Chapter 1466: Chapter 252 Human Sentiments

"Your Majesty, I know you’re deeply concerned about Pannis, and I understand the importance of this matter to him. Indeed, if it is true that Lady Nellie has not yet fallen under Danacus’s control and that Pannis killed her unwittingly, the cruel reality will be hard for him to accept when he learns the truth," Catherine said with a composure that fully displayed her calm and steadiness. She took Flare’s hand and continued, "But the situation has escalated to this point, and panic won’t solve anything. Only by calming down and clarifying everything can we begin to seek a solution. You, with your life’s experience, should understand this principle well. So please, try to remain calm and don’t be so agitated."

"Ah, you’re right, but I just can’t calm down," Flare admitted, though it was clear she was striving to adjust her mentality and maintain her composure. After all, the Queen was the ruler of eight hundred thousand Elves and had more than four hundred years of life experience. Though her feelings for Kyle had thrown her into emotional turmoil, with Catherine’s reminder, she still managed to control her emotions. If she couldn’t even do that, she wouldn’t have been able to maintain her throne for over a hundred years. Flare closed her eyes and took several deep breaths to steady her somewhat rapid breathing before she sighed and responded, "Alright, I misspoke earlier. I have calmed down, thank you."

"Then, Your Majesty, could you please elaborate on how you came to know this information?" Catherine asked softly. "I understand you’re eager to inform Pannis as quickly as possible, but as you’ve realized, the situation isn’t that simple."

"Yes, notifying him now would only complicate matters further," Flare acknowledged, her pointed ears drooping helplessly as she spoke, "because I can’t be one hundred percent certain that this message is absolutely accurate."

"Indeed, that’s precisely the issue," Catherine agreed with a sigh. "If the message were absolutely accurate, we must inform Pannis immediately. However, if by chance the message is incorrect and we’ve notified Pannis, the consequences of that misinformation could be unimaginable. Therefore, I hope you can explain the process of acquiring the information in detail so that everyone can assess whether its reliability justifies immediate conveyance to Pannis. Also, esteemed leaders, since you’ve guessed as much from the ceremony and no objections have been raised, it suggests that you too are capable of rationally accepting reality. Therefore, there’s no longer any point in concealing the truth from everyone. Let’s all listen and help think of a solution, for solving the problem benefits us all." ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm

"I told you, it was something I learned inadvertently while praying," Flare said, with a frown. "You should know that the object you hold would not have worked without the Deity’s consent. So before I handed it to Kyle, I had already sought her approval. I didn’t hold out much hope because you are not Elves and do not worship the Deity. You’re not within her protective reach, and with the object being so important and rare, it wouldn’t be unusual for Kyle to be refused permission to use it. So I had little expectation but thought it to try, just on the off chance. To my surprise, the Deity agreed without hesitation as soon as I made the request. That truly shocked me at the time."

"Why would Yuktiraxil have agreed?" Lina asked, puzzled. "The importance of that object within your church should have surpassed all Sacred Items and Divine Artifacts. It could even be considered Yuktiraxil’s own... Well, why would she grant it to a non-believer so readily?"

"You don’t need to sneak glances at me," Sophia said in a raspy voice, with obvious displeasure. "Seeing the looks on your faces, I can guess what you’re talking about. Regarding that seed, had I still been alive, I would have been incredibly impulsive about it. But now I am dead, and although I remain grateful to the Forest Deity for creating me, as an Undead, I profess allegiance to Lady Nellie. So there’s no need for you to be so tense around me, just treat me like a normal Undead. Besides, since the matter has been approved by the Deity, I have no objections. I’m not one of those stubborn members of the Elder Council."

"I’m very sorry," Lina said to the Dried Corpse Elf, offering a sheepish smile. "Thank you for your understanding."

"Thank you," Flare also nodded in gratitude to her former fellow Elf before turning back to continue, "I was so overwhelmed with joy at the time and anxious to intercept Kyle midway that I didn’t think it through. I secretly took out the seed and set off in a hurry. I traveled at full speed to reach the edge of the Sighing Desert ahead of Kyle and successfully gave him the seed. It was only after passing the seed to him that I began to ponder why the Deity had so readily agreed. However, after reflecting on it many times, I couldn’t find an answer. After all, we mortals cannot presume to speculate on a Deity’s thoughts."

"So you just directly inquired with Lady Yuktiraxil?" Lina said, "That seems to be the simplest method."

"Yes, as soon as I entered the deep forest, I started praying to the goddess, voicing the doubts in my heart," Flare said with a frown, "The goddess did not hide anything from me; she directly told me her purpose."

"That direct?" Lina thought of the times she would receive responses from Lady Denia, and how the merciful goddess always used some ambiguous phrases that seemed to express her will in a veiled manner, which could only be understood through guessing. This showed that the personalities of the deities could greatly affect their way of doing things.

"Very direct," Flare nodded, "The goddess said only one thing: by doing this, she could make the new God of Death owe her a favor."

"Owe a favor?" The girls were stunned, exchanging glances before Catherine asked in a low voice, "Did the Forest Goddess really say that?"

"What? Is there a problem?" Flare, noticing the girls’ strange expressions, asked in confusion, "Why do all of you have that look on your faces?"

"Uh, because we didn’t tell you that when Pannis handed me the seed bag, he also said something very odd," Catherine explained with a puzzled expression, "He said he didn’t take it with him because one reason was not wanting to owe a favor, not meaning he didn’t want to owe you a favor, but rather not wanting Lady Nellie to owe the Forest Goddess a favor."

This time, even Flare’s expression turned as curious as the other girls’, her eyes widening, and she even lapsed into Elvish in her astonishment, "Could it be that he had already guessed?"

"As for such things, who knows," Catherine sighed, using Pannis’s most common phrase as an exclamation.
