Xyrin Empire-Chapter 707: A Gang of Ruffians Descends from the Sky
Chapter 707: Chapter 707: A Gang of Ruffians Descends from the Sky
In order to break through the Sighing Wall, three armored scorpions had already snapped off their own tails; when they came off the production line, they clearly hadn’t downloaded the data on special shields properly, and they were overly confident in their tails—a common attitude among armored scorpions, these cold weapon fanatics were only passionate about studying how to hack at people or armor as well as effectively use their own tails; they had little enthusiasm for energy shields, which they considered soft.
However, today they met their match.
"It’s okay, it’s just a broken tail; we can attach a new one for you quickly," one of the mass-produced Ravens said to a scorpion soldier looking at her tail with distress, with what appeared to be a genuinely sincere expression, "Then you can continue to whip at a mother ship level rigid shield."
Out of respect for the sliver of truth in that Raven’s tone, I pretended not to hear.
The simple-minded armored scorpion couldn’t detect the Raven’s sarcasm and looked at her tail with a mixed sense of loss, "I just got the 26-axis power lock replaced last month, I wonder if it’s still under warranty after being damaged like this..."
Miss Scorpion doing the shell polishing and waxing, you’re quite the trendsetter, aren’t you!
I placed my hand on the Sighing Wall, testing whether there was any other way to breach it.
There was no resistance where I touched; when I pressed my hand lightly, it felt as though I was touching the surface of water—gentle, powerless, giving the impression that it could be pushed through with a little effort, completely belied by its strength enough to injure an armored scorpion with incredible physical defense. But as I increased the pressure, it seemed to "harden" correspondingly—a more tangible way to describe it.
No matter how much force was applied to this thin curtain of light, it produced the exact right amount of resistance to counter it. When I pressed as hard as I could, it felt as solid as the frontal armor of a warship. No wonder even the brute force of the Ravens couldn’t open the smallest crack.
Raven 001 flew into the sky and released a white-hot fireball at a point dozens of meters high on the Sighing Wall. This pure thermal energy attack, capable of melting through dozens of meters of steel, only rippled over the wall without effecting any damage; a multi-energy feedback field instantly developed a hundred percent resistance to flames, nullifying the Ravens’ attack.
Conventional attacks seemed useless against such an advanced barrier. The Ravens began to discuss whether or not to gather for a massive arcane collision: after all, the Sighing Wall wasn’t a law-level defense system, it was just a high-grade shield that could withstand extreme forces and had some peculiar properties, and concentrating sufficient attack power should definitely take care of it, the plan was feasible in theory, but the magic girls chattered and calculated for a long time before coming to a conclusion: without an instruction manual for this Sighing Wall, we didn’t know its impact resistance value, and the Ravens could only guess; using too much force could turn the entire inner city area including the Atlantis control base into ashes, while insufficient force would result in the arcane torrent rebounding and wiping out the entire central district.
My idea was to use void energy to pierce through the energy shield, which also seemed feasible, but unfortunately, the side effects were the same as the above plan.
"Well, okay, without a kinetic weapon of the right yield, and since high-power energy attacks are hard to control," I scratched my head, looking at the translucent barrier before me and the last swath of enemy territory enveloped in the black mist behind it, "I’ll try interfering with the energy flow of this thing, hoping the Sighing Wall’s energy flow isn’t much different from a regular shield."
It was a clumsy method, but without a better solution at hand, Sandora could only nod and let me give it a try, while the other soldiers spread out to stand guard. Although most of the district had fallen into our control, one can never be careless when battling the Abyss, since the enemy had the ability to turn anything in the world into a weapon filled with hostility.
But just as I was analyzing the Sighing Wall with my hand on it, a roar from the sky suddenly interrupted everyone’s actions.
Surprised, all eyes followed the sound to see a magnificent scene:
In the dark moon’s shadow, a golden crack suddenly ripped open as if the sun behind it had finally shattered the eclipse, pouring out infinite brilliance; majestic and divine golden Holy Light spilled from the crevice to the mortal world, apparently accompanied by celestial music. A double-headed giant dragon followed the light, bursting through the space rift like the Gate of Heaven, the powerful divine creature flapped its wings hard as it dove toward us, soaring while its high-pitched roar declared to the world:
She forgot to slow down again!
The Divine Clan Tiaozi five, I had almost forgotten about them.
Ares gaped at the massive and holy figure in the sky and exclaimed in a low voice, "What in the world is that!?"
I struggled to pat the male warrior with the door board sword on the elbow, "That’s kinetic energy, an extra-large dose of kinetic energy—get down!!"
A clamor of metal colliding rang out, and although many didn’t understand what was happening, they immediately followed the command and lay flat on the ground. Particularly the Atlantis Giants led by Hades—they hit the ground with a rumble like an earthquake.
But there were those out of luck. For instance, some Scorpion Soldiers faced with the immense kinetic energy from above, a few dim-witted Armored Scorpions virtually cried out in unison, "How do we get down?!"
A group of Ravens shouted in chorus, "Transform into human form! Idiots!"
Honestly, I felt that to increase the Armored Scorpions’ bravery on the battlefield, they sacrificed too much—like their brains.
In the instant that the last Armored Scorpion fumbled to transform into human form and lay on the ground, the golden double-headed Giant Dragon finally completed its final glide. With a thunderous roar that shook the earth, its hundred-meter-long body slammed straight into the Sighing Wall. I saw it again—just like when it first arrived in Avalon, Lin was the first to land, mouth first: Blessed by the Father God with good teeth indeed.
The two heads of the Giant Dragon hit the Sighing Wall simultaneously. The powerful rebound force field instantly switched to rigid mode, spreading concentric waves of light to absorb the external impact. For a moment, I thought I saw slight cracks, but in the end, the double-headed Giant Dragon failed to break through the barrier. It ended up stuck solidly to the semi-spherical rigid barrier just like Zhang Dabing, and then it slid down with a slick motion.
It knocked over countless plants and flowers in passing.
The Sighing Wall still stood tall, and after the attack, it seemed even more energized.
"Truly worthy of a Mother Ship level Shield, I thought it would break through with that hit," I said, looking at the unscathed Sighing Wall with amazement, while Sandora shook her head as if she had expected it all along, "That kind of attack is too weak, after all. It’s the ultimate defense system of the science expedition team back then. How could it possibly be broken through by a clumsy Dragon God so easily?"
I nodded in total agreement, while blankly watching the Divine Clan Tiaozi Five emerge from the smoke in the distance, looking dizzied.
Just as explosive as their last appearance, I even suspected that Dingdang Team always had to go through such a process every time they descended to the Mortal World. Bingdisi insisted on "experiencing the rookie missions time with the juniors." She really was out of luck.
"Cough, cough, that hit was really something. I think next time we should jump off earlier to be safe," Yelsen’s voice, mixing coughs with gasps, was the first to be heard. He and Monina supported each other, looking like siblings with deep affection depending on each other, but a certain malicious younger sister’s sharp tongue immediately betrayed this warm atmosphere, "Try it if you don’t mind seeing Lin tearfully pitiful for the next several days, stupid big brother."
Kenser, rubbing his winded waist, coughed, "Cough, cough, the kidneys are still good, kidneys still good..."
A tall and explosive figure was walking at the very back, but now she suddenly rushed over and gave me and Sandora a solid bear hug each, "Yaw-hoo~! Your concubine has come to help! Just now I was stopped by toll collectors. Dingdang’s monthly pass for Lin has been out of funds for hundreds of years, and those idiots don’t even know how to top up. Thankfully your concubine took action, and we all came from the Void Node toll station."
I extricated myself awkwardly from Bingdisi’s impressively soft and warm bosom, looking at the silver-haired domineering beauty in front of me, "Did you pay the toll?"
Bingdisi flipped her hair, "No, your concubine has big fists."
I sweated profusely, "You demolished the toll station!"
"How could I?" Bingdisi retorted, "Although I mix with the dark, I still listen to the Father God. I simply beat up Raven 001, then we got through the station free of charge under the pretext of transporting the wounded."
"You might as well tear down the toll station!"
Sandora and I looked at Yelsen, who was being supported by Monina, with the most sympathetic gazes. He made an okay sign at me, while Monina smirked, "I told you, I had already trained that silly older brother of mine into an M-type tens of thousands of years ago!"
I felt the difficulty of communicating with this bunch using normal human thought patterns had suddenly increased, so I quickly changed the subject, "Enough of that, where’s Lin?"
No sooner had I spoken than the Dragon God Girl, now in her human form, sauntered out from behind the towering figure of Uncle Kenser. She gave me a cautious glance before speaking in a bewildered tone, "Huh?"
That look in her eyes was as innocent as Little Baobao’s.
With a gaze full of alarm, after triple-checking that Lin’s expression was honestly as innocent and vacant as could be, I broke into a sweat, "Um, Dingdang, get over here quick, your Dragon God seems to have knocked herself silly!"
While I was speaking, the Dragon God Girl on the other side was still blinking her gem-like big eyes and giggling foolishly at me, humming and chirping away. If you were to say her brain was still functioning normally, you’d definitely be fooling only ghosts!
Monina reached out and gently touched the head of the Dragon God Girl, now in a regressed state, smiled, and said, "Don’t worry, this is normal: She got a bit dazed bumping her head on the way down, and this is what she’s like in human form."
Wow, that’s possible? So, you’re telling me Lin’s got only half her brain working now?
"It’s one of the Dragon God’s racial talents; they can continue to operate after losing a head, even if their thinking becomes less effective. It’s much better than losing the ability to move. She should be back to normal soon. Right now, let’s look at your situation: Is there anything we can help with?"
Before Monina had finished speaking, Yelsen immediately sprang to life, full of energy as if resurrected in peak condition, quickly pulling out his exaggerated golden feathered greatsword and the Emblem Heavy Shield from Other Space. Wrapped in golden brilliance like a Heavenly God descended to earth, he boisterously yelled, "Come on, where are the enemies! Let them witness the power of the War God!"
The enthusiasm of this blockhead, who had previously taken a beating from some female hooligan, now appeared so spirited. It indicated that Bingdisi really hadn’t gone all out (the might of someone’s Wang Ba Fist is something I’ve experienced firsthand) and provided strong evidence that Monina might indeed have "trained" 123.
"The outer enemies have been wiped out by us, and we now control two-thirds of the city. The last barrier is this," I said, patting the Sighing Wall that stood unyielding even after the Dragon God’s onslaught, "a Mother Ship Level protective barrier. Only by breaking through it can we activate the city’s crucial defense system. I’m trying to find a way to neutralize this pesky thing, but if you have a simpler method, that’d be even better."
"Oh, so it’s this thing. I’ve heard of it," Bingdisi, ever knowledgeable, immediately recognized the secret of the Sighing Wall after one glance, "A Multi-Energy Feedback Field, commonly known as the Sighing Wall. You use it for special protection of the fleet’s command center, because it can defend against any attack with an equivalent resistance. It’s something even Divine Race Warriors would find troublesome. However, I’ve heard it’s particularly effective against energy supplies, but its physical defense isn’t as strong. If we let a certain strong lady attack it with full force—"
Before Bingdisi could finish, I felt a gale rush past my ear with a piercing whistle. By the time I processed what was happening, Lin had already darted towards the other side of the street, shrouded in thick smoke, and soon vanished from our sight.
"Lin might be trying to help break through this thing, but did she run off in the wrong direction because her intelligence dropped?" I stood there dumbfounded, staring at the series of deep pits that the strong lady had stomped out, and marveling.
Monina shrugged, "Who knows? Lin’s thoughts are strange in this state, she can’t control her own actions, so she often responds to external stimuli in unpredictable ways... Oh, Father God above! Everybody, get out of the way!"
Like the roar of thousands of heavy motorcycles coming from afar, the wailing sound from where Lin had disappeared grew louder, whipping up a sandstorm, and ahead of the dense smoke, a little black speck swiftly enlarged. Bingdisi dodged to the side, shouting, "Dammit! That girl just went to get a running start!"
Everyone scrambled out of the way, leaving a path hundreds of meters wide to avoid any accidental injuries. The Dragon God Girl, leaning to one side, rushed forward in an uncontrolled collision, and finally slammed into the Sighing Wall with a "boom."
The protective barrier flashed violently several times as if it might extinguish any moment, but—ultimately, the Dragon God Girl ended up sliding down limply against the shield.
Monina hurried over to check on Lin, and a few seconds later she looked up at us with a regretful expression, "She’s lost the last half of her intelligence."
The air around us was as still as death. Youyouzi, unable to suppress her deep-seated curiosity any longer, gestured with her folding fan at the Tiaozi Five, "Humans, what exactly are they here for?"
I spread my hands, "Ever since I knew them, I’ve never figured out what they’re really up to."
In the midst of our conversation, Lin, who had already fainted because of knocking both of her heads (how does she even distinguish her two heads when she transforms into human form? That might remain an eternal mystery) together, suddenly showed signs of life again. The Dragon God Girl uttered a low moan, then slowly stood up and looked at us with an innocent and puzzled gaze.
Monina covered half of her face and whispered in explanation, "The head that fainted first has regained consciousness."
This silly Dragon God even had a shift rotation feature!
Sandora glanced at the nearby Sighing Wall and suddenly said, "Honestly, I think one more hit should break through it."
At a glance, I noticed that after two super-strong collisions, the once indestructible Sighing Wall had dimmed quite a lot, and even some transparent tiny holes flickered on its surface.
"The shock exceeding the threshold damaged the energy circuits of the feedback field, leading to insufficient power supply. After all, it’s an ancient relic. It hasn’t been serviced for hundreds of thousands of years—Monina, can Lin do it one more time? There’s no one here stronger than her."
The Dark Goddess was somewhat distressed as she supported Lin, who was in a childlike state, "Actually, with Lin’s strength, if she seriously used her skill, she could have broken the Sighing Wall in one go. But just now, due to the accidental crash, she lost half her thinking ability and now can’t use any skills... she’s just mindlessly ramming against it repeatedly..."
Hearing Monina’s worried words, old I couldn’t help feeling relieved: it seems even Lin, the ever-suffering one, is also cherished by someone.
Monina’s next words, however, were, "If she really becomes dumb from the collisions, then I’ll be the one responsible for cleaning up after her!"
At this point, Bingdisi could not stand it anymore, "You guys really are troublesome. It’s just a shield! Why not just give the little Dragon God Girl some protection before she crashes into it again? I refuse to believe you don’t even have a few decent pieces of protective gear!"
"Defensive power?" As soon as Bingdisi spoke, both Monina and Kenser immediately looked at one person: Yelsen!
"The stupid big brother has the strongest defense!" Monina enthusiastically slapped Yelsen’s chest plate, who then realized it was his time to shine, he craned his neck, making a far-sighted gesture while he fiddled with the Divine Weapon in his hand, "Speaking of the world’s most powerful armor, naturally it’s this emblem shield in my hand..."
This hot-blooded fool had just started speaking when Lin caught on. Although her intelligence had declined, she still retained some basic understanding.
So, we saw the Dragon God Girl happily clap her hands, walk up, and... pick up Yelsen in her arms above her head, and with a "boom boom boom," she ran off as furiously as she had done before when taking a run-up. Lin, carrying Yelsen, disappeared into the other side of the city cloaked in thick smoke.
Monina was completely dumbstruck, and Bingdisi mumbled to herself, "I think we could’ve just let Yelsen hand his shield to the little Dragon God Girl."
Meanwhile, the earth trembled once again with the sound of a million heavy motorcycles speeding up, and this time it was mixed with Yelsen’s high-pitched screams, "Why didn’t you say so sooner!! WAAAAAGH—boom!"
The crisp sound of shattering finally rose from the barrier. The Lin + Yelsen combination broke through the ultimate shield at supersonic speed, surrounded by billowing smoke as they vanished into the streets of the Inner City, while we watched, speechless, as the Sighing Wall turned into glittering fragments in the sky a second later.
