Chapter 400: Chapter 400

’Tsk! I should have gone with Lady Marianne... Her demeanour was already dim and yet she had to go through more terrible things... it makes sense now... so there is something haunting her as the Ninth.’

Believing the matters her father had confided partly truthful in sights to convince Jasmine to join the schemed excuse as to get the chosen child to remain safely at the palace, the Princess contemplated, as she went inside her vast and luxurious chambers.

"....."

Pausing as more was thought about the situation she found herself involved in.

"... Why... that thing went directly to talk to me... and that... drowsy sensation I felt for a while..."

—... With her... fly... disappear... —

"Tsk... Who’s the fly? What an aggravating creature."

With little to nothing in her knowledge to think more of the situation, Jasmine’s wish to visit her friend was restrained by thoughtful consideration. Solely getting herself to find calmness in the comfort of her chambers where the books, small nature decorating it and the silence she enjoyed inhabited. And so, the Princess decided to rest even if unsettled...

Time to think of the terror was only taken for a moment... where the outcome of the attack was contemplated and doubts emerged about the occurrences she paid attention to.

’... It was planned certainly... sigh... it is a pity to be suspicious of lady Theressa solely for she arrived late...’ — Jasmine thought, aware that it was too little proof to be suspicious of the young Sylfinnier. Yet not enough for the doubt to subside. — ’... Yet she went out right after Lady Marianne... and came back too composed for having seen the creature too.’

"... Such an... Upsetting suspicion..."

Night aided her worry to halt as slumber was to visit a tired psyche. Nevertheless... the dreams she recovered at Marianne’s appearance were unmistakably difficult to escape and to understand tonight... Cloudy and frightening... for sadness and despair were in the voices of those she witnessed through the haze of memories. And yet...

"Gasp!.... What... what did I dream...?"

... Even as she saw it too clearly, this time the descendant of Calla was to quickly forget it.

*******

After I was attacked at the hunting competition, things became extremely busy... for everyone except me, that is.

On the second day of the hunt, apparently, the thing that attacked me had a friend that paid a visit to those at the tens. Sir Vitor’s disappearance was explained with the second creature’s appearance since... as those who witnessed told... the thing puked him along with the other two guards that were supposed to guard me.

Not only that but later on, I also learned the shadow guards that were supposed to keep an eye on me got hypnotized somehow.

Everything made sense to me as the Duke told me the details, although he was a little reluctant to do so since he didn’t want to worry us with how things turned out, but even then, he wasn’t able to resist our charming plea.

"Vitor said he was right behind you when suddenly his sight went black... He had never been against a sly roustabout, so it’s no wonder he didn’t get to sense it earlier." — The mister had said, frowning as he did, probably still frustrated these many things happened. — "However, his aura was left within it and it killed it slowly, the men should be getting its corpse as we speak."

’... sorry... but yuck. Poor Sir Vitor...’

"No one was harmed at its relentless run so do not worry... yet perhaps after you are feeling better you should visit the Princess... I was told the roustabout got very near her person, although thankfully no harm was done."

’!? Oh my god! I hope she’s alright... that thing was really... creepy...’ — Feeling a shiver traverse my whole body to the recall of its eyes I sympathised with the princess’ experience.

"... Your hidden guards are also well... the artefact they used paralyzed them, yet they did manage to send an alert to the knights after some effort... Nonetheless, the Crown Prince’s aura drowned it as we rushed there... even so, the outcome was the same."

’ah... I see...’ — Shy, I lowered my head to the crown prince’s mention... Since after the doctors left my room, Zeleskiaz also was dismissed by the duke, which was understandable given the situation.

At the time, he simply informed nothing wrong was with my body, on the contrary, it seemed like its vitality had been regained quite a lot after the attack. And I ought to admit I can feel it.

It makes and doesn’t make sense... But I don’t want to even think of the reasons behind it because everything is confusingly normal to me right now.

As the duke had stayed with us, he sat right next to our bed, like he is used to whenever we’re sick.

I had decided to only focus on him. The fact he broke into crying little after he came to our bedroom made myself force our attention to stay on him... and not let it drift away at the wandering recall of the things the prince and I had been doing before his arrival... and so, I did my best not to feel it as a pity... that kinky had to go back at the duke’s order.

"... It’s a relief to my soul that you are alright my sweet little bird..." — He lulled to us after they had left. Stroking our cheek as we laid down, seemingly ready to sleep with him guarding our sleep. — "There are questions I will have to ask you later... yet do not worry about it and rest sweet child..."

’Thank you, mister... only now I feel my head is making sense of reality... I appreciate your patience...’

"... were you scared dear?... You were on your own... must have been truly difficult and terrifying..."

’... yes but... like this, hehehe~ I called for you mister.’ — Showing the trick that saved us, I made ourselves smile at him. Much more tranquil as my mind was getting comfortable the more peace I was granted.
