65: Chapter 53 Task Completed_1

65 -53 Task Completed_1

(I’m planning to change the book title, but I really don’t know what to change it to.

Some that I’ve thought of – Yarra Adventure Log, Yarra World Tour, Road to Redemption, Adventurer’s Log – I don’t think are very good.

If anyone has good opinions or suggestions, please leave a message in the book review area to tell me, I will greatly appreciate it.

PS – those passing by, I request your favorites and recommendations, your support is my greatest motivation.)

*Hiss*,” came the explosive sound as a great amount of gas was rapidly expelled, the heavy, solid doors of the Core Freezing Room slowly opened inward.

An intense, bone-chilling cold surged forth as the doors opened, frosting the eyebrows and tips of the unprepared group of six waiting at the door.

“Ahem, ahem, ahem.” The physically weakest Vivian suddenly inhaled a cold breath, and a violent cough erupted, prompting her to quickly cover her mouth: “Darn it, it’s so cold here.

It’s so much worse than the one in the research area outside.”

“A freezing chamber that’s been closed for hundreds of years can’t just be compared with one that people frequently enter and exit.” Even though Lina was kept warm by a Fire-attribute crystal, she was still rubbing her crossed arms as she hugged herself against the cold.

Each time she spoke, a puff of white mist came from her mouth: “If I knew it was this cold, I would let Big Sis open the door and warm up while waiting for you to recover in those two hours.

That way, it wouldn’t have been such a struggle when we came in.”

Catherine lightly knocked on Lina’s head, retorting, “If I had opened this door, wouldn’t I be frozen first?

Wouldn’t that be hard for me?”

Pannis ignored the girls’ banter, standing with his hands behind his back while looking at the rows of cubic metal boxes, one meter on each side, in the freezing chamber.

He casually walked up to one and kicked it lightly before pursing his lips: “Its thickness is atypical.

Judging from the color, the strongest Magicsteel was mixed in during the casting process.

It’s tough to destroy these types of boxes directly with magic, even more difficult with physical weapons.

They are indeed guarded quite strictly.

However, there are so many storage boxes, do you guys know which one it is?”

“Let’s just open them all and see,” Vivian matter-of-factly proposed.

“There might be other good stuff.”

“These are mana locks.

Even if you know how they work, dissolving one would take at least half an hour.

There are so many in here.

If we were to unlock all of them, it would take us several days.” Pannis asked somewhat puzzled: “Are you sure you want to open all of them?”

“Hehe, watch this,” Vivian chuckled as she walked up to a metal box closest to the wall.

Drawing a deep breath, she bent over to the box and yelled at it: “Kada…to…loh…hol.” As soon as the shout dropped, the tightly closed box popped open on its own.

“What is this?” The young girls all had befuddled expressions, dumbfounded as they watched this odd scene unfold.

Only Pannis showed the look of surprise on his face and muttered, shaking his head: “It’s actually Drakish.

The Naren Kingdom really doesn’t fear spending money.”

“Huh?

Pannis, you know this?” Vivian froze and asked incredulously: “The notes I saw from the Director before had something I don’t understand.

Many strange pronunciations were noted down in magic letters, all of which had numbers written before them.

I found it fun and memorized them.

Then when I came in here, I found that the number of boxes here exactly matched the number of codes in the record, and each box had a number written on it.

I tried it out on a whim and it actually worked.

Did you say this was Drakish earlier?”

“Yeah, it’s Drakish.

The Drakes, as one of the Guardian races, have this magical language that inherently carries natural rule power and mana.

A large amount of mana has to be consumed for each word spoken by non-Drakes.

And Drakish is rarely passed outside, not many people in the world know it.

These boxes, are likely the product of goblins, they are the race that understands Drakish the best, after all, they had deep exchanges with the Drakes during their peak era in the Second Cycle.

Although most of the goblin’s technology is lost now, a lot of this knowledge has been handed down.

Therefore, only they could make a safe that can be opened with Drakish.”

“Huh?” The girls all looked at Pannis strangely.

Vivian asked, “You just said that very few people in the world know Drakish, how do you know it then?

And how can you recognize it’s Drakish just by hearing a few words?”

“Hehe, don’t tell us, during one of your adventures, you happened to meet a Drake and that’s how you learned it,” Catherine teased, a mischievous smile playing at the corner of her mouth: “Just like you learned some of the Life Deity System’s healing techniques from an Elf?”

“Uhm,” Pannis scratched his head: “Of course not, I just…

happened to meet a goblin on an adventure, that’s all, I learned from him.”

Catherine rolled her eyes, too lazy to probe further: “Mysterious as always.

Well, Vivian, go ahead and open them all.

Oh, and does this consume mana?

Can you handle it?”

“No problem.” Vivian patted her flat chest, proudly saying, “I guess they used the words with the least mana consumption here.

With my mana storage, it’s absolutely no problem.”

“Da…ka…kai”, “La…fa…kada”, “Xiu…hol…xi”.

Vivian held the notes in her hand, referring to the numbers on the notes one by one, shouting at each box.

After each shout, one box would spring open automatically.

The others followed behind Vivian, each time a box was opened, they would lean over and take a look inside.

The first few boxes were disappointingly empty until the seventh box, where they saw a small vial of potion at the bottom.

“Huh, there’s something!” Lina cheered and went to peek over the edge of the box to grab it; however Pannis reached out and pulled her back, prompting the surprised girl to ask, “What’s wrong?

Is there a problem?”

Pannis spoke very seriously: “Never, absolutely never let your skin, especially your face, touch the box.”

“Why so?” Lina asked, puzzled.

“Is there something wrong with the box?”

“Phew, thank goodness you reminded me, Pannis.

Otherwise, I would have forgotten,” Catherine sighed with relief, speaking to Lina.

“Pannis is right.

You must never let your skin touch the box.

When I was a child, I lived in the northern part of the Falar Empire for a few years, where in winter, the outside of homes would be covered with ice and snow, and nights would become even colder.

If you leave a metal object out and then pick it up, your skin would stick to the metal.

Unless the metal is warmed, it can’t be separated.

If you force it apart, a large piece of skin and flesh will be torn off.

Imagine if that happened to your face.”

“I’m not picking it up,” Lina stepped back a few feet, covering her face.

“You guys do it.”

“Actually, it is fine as long as you avoid direct contact with the cold metal.” Catherine touched the metal box with her gloved hand, bent over, retrieved a greenish potion from the bottom of the box, and shook her head disappointingly.

“Nope, put it aside for now.

We’ll let Vivian study it later. frёeωebɳovel.com

Things stored here should all be quite important.”

The tedious job of opening boxes continued until they reached the ninetieth box, when Vivian suddenly cheered, “Catherine, I think this is it.

Can you grab it?

I can’t reach.” At her words, including Nicole and Rachel, all five people rushed over, lining up to look at the long-awaited potion.

At the base of the box, a crystal-clear triangular vial was set on a wooden rack.

A cotton-wrapped crystal stopper tightly sealed the mouth of the vial, leaving no gaps.

The potion in the crystal vial was red, a bright color like blood, but also mixed with a spiral of green-colored liquid that extended from the bottom all the way to the surface.

No matter how you shook the vial, the red and green liquids would not mix.

After the liquids inside the vial had calmed down, the two colors would again return to their distinct states.

“This should be it,” Catherine nodded, the joy in her heart hard to hide.

“It’s exactly as the client described.”

“Let me check.” Without opening the stopper, Vivian took out several strange instruments from her bag, and radiated them sequentially onto the vial for a while.

Then, for some reason, she placed the vial on her face.

After a while, she nodded.

“It’s the one.

All the results from the tests are consistent.

And just as the client said, the red part is cold, and the green part is warm.

The two temperatures do not mix, even just taken out from a freezing room.

It can’t be wrong.”

“Pack it up, we can finally complete the mission,” Catherine sighed contently, and murmured, “A hundred thousand gold coins.

Finally, they are within our grasp.

Thinking about it, it feels like a dream.”

“I want to buy a big bed,” Lina was also in a dreamy state, fantasizing together with Catherine.

“And a large bookshelf to fill the entire room and invite all my friends to live in it.

By the way, when we return, I want to move to a bigger bedroom, the bigger, the better.”

“No problem, it’s vacant anyway,” Catherine didn’t care at all.

“You pick for yourself.”

Vivian sighed and said while placing the potion in the specially designed cold storage box that she had brought.

“You two really lack ambition.

Only spending money to pursue knowledge is the right way to spend.

Yes, my metal analyzer needs to be replaced, and also the mithril coating tool.

Alright, it’s packed.” She patted her bag contently.

She put her backpack on her shoulder but felt uncomfortable all over.

She finally took the cold storage box out of her bag, hesitated for a moment, and then handed it to Pannis.

“You carry this.”

“Huh?” Pannis was confused carrying the cold storage box.

“Why do I have to carry it?”

“Of course.” Vivian confidently said, “If we encounter battle on the way back, and it is accidentally shattered while kept with us, what should we do?

We have agreed that you won’t participate in fighting.

So it is safest with you.

Just carry it.

Be careful, and avoid breaking it.

It’s worth a hundred thousand gold coins, if it breaks, Catherine might cry her eyes out.”

Pannis took a cold breath, carefully holding the box.

“This, it seems quite delicate, right?”

“It’s okay.” Vivian shook her head.

“It has a Shock-absorbing Array inside.

It won’t break unless you make any excessive movements, don’t worry about it.

After all, I’ve used it many times and it has never broken.

Just relax.”

“Alright.” Pannis gently put the cold storage box at the bottom of his backpack and fixed the box in place with other items around it.

He shook his backpack a few times to make sure the box was secure, then put it back on again.

“Now I understand the uncomfortable feeling you were talking about.

Now that we have found the item, are you still going to continue opening boxes?”

“Of course.” Vivian didn’t hesitate at all.

“Taking all the finished items here, and cross-checking them with the previous records when I get back, we’ll always find something.”

Pannis knew that they still had plenty of time and wasn’t in a hurry to leave, so he just nodded and said, “Then you carry on, I’ll go check next door.”
