand upright, at least two and a half meters— theoretically speaking."
I nodded, a guy taller than two Pandoras: fortunately, he’s already dead, or else he’d have to die once more.
"From his appearance, he doesn’t seem to suffer from any joint deformities typical of gigantism, so if it’s not a genetic mutation, this tall humanoid likely comes from a civilization similar to Earth’s, but not human," Taville tapped the information screen, "Hmm, these are the details of his armor. There are some strange characters, but I can’t translate them without a comparison. Saya has already inserted the probe into this rock, perhaps we can collect some genetic samples without damaging the space amber."
"Wow..."
Qianqian let out an intrigued murmur, her face lighting up with excitement, "Feels like we’re filming a movie, can we clone him?"
"That would be easy, Madam," Taville adjusted his glasses, "but it’s pointless. This humanoid might come from a low-level civilization. Although not all advanced civilizations use firearms, it’s highly likely that this creature doesn’t possess any valuable combat capabilities, despite his great size— theoretically speaking."
"Pfft," Qianqian gnashed her teeth, "Everything has to be about fighting, can’t we just form a basketball team?"
I exchanged a knowing glance with Taville and secretly muttered in our spiritual connection: Don’t take it seriously with your mistress. She probably doesn’t even know what she’s thinking herself. But let’s forget the idea of basketball teams too; with the Pandora Sisters at home, it’s a sport with a high fatality rate.
"Hmm, what about this monster?"
I pointed at the nearly dismembered, humanoid monster on the screen. One of its arms was cut off, and its upper body was sliced in half from the shoulder to below the ribs. The monster’s face was twisted in madness, and together with the tall man furiously attacking with a giant sword opposite him, they formed a still image akin to a mythological War God vs Monster scene: of course, now we refer to it as Man vs Nature.
"This part is even more perplexing," Taville pointed at a series of curves on the information screen, "That’s also a human: just severely deformed due to some mutation."
I momentarily froze.
This chunk of space amber held many secrets: coming from the Otherworld was enough to display it in any museum of a civilization within the universe, and the ghost energy reaction it generated during its transit perplexed Imperial scientists. Now, it enclosed a humanoid and a mutated creature. Could this be a quirky collector’s treasure used to protect their house?
"Cut it open," Sandora pondered briefly and made a chopping motion with her hand, "We don’t need collectibles, let’s make this stone create something valuable for the Empire."
"As you wish."
Taville gave a military salute and turned to order, "Cut the sample!"
Several work machines immediately responded to the command, moving into action. These nimble fellows flew to the surface of the space amber, extended tiny high-energy beam emitters, and began cutting the large "stone" with blue and white lasers. A foul burning smell quickly filled the air, causing Taville to frown and mutter under his breath, "That’s repulsive—smells like scorched warship buffering material."
With the bright sparks flickering, "zzz," the alien artifact, several meters in diameter, was gradually separated into several pieces. Under precise adjustments by the anti-gravity platform, parts were detached from the main body. In the center, the unfortunate deceased and the monster under his sword were carefully protected, unharmed by the lasers.
After patiently waiting for a few minutes, and once the work machines meticulously removed the unfortunate beings from inside the "amber," we immediately approached curiously, facing the tall warrior of unknown origin and the fierce, mad monster beneath his sword.
A fierce-looking man with exposed muscles almost bursting through his armor suggested that he came from a primitive civilization that still revered personal physical strength. Qianqian clicked her tongue in amazement at the enormous sword in his hand, resembling a door panel, and started to ponder how much money it could fetch if melted down into steel plates, while Sandora thoughtfully stared at the monster whose organs had been sliced open, "Ah Jun, I feel something strange about this creature—a disgusting smell."
"It is foul," I sniffed, "Taville said it’s like charred warship buffering material, though I think it smells a bit like rotten eggs."
"I mean not that, but a feeling, a spiritual one. I hate this monster, yet it feels somehow familiar..."
"Your Majesty, please step back!"
While Sandora and I were talking, Taville suddenly called out, sounding a bit anxious.
Bewildered, the three of us stepped back a few paces to outside the yellow line of the anti-gravity platform. We discovered that Pandora and Visca had already drawn out massive ship cannons, seemingly ready to suppress firepower in their own home at any moment. Meanwhile, Taville rapidly pressed something on a holographic projection in front of him, his expression surprised and solemn.
"I don’t know if I saw it wrong, there was a life reaction from the sample just now, wait, it’s gone, but there’s still an aftereffect..."
Taville spoke hurriedly, and I immediately looked in surprise toward the nearby anti-gravity platform. The two deceased bodies were still quietly floating there, motionless like sculptures. But, was it an illusion or could it be possible that the creature wasn’t really dead? Yeah, too lifelike, perhaps? ƒree𝑤ebnσvel-com
"Crack, crackle..."
A faint sound of peeling caught everyone’s attention. Although very subtle, the noise was overly apparent to our ears, as it was for those who were not of ordinary nature. The next second, visible dust particles began to float from the sculpted forms of the towering warrior and the monster—this was due to the "amber" embedded in their body crevices which shed due to their movements and disseminated freely in the zero gravity environment, resulting in a PM2.5 exceedance phenomenon.
If anything had been mixed in just before, it was already familiar to us.
"He’s moving!" Taville barely had time to shout before another roar, far louder than her voice, reverberated through the Gnaku. The giant, standing over two and a half meters tall, suddenly turned his eyes, and the stiff skin on his face began to crack inch by inch. With boundless courage, the warrior let out a deafening roar: "Cilin Naziadar! Atalendisi!"
Amidst the battle cry, the warrior’s giant sword resumed its unfinished mission, dropping fiercely in an attempt to bisect the twisted creature—which might once have been human but had now mutated into a monster.
However, the stone blockade had already eradicated the kinetic energy accumulated by the giant sword, and under the hastily gathered force, the sword in the warrior’s hand could only advance weakly. During this split-second action, the "monster," which had already sustained a fatal injury, resurrected and growled an unintelligible phrase. It swiftly dodged in the direction of the sword’s descent and, despite losing an arm and half of its body being severed, it moved as if it felt no pain, making a violent twist that would have snapped the waist of a regular person, narrowly avoiding being cleaved in two.
Murky blood spat from the monster onto the ground, bursting forth ominous black smoke. Seeing the smoke, Sandora’s face turned pale: "The Abyss!"
"Guards! Protect the Emperor! Seal the pathways! Gnaku, activate the purification field! Abyss invasion!"
Ripples of space transmission sequentially flickered across the surrounding area, as batches of heavily armed Royal Guards swiftly formed a steel defensive line around us, but Sandora directly used a psychic command to stop these elite soldiers from carrying out their "Preservation Shooting"—an emergency measure taken when Imperial leaders are endangered which involves Royal Guards teleporting to the scene and attacking everything within range without a second confirmation, including rats and cockroaches. I also held back two 1.2-meter-tall Pandora Sisters who were about to throw a Space Internal Bomb in the house (likely stimulated by seeing two creatures twice their size fighting before them).
This was the first armed encounter by the Royal Guards within the Imperial Capital, Shadow City, accompanied by an extreme situation of an Abyss invasion. In such sensitive circumstances, piercing alarms blared almost simultaneously through the entire fortress. Alongside the alarms, heavy armored barriers outside all buildings fluttered with tangible Ghost Energy, rising layer by layer to segregate the base into isolated sectors, activating energy fields in every passageway with enough intensity to ionize ordinary organisms into atoms, rapidly forming multiple isolation zones. A massive number of Imperial Soldiers immediately received alerts about the capital being invaded, but the command was canceled before it could reach outside the fortress: the invading Abyss Energy was already suppressed, proving that the invasion, besides some uncontrolled specimen carrying a black mist, posed no real threat to the Imperial Capital.
Inside the base, all security units activated at high speed, yet the Gnaku appeared relatively calm, if not for the two humanoid beings fiercely clashing.
Prompted by the alarm, Royal Guards formed a human wall, gripping their specially equipped riot guns tightly, their blue shields linking into a seamless barrier. Although the spreading Abyss Energy within the Gnaku only reached the intensity of a secondary derivative (a secondary decay of Abyss Reaction emitted by Abyss-infected organisms), the situation appeared especially urgent due to its proximity to the Emperor within the depths of the Imperial Capital.
Compared to these responsible Imperial Soldiers, Sandora and I wore rather calm expressions on our faces. The spreading Abyss Energy was not strong—insufficient even to distort the minds of ordinary Imperial Soldiers—allowing us to leisurely watch the intense battle before us.
Being aggressively observed by so many, these two continued fighting as if no one else was around!
The resurrected monster, leaking Abyss attributes and exceedingly agile, clashed with the other more ferocious figure—the Big Man—wielding what seemed like a ridiculously heavy alloy giant sword with ease. The Norse giant continuously bellowed, chopping at the darting monster with strength far exceeding theoretical muscle output for carbon-based organisms, and we even glimpsed afterimages with his swings. A subtle silver glow, initially thought to be the legendary "Fighting Spirit," gradually permeated from beneath the skin of the battling warrior. However, Taville’s energy counter indicated it was a low-frequency radiation: although far less efficient than Ghost Energy, this radiation effectively countered the Abyss corruption oozing from the monster and remarkably amplified the giant warrior’s strength.
The energy counter showed that in terms of strength and agility alone, this guy’s combat ability was even more brutal than that of the fully-armed Imperial Soldiers, and even the Subordinate Commanders—this thing was definitely not human!
"Taville, continue recording the data, and everyone else be ready to support that warrior, whoever he is; he is battling the Abyss," Sandora commanded in a low voice as the Royal Guards immediately classified the giant warrior wielding a giant sword as a friendly target.
It turned out that the mighty warrior did not need our support. In the frenzied combat, the already severely injured Monster was quickly losing its ability to resist. Despite its crazed and fearless behavior, facing a meat grinder-like Big Man with a giant sword, it could only delay the amputation of its remaining arm by a few minutes.
The warrior wielding the giant sword was enveloped in radiant silver-white energy, which also extended to the weapon in his hand. This aura seemed capable of suppressing the weak Abyssal Aura emitted by the Monster, resulting in the sliced flesh of the Monster losing its ability to generate black fog upon hitting the ground. But just as victory seemed assured, the Monster, cornered and thought dead, suddenly lifted its head—looking in our direction.
We could not fathom the thoughts of creatures infected by the Abyss. Ignoring the human-shaped meat grinder nearby, this near-dead creature roared and charged towards the more terrifying Royal Guards. Originally, we were content to watch the two mysterious beings clash to the death, but once we realized we were also targeted... Well, I felt nothing, but the circle of Imperial Soldiers was clearly enraged—hundreds of heavy weapons were cocked simultaneously, the clicking sounds merging into one. But before they could open fire, a white shadow dashed out from the human wall faster than the rest and in an instant, plunged into the torso of the Abyss Monster, which fell to the ground without a struggle and lay deathly still.
"Alert cancelled."
As the small amount of Abyss Energy in the Gnaku was cleared by the force field, Sandora waved her hand somewhat displeased at the Guard Captain beside her, "Such a weak enemy, all this tension!"
The innocent Guard Captain didn’t utter a word of defense, accepting the Queen’s reproach with an expressionless face, but I felt pity for him: Sandora could afford to disregard such Abyss Monsters, inferior even to mixed soldiers, but as a guardian in the Royal District, he had to be highly alert to any threat connected to the Abyss, not because of the situation, but as a matter of duty. Of course, Sandora understood this too, she was just slightly annoyed at the guards’ overreaction, and simply vented a bit.
The guards dispersed the unnecessary human wall, and Sandora and I approached the now-calm mysterious warrior, who had remained immobile in the striking-down pose as if petrified, appearing like a combat puppet that had lost its target. However, when we got closer, the huge warrior slowly moved, turning his head to look at the approaching group.
His gaze swept over me and Sandora, then suddenly fixed in a certain direction—his pupils rapidly contracting as the muscles on his arm visibly bulged, as though he was ready to fight again. But that was all.
With a clang, the heavy alloy giant sword dropped to the ground, and the large warrior collapsed silently, his wounds finally erupting into a horrific fountain of blood.
"He’s dead."
Taville stated flatly, with the cold words "no life response" appearing on his data terminal.
Sandora silently looked at the warrior on the ground: "Resurrect him. I want to see him awake and appear in front of me at this time tomorrow."
"By your will." (To be continued. If you like this work, please cast your recommendation and monthly vote at qidian.com, your support is my greatest motivation.)
